How to get from Koh Lipe to Phuket airport

I wrote in detail about the transfer Ko Lipe - Phuket by sea:.

How to get to Ko Lipe from Moscow

Flights Moscow - Bangkok (BKK) are bought at.
Depending on the airline and the time of arrival in Bangkok, tickets are purchased for the morning flight (day to day or the next day).

For example, I fly Qatar Airways from Doha to Bangkok at 17:45.
From BKK airport I take a free transfer to a pre-booked hotel where I stay constantly: Summit Windmill Golf Residence.

In the morning of the next day on a free transfer I return from the hotel to the airport (BKK) and fly to Hat Yai on the first ThaiSmile flight WE269 at 7:00

At 8:25 am I get my luggage in Hat Yai and take a private taxi to the pier in Pakbara.

After 1:30, I go out to the lounge of the Akira Lipe Resort, drink coffee and wait for the call to board the speedboat. Nearby is the lounge of the Sita Beach Resort (if you have this hotel booked).

All unnecessary things (for example, warm clothes) - I leave for storage in Akira's lounge.

At 13:00 I leave the speedboat on the beach in front of Akira and while they carry my things, I sign the prepared form, drink iced tea and get the keys to my bungalow.

In this chain, it is important to fly from Bangkok in the morning before 11:00, or you will have to spend the night in Pakbar.

Pakbara starting point on Koh Lipe

Previously Pakbara was a terrible hole (20 years ago).
When I first got to Pakbara, there was not a single hotel in the fishermen's village, except for 4 rooms on the second floor of a grocery store with one toilet in the corridor for all.

And the ship that brought tourists from Pakbara to Ko Lipe was made of wood and resembled a Spanish galleon of the 15th century (it broke twice per trip)

Now you won't recognize Pakbar: a 7/11 store, ATMs, seafood restaurants (albeit Muslim with a menu in Thai).
The port at Pakbar is a stone and glass building.

It’s a pity I don’t have photographs of the port of Pakbara-2002 at hand: there are sandbags on the bank of the river, on which two boards are thrown - this is the pier.

How to get to Pakbara

The closest airports to Pakbara are:
Trang(Trang) TST
Hat Yai(Hat Yai) HDY
Trang Airport is slightly closer to Pakbare than Hat Yai Airport.

For example: flew from Bangkok to Trang ()
Go out to the arrivals hall and go to the transfer desk (left side of the hall).

A taxi to Pakbara costs 2,200 baht and an hour and a half on the way. The price is fixed and is written on the billboard in front of the counter.
If you have fast ferry tickets Tigerline, then by taxi you need to go to the pier Hat yao- it's 50 minutes from Trang airport)

You can cooperate with someone and share the cost of a taxi.
You can go out onto the main road and try to find a ride or negotiate a taxi directly.

But the fact remains: from Trang airport to Pakbara taxi 2200 baht.
Taxi ride from Trang Airport to Pakbara Pier: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Speedboat Schedule from Pakbara to Koh Lipe

The schedule changes depending on the season, the weather and the number of tourists going to Koh Lipe.
It is better to check the information on the spot.
As of August 2016, the schedule looked like this:

Something can be viewed at http://kohlipethailand.com/koh-lipe/transport/boat-timetable/
Speedboats depart from Pakbara at 9:30 am, 11:30 am and 3:30 pm during low season.

The best option would be to take the first speedboat at 9:30 so that you will be on Lipa at 11-11: 30. But for this you need to come to Pakbara the day before departure to Ko Lipe.

See which flights arrive at Trang or Hat Yai on
Add 20 minutes to collect your luggage and find a taxi.
Add 1.30 for the road to Pakbara and 10 minutes to buy tickets and figure out which speedboat you are on.

In the southernmost point of Thailand, there is a picturesque island with beautiful beaches called Ko Lipe. In recent years, it has been actively developing, and from a wild island, it is gradually turning into a popular tourist resort. There are more and more new hotels, cafes and entertainment. However, there are still many places with pristine nature and secluded beaches.

Lipa Island is located just 20 km from Malaysia. It is significantly removed from popular resorts: to Phuket - 250 km, to Krabi - 220 km, and to the mainland - 70 km. The islands closest to Ko Lipe are Ko Adang and Ko Tarutao.

