Northeast of Phan Thiet, behind a scenic coastal road that climbs a hill to the ancient Cham Tower, lies a long sandy beach washed by the waters of Mui Ne Bay. As a quiet and endangered fishing village 15-20 years ago, today the beach and the town of Mui Ne have turned into a popular developing resort, where lovers of the warm sea, bright sun and fair wind flock. Moreover, there are so many Russian speakers among them that more and more often you can hear how the village is called in its own way - simply "Muynovka".

Choosing between the Red Sea (or rather the Egyptian Dahab) and the South China Sea (in the right corner of the ring is the village of Mui Ne!), Domestic kite and windsurfers are increasingly inclined in favor of the latter. Despite the fact that fishermen still live in the east of the beach, most of the population of Mui Ne is made up of tourists, whom, however, the locals dislike - the guests of the village are too aggressive to "seize" the territory. And all because the prices here are very democratic, seafood is plentiful, the country is allowed to enter the country without a visa, and the climate allows skiing almost all year round.

How to get to Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a small resort village on the shores of the South China Sea. There is no airport either in the town itself or in neighboring Phan Thiet, and you can get here from Russia only by air. The path runs through the two nearest airports - in Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang. Both of them accept flights from many large cities - Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk and others. Most of the two-stop routes are in Guangzhou, Wuhan, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Hanoi and Shanghai.

Chinese Eastern Airlines, Chinese Southern Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways and others fly from Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo to Vietnam. The only direct route Moscow - Ho Chi Minh City without transfers is from Aeroflot, flights are not daily. Prices start at 675 USD in both directions, travel time is about 10 hours. The cheapest flights are offered by Chinese and Arab carriers - from 600 USD, the journey takes from 15 hours to 1.5 days. Prices on the page are for September 2018.

You can get from the Northern capital by airplanes of Aeroflot, Es Seven, Turkish Airlines, Emirates and other companies. Ticket prices start at 1000 USD, and you will have to spend about 20 hours on the way. The fastest route from Emirates is 19 hours, the flight will cost 752 USD.

From the airport to the city

Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat air gate is a half hour drive from the bus station, from which long-distance slip buses depart. It is easier and faster to travel by taxi - about VND 200,000. Transportation is carried out by Futa Bus Line (official site in English). Flights to Mui Ne run 15 times a day, the journey will take another 4-6 hours, the fare costs 110,000-140,000 VND.

Transport

The territory of Mui Ne is quite small, but to move around it it is better to use public transport - walking from one end of the village to the other for a long time. One bus runs through the entire resort and further to Phan Thiet. Stops are located on the main and only street along which almost all hotels are located. Ticket price - 13000 VND.

For trips to attractions, it is better to take a taxi. Travel is inexpensive - a standard trip will cost 170,000 VND. Although many cars are equipped with meters, the price should be negotiated in advance. Taxis can be ordered by phone or stopped on the street. Most of the cars are new, with air conditioning and other amenities. Motorcycle taxis are widespread in Mui Ne. The fare is even lower - VND 10,000 per km during the day, VND 15,000-20,000 per km at night. It may not always be convenient, but faster than by car. For those who are afraid of high-speed driving, it is better to tell the driver about this - he will go slower.

Communication problems should not arise - in Mui Ne, many speak English and even Russian.

It is convenient to explore the resort and its surroundings by bike - the roads are good, the terrain is flat. You can take transport in many hotels or rental offices opposite them. Prices are moderate - about 60,000 VND per day.

Rent a Car

Only experienced drivers should rent a car in Mui Ne - the traffic situation is tense, many locals do not follow the rules, so driving here is quite dangerous. In a small resort village, there is nowhere to go, if long-distance travel is not planned, it is quite possible to get by with buses and taxis. However, those who have arrived for a long time and do not want to sit in one place should rent a car and go to the neighboring regions.

There are no serious traffic jams in Mui Ne itself; in larger cities, traffic jams are not uncommon. Many hotels and restaurants have free parking, parking near attractions is paid, but the price is purely symbolic - from 5,000 VND.

To rent a car, you will need a Vietnamese driving license. Tourists can also get it, but the paperwork will take about a week.

The choice of rental offices is greater in large cities, it is better to take a car in Ho Chi Minh City or Nha Trang. Only small local firms operate in Mui Ne. Prices per day for renting an economy class car range from 550,000 to 1,100,000 VND.

Connectivity and Wi-Fi

Mobile communication in Mui Ne is quite cheap, on arrival it is better to immediately get a SIM card from a Vietnamese operator - this will help you save a lot on calls home. There are three main companies in the country - Vinaphone, Viettel and Mobifone. Their tariffs hardly differ from each other; coverage in large cities and resort areas is consistently good for all three. A call to Russia will cost about 3600-5000 VND per minute, SMS and even less - 200 VND. There are no special travel plans, but they won't be required either. Packages are sold in many retail outlets, the balance is replenished in the same place. Prices range from VND 70,000 to VND 130,000.

There is no roaming within the country, the tariff plan can be bought in Ho Chi Minh City or Nha Trang, the same prices will apply in Mui Ne.

Wireless internet access points are available in most hotels and public catering establishments. But the quality of the connection sometimes leaves much to be desired. In this case, it is better to buy a traffic package from your local cellular operator. The prices are the same - from 70,000 VND for 600 MB to 200,000 VND for 3000 MB.

Mui Ne beaches

Mui Ne is one large beach along which the resort village stretches. The sea and the coast are not always equally clean and suitable for swimming. In the east, behind the cape, the waves are strongest, and it is one of the best places for kite and windsurfing. It is inconvenient to swim with children there - strong wind and very muddy water.