Lipé Island is included in the Tarutao National Park, which includes more than 50 islands. Many of them are uninhabited and pristine. You can visit such islands along with an excursion, which can be bought on Ko Lipe at any travel agency.

The island of Lipa itself is inhabited, it is inhabited mainly by sea gypsies who moved here from Malaysia. The infrastructure on the island is gradually developing: there are quite a few cafes, restaurants, shops and hotels. If you wish, you can stay overnight or spend your entire vacation on the island. There are all the necessary conditions for this.

Not so long ago, there were no banks and ATMs on the island, but now the situation has changed. It will not be difficult for you to change or withdraw money from the card. However, the course is completely unprofitable. Therefore, it is better to change money in Bangkok or another popular resort in Thailand.

As for the prices, on the island of Lipa they do not differ much from the mainland ones. You can dine at the restaurant at quite affordable prices.

When is the best time to go to the island?

As in the whole territory of Thailand, the island of Lipa is always warm and the air temperature does not drop below 20 degrees Celsius. However, tropical climates are characterized by dry and wet seasons. The most favorable weather for a holiday on the island is during the dry season, which lasts from December to March. Since April, the weather begins to deteriorate, the winds intensify, waves rise on the sea and it is no longer so pleasant to relax in nature.

Hotels

The island has a fairly large selection of hotels and bungalows for every taste and budget. The cheapest accommodation will cost you an average of 500 baht per day. If you want to rent a comfortable room with all the amenities, you will have to pay at least 1,500 baht per day. Prices may vary depending on the season; in winter they are the highest.

If you want to rent inexpensive accommodation, then it is better to stay in the center of the island near the main street. It may be noisy here and not such a beautiful view from the window, but housing prices are the most affordable. For more budget options, I can recommend Harmony Bed & Bakery, A Plus Delux Hotel, Mountain Resort Koh Lipe, and Ricci House Resort.

If my budget allows, I recommend staying in one of the best hotels on the island: Idyllic Concept Resort, Bundhaya Villas or Mali Resort Sunrise Beach.

If you are going to visit the island of Lipa during the dry season, then book the hotel 1-2 months in advance, because the good options at this time, almost everyone is busy.

Beaches

Koh Lip has four main beaches. These include Pattaya, Sunrise, Sunset, and Karma Beach. There are two more very small beaches: Sanom and Bila Beach. Moving from one beach to another is quite convenient, as there are paths between them.

Pattaya Beach Is the most important beach on the island. Here is the port where all boats sail. However, this beach is also suitable for swimming. Next to Pattaya beach is the main street of the island - Walking Street. It is here that there are many inexpensive hotels, as well as cafes, restaurants and shops.

SunsetBeach Is the most secluded beach on the island. Here you can admire beautiful sunsets, take a break from the hustle and bustle and be alone.

KarmaBeach located north of Sunset Beach. There is white sand, clean and calm sea. This beach is preferred by families with children.

SunriseBeach Is the longest beach on Koh Lipe. The perfect place to meet the sunrise. The sand is white, the sea is clean. This is where the best snorkeling and diving on the island is.

What to do on the island?

People go to the island of Lipa to enjoy natural views, beach holidays and completely relax away from the hustle and bustle. The main attractions on the island are excursions to neighboring uninhabited islands, relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, diving and sea fishing. There are many diving centers on Koh Lipe.

In the evening, there is a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and bars, many of which are located by the sea. Closer to midnight, all establishments close, and the active life calms down until the morning.

Transport

There is no public transport on Ko Lipe, as its territory is small, the island can be bypassed on foot in a few hours. But if you wish, you can always use the services of a taxi, which is a motorbike with a sidecar. It is also possible to rent a bicycle or speedboat that will take you to neighboring islands.

Thanks to the video, you will see how Ko Lipe looks like, how beautiful its beaches and picturesque nature are.

To get to Ko Lipe from other popular resorts, the easiest way is to take an air flight to the city of Hat Yai. Here is the nearest airport in Thailand from the island of Lipa. A shuttle service can be booked from Hat Yai Airport to Koh Lipe. The road to Pakbara pier takes about 2 hours, then the same amount will have to sail by sea to the island of Lipa.

Only by sea transport can you get to Ko Lipe from the islands of Phuket, Phi Phi Don, Lanta and the province of Krabi. Such flights are carried out by ship. The average cost of the trip is about 1,500 baht.

If you want to diversify your vacation in Thailand, to spend time away from the hustle and bustle, then go to the island of Lipa. Here you will get a lot of new positive emotions, beautiful photos and unforgettable impressions.

Ko Lipe on Thailand map

Very often the name of the island is interpreted in different ways: Koh Lipe, Koh Lipe, Koh Lipe and Koh Lipei. At the beginning of the new century, since the 2000s, with the development of low-cost air travel and sea traffic, the island of Ko Lipe has turned into a truly popular tourist center, and is also one of the protected islands where tourists who have visited Thailand can freely rest.

Take care of this in advance, having previously exchanged currency, for example, in Bangkok.

Finding a restaurant where the cost of food will be very affordable, below 100 baht, is not difficult, most are located directly on the beaches. At this time, the weather on the islands is rather gloomy, it often rains. The second season is dry with little rainfall. It is this season that most tourists choose for a trip to Thailand. At this time, the sea is calm enough, the weather is not too hot, and beautiful photos are obtained against the background of blooming nature.

The resort island consists of four major beaches: Pattaya, Karma, Sunset and Sunrise. All beaches are connected by small paths through which you can quickly get from one place to another. Small and secluded beaches of the island: Sanom Beach and Bila Beach.

The main beach is Pattaya Beach. Located in the southern part of the island, it is the most popular among tourists, it resembles a small horseshoe in shape. The coast along its entire length is covered with fine white sand, the sea is calm.

Walking Street in Koh Lipe.

Many establishments have the Internet, and you can also pay by card.

Sunrise Beach, as its name implies, is best suited to meet the sunrises; you can often find similar photos on the Internet. In addition, the clear water makes it almost ideal for snorkelling and diving.

Sunset Beach is a cozy bay where you can take great photos of sunsets and have a great rest with your loved one. The coast is quiet and peaceful, and quite interesting exotic restaurants are located on its territory.

The last of the major beaches on the island is Karma. In fact, this is just a continuation of the previous beach, which stretches far to the north. Calm sea - you can swim with children, quiet cozy atmosphere and the best panorama on the whole island, against which you can take great photos.

The infrastructure of the beaches is constantly being improved, good hotels have been built, the Internet has been installed. You can buy fresh food right on the beaches. However, at the same time, you will not find a wide variety of products. Try different, which the country is so famous for.

Ko Lipe is one of the best holiday destinations that Thailand has brought to the world. Good conditions for relaxation and beautiful landscapes are well suited for taking the best photos to commemorate a holiday in paradise.

Latest update: Sep 17, 2018

The Adang archipelago, located in the southern part of the Andaman Sea, not far from the mainland of Thailand and Malaysia, is often called the "Thai Maldives", primarily for its white sand. Ko Lipe (Thailand) is the only inhabited island in this archipelago. Tourists come here to enjoy the serenity and tranquility. In addition, the island attracts divers, because many marine inhabitants live near the coast - almost a quarter of all those living in nature. The island is the southernmost point of Thailand and many tourists are frightened by the question of how to get to Ko Lipe. However, the number of travelers is increasing every year. We have prepared detailed information for those planning a trip to the island.

general information

Koh Lipe Island in Thailand is located in the southern part of the Andaman Sea and belongs to the Satun province. This is the southernmost point of the country. On a sunny, cloudless day from the island you can see the coast of Malaysia, namely the Langkawi archipelago, located at a distance of 30 km.

The distance to Phuket is 250 km, to Krabi is about 220 km, and to the mainland of Thailand is 70 km.

The length of the island is only 3 km, it is easy to get around on foot, the indigenous people on Ko Lipe are about 800 people. The main source of income is fishing and tourism.

Interesting fact! The indigenous population belongs to the sea gypsies - immigrants from Malaysia, who arrived on the island about a century ago.

On Ko Lipe, there is the Tarutao theme marine park, which was awarded the status of a national, at the end of the 20th century it was named the second largest in Thailand.

Tourist infrastructure and features of recreation

Every year, the number of tourists on the island of Ko Lipe in Thailand is increasing, despite the fact that you can only get here by water. The infrastructure is accordingly developing rapidly - the resort is flourishing and attracting more and more tourists. The first and main reason why tourists come here is the beaches, where you can enjoy a relaxing holiday or make an exciting dive, snorkeling.

Interesting fact! Not far from Ko Lipe there are several uninhabited islets, where they go on a guided tour or stay in a tent for several days.

Walking Street

The island of Ko Lipe in Thailand boasts a walking street - Walking Street, where there are souvenir shops, a pharmacy, travel agencies, cafes and an exchange office. Prices on the main street of the island are quite high, and the exchange rate is unprofitable, so it is better to stock up on everything you need on the mainland. The local attraction begins at Pattaya Beach and stretches to Sunrise Beach. The signs indicate that the street is open from 6-00 to midnight, however Walking Street does not close, many cafes, restaurants and bars open in the afternoon. Of course, most of the establishments are empty and closed by midnight, but still, you can find several bars that invite tourists.

Relatively recently, there were no bank branches and banks on the island, but today it will not be difficult to withdraw money. It should be noted that you will have to pay a commission for withdrawing money, and the rate is unprofitable. Also, in some hotels you can pay for the room and services with a plastic card, but a commission is charged for this. In exchange offices, you can exchange dollars and the currency of Malaysia - ringgitі.

There is Wi-Fi on Koh Lipe in Thailand, Internet access points are available in hotels and Internet cafes.

Most of the cafes and bars are located on the coastline, the maximum distance to the sea is 200 meters. There are no discos and other entertainment establishments, as well as attractions, on the island.

Interesting fact! The maximum distance between the beaches on the island is 1 km, so during your vacation you can easily visit all of them. The walk from one to the other will take about a quarter of an hour. If you don't like walking, rent a bike.

What is worth getting to Koh Lipe

  1. Seascapes. Already on the way to the island, by ferry, you can take beautiful photos.
  2. Vivid underwater world. There are many fish and sea inhabitants off the coast of the island; even tourists who cannot swim can take beautiful photographs. To do this, you do not need to wear special equipment, just a mask and a snorkel will be enough.
  3. Large selection of excursion tours. Most of them are on deserted islands, it is easy to stay here for a few days. There are tours with night swimming, which shimmers with the abundance of plankton, a trip with a barbecue in the background of the sea sunset. The cost of the excursion is about $ 17-19.
  4. White beaches and clear turquoise waters. Despite the fact that getting to the island is not so easy, and there are minor flaws on Ko Lipe in Thailand, the beaches attract with their beauty and allow you to ignore minor inconveniences. Here you can see fabulous sunrises and sunsets, numerous bars offer drinks, delicious treats right on the shore.
  5. Large selection of seafood dishes. Each restaurant and bar offers delicious seafood treats you've never heard of. Some dishes are prepared right in front of tourists.

Good to know! In addition to traditional restaurants on Walking Street, there are buffets, for a certain amount you can try at least the whole range of dishes. The cost is about $ 15-17.

It would be wrong to tell only about the positive aspects of the island in Thailand. If you decide to make a trip and get to Ko Lipe, be prepared for the following unpleasant surprises:

  • garbage, the island authorities simply do not have time to take it out;
  • boats are the real scourge of the island, they are moored on all beaches;
  • cats and dogs, some of them annoying;
  • grocery prices are higher than those found in shops on mainland Thailand.

Natural disadvantage - strong ebb and flow. At high tide, the coast is under water, there is simply no place for sunbathing. At low tide, the sea is so shallow that only children can swim in the sea.

Interesting fact! The only place on the island where there is no ebb and flow is the northern edge of Sunrise Beach.

There are no large shops on the island, there are small grocery stores. Be sure to try the pancakes - they are sold in street stalls.

Transport

Getting to the island is not so easy, but on Ko Lipe we decide the issue with the movement. There are no cars, few bikes, no public transport. Travelers are offered several ways to get around the island:

  • on foot;
  • motorbike taxi;
  • bike rental;
  • boats run regularly between the beaches.

Accommodation on the island

Every year, new hotels open on Ko Lipe in Thailand, but in the high tourist season it is not so easy to find free accommodation, so it is better to book a room a few months before the trip. Most of the hotels are built right on the beach, many are bungalow-like, but you can also find a traditional hotel.

During the tourist season, three-star hotel rates are around 3,000 baht, and bungalows can be rented for 1,000 baht. In the low season, prices are halved.

Features of hotels in Ko Lipe (Thailand):

Good to know! In addition to hotels, there is also a budget accommodation option on the island - tents in campsites. Most of them are located on Sunset Beach.

Island beaches

The first and main advantage of the island of Ko Lipe is the beaches, which are considered the best in Thailand. The coastline is best only on Similan. Several decades ago, the beaches of the island were deserted, but today the situation has changed - an infrastructure has appeared, but at the same time the exotic nature has been preserved. It is for the sake of the beaches that many tourists decide to get to Ko Lipe. We have compiled for you a selection of the best places to stay on the island.

Pattaya Beach is located in the south of Ko Lipe and is a long coastline with a length of almost 1.5 km. The coast is covered with white and very fine sand. In sunny weather, the water acquires a turquoise hue, but in the low season, strong waves appear due to the wind, which bring garbage to the shore. The descent into the water is gentle and smooth. Pattaya Beach has strong ebb and flow, and given the smooth entrance to the sea, it is difficult to find a place to swim.

There is a reef near the shore, so be sure to take your mask and snorkel with you. Unfortunately, there are many boats near the coast, but they are moored in an orderly manner, leaving areas for swimming. In the evening, a fire show is held on the shore. There are many hotels, cafes and restaurants on the first line.

Good to know! Pattaya Beach has a tourist office for visitors from Malaysia and mainland Thailand. In addition, representative offices of all shipping companies operate here.

The eastern coast of the island is Sunrise Beach, there is coarse and rather loose sand, and the descent into the sea is sharp. On the right side there are corals and many different fish.

The coastline stretches for 1.5 km, and the width varies with the ebb and flow. The widest part is in the northern part, and the narrowest is in the central part.

Good to know! There are no entertainment establishments or discos here, by 22-00 the coast is empty. To get to Walking Street, you need to walk past the local slums.

There are hotels, cafes and restaurants on the shore, you can buy an excursion to the mainland of Thailand, to the uninhabited islands of the archipelago and rent a kayak. There are also diving schools.

The only thing that darkens the rest on Sairaz Beach is the chaotically moored boats.

Interesting fact! It is believed that the beach has the most beautiful sunrises, which is why the place is named Sunrise Beach.

Western part of Koh Lipe island. This is a small, cozy beach with the most beautiful sunsets, which is why the beach was named Sunset Beach. The coast is covered with stones, in some places there are large stones in the water. The sand is coarse, non-uniform in color - white with interspersed gray and dark colors. The sea is quite shallow, there are fish in the water, but there are not so many of them. This place is calm, uncrowded, there are many boats in the central part of the beach.

Good to know! The sand is unpleasant to the touch due to shell fragments, so take your shoes with you.

There are cafes and sun loungers on the left side of the bank. There are hotels on the first line. Walking Street can be covered on foot in a quarter of an hour.

A sheltered, quiet beach, often referred to as secret. To get here, you need to go to the right along Pattaya Beach, get to the wooden bridge and cross it. Not all tourists come to this part of the island, so not everyone knows about the beach.

Good to know! The only bungalow has been built on the shore.

Cross the bridge with caution, it looks fragile, creaking boards do not give confidence. Huge boulders lie under the bridge, and turquoise water quietly splashes.

A serene, relaxing atmosphere reigns on the shore - someone is swimming in the calm sea, someone is drinking a cocktail on the coast, and someone is taking pictures of beautiful views.

The beach is perfect for swimming - the water is clean, the sea is calm, the descent is gentle. The seabed is soft, covered with sand, without stones.

Weather and climate, when is the best time to come

Ko Lipe is an island of two seasons:

  • dry - begins in late autumn and lasts until mid-spring;
  • rainy - begins in mid-spring and lasts until the second half of autumn.

Today, the island's communication with the mainland of Thailand remains open throughout the year. Earlier in the summer, during the low season, when the sea was stormy, Ko Lipe was closed, hotel staff went on vacation. In recent years, the climate on the island is so changeable that even in the low season there is good, sunny and clear weather.

As for the pricing policy in hotels, there are three seasons:

  • low - three summer months;
  • high season - two autumn months - October and November, two spring months - March and April;
  • peak - from December to February.

To get to the island, you need:

  • come to Trang or Hat Yai;
  • get to Pakbara pier;
  • purchase a ticket for the boat to Koh Lipe.

There are several ways to get to Trang or Hat Yai.