In the central part of the resort, where inexpensive middle-class hotels are concentrated, the strip of the coast set aside for the beach is rather narrow. Cleanliness is not particularly monitored, so it can get dirty, especially closer to the fishing village.

The coastline in the western part of the resort looks a little better, closer to Phan Thiet. The most expensive hotels are located here, the owners of which maintain cleanliness and order on their beaches. There are umbrellas and sun loungers everywhere, they belong to hotels, and only guests can use them, but they are free. Anyone can swim in clean and transparent water and stretch out on the sand. Due to the breakwaters, the sea is calmer here than in other parts of the resort. For families with children, this is the best place in Mui Ne. The entrance to the water is shallow along the entire coast, in order to get to the depth, you need to move far from the coast. But because of the waves, swimming with babies in the center of Mui Ne can be quite dangerous.

Kite and surfing

There is absolutely no diving or snorkeling in Mui Ne, but there is something more interesting: when it rains in Nha Trang or Hoi An, the waves just rise. But what waves are the most correct, strong, extended, on which you can not only learn, but also practice professional tricks. The best time for surfing is from August to December, for windsurfing from the end of October to the end of April. At the same time, the winds blow steadily from 11:00 to almost sunset, in some places the waves rise up to 4 m and more. The best place for surfing and kite surfing is in the western part of the resort. In the east, there are breakwaters everywhere.

The surrounding waters of Mui Ne do not contain any "pits" in the form of underwater rocks or shoals, so it is as safe as possible to ride here. However, at the peak of the season, kiters go out on the water, up to 300 muscular bodies at a time, so you need to look around in both directions. It is also worth paying special attention to ordinary bathers - these two-legged frolicking in the water create a separate problem for the keen surfer.

You can rent equipment in many shops and hotels, and ask an instructor there. His services will cost a lot: from 1 350 000 VND for the first lesson (the second and subsequent ones will cost less - from 1 050 000 VND). The average lesson lasts 2-3 hours. Sports equipment is rented at any school - from 140,000 VND per hour per surfboard.

Mui Ne Hotels

Regardless of the cost of living, all hotels in Mui Ne are located on the first coastline, a 5-minute walk from the sea. The difference in prices speaks not only of the range of options, but also of the quality of the beach at the hotel. Cheap options should be looked for closer to Cape Mui Ne, and expensive and fashionable ones - to Phan Thiet.

The most common type of accommodation in the village is resort hotels, most of them include breakfast, free parking and Wi-Fi. For those who do not want to swim in the sea, on the territory of many, even the cheapest, there are pools with sun loungers and umbrellas. The cost of rooms in hotels without stars and with 1 * starts from 300,000 VND, cheaper only in shared hostel rooms - from 50,000 VND per bed.

You can stay in a 2-3 * hotel in the central part of the resort for 400,000-3,000,000 VND. There are many higher class hotels in the west - 4-5 *. The range of prices is quite large - from 1,000,000 VND to 6,000,000 VND. There are also several guest houses and villas - from 200,000 VND for a double room to 5,000,000 VND for a cottage for 11 people.

What to bring

The main street is full of shops and souvenir shops. The prices are low, and the assortment is decent. Most often, edible presents are taken away from the Vietnamese resort - Mui Ne is famous for fish delicacies and seafood.

Ladies will love pearl products, as well as crocodile leather bags, shoes and belts. These are not the cheapest souvenirs, but the quality is beyond doubt. For clothes, it is better to visit neighboring Phan Thiet - in supermarkets, dresses and T-shirts made from natural fabrics are sold at affordable prices. For the famous Vietnamese silk, it is also worth going to larger cities, for example, Dalat. The choice in Mui Ne stores is very small. Traditional Vietnamese costumes can be bought at the market or custom tailored at a tailor shop. Other popular gifts from Mui Ne are coconut oil and snake venom ointments, which are great for bruises and sprains. Oils are available in any stores, and it is better to go to the pharmacy for cream.

Souvenir shops are located near the main attractions - on Mount Taku and near the Chap Tap Poshanu towers. They sell funny handicrafts and jewelry, magnets and key rings.

Mui Ne cuisine and restaurants

The choice of catering establishments in Mui Ne is quite large. Even those who do not like Vietnamese cuisine have something to profit from. The town is full of restaurants serving American, French, Italian and Indian cuisine. There are also Russian food shops, the menu of which will seem familiar and familiar at home. However, it is still worth trying local dishes - most of those who have visited Vietnam at least once leave rave reviews about them. In addition, there are few other places where you can taste grilled shark or crocodile soup for lunch.

Another plus of Vietnamese restaurants is the low prices. Dinner at a French or Italian establishment will cost more due to imported products. However, seafood and exotic dishes also cost a lot.

Most cafes and restaurants are located along the only street, Mui Ne. There are quite respectable establishments, standard cafes and unpretentious eateries. And also traditional Vietnamese "foshnitsa" - canteens, which serve the classic soup "pho". The latter can be very tasty and cheap, but it is somehow scary to enter them - compliance with sanitary and epidemiological standards and the quality of products are questionable.

Food prices at the resort are very affordable. A full dinner without frills in a middle class restaurant costs 300,000 VND. You can have breakfast or a snack in a cafe for VND 150,000-200,000. Those who decide to enjoy a barbecue with shark meat for dinner in an expensive restaurant should be prepared to shell out at least VND 1,000,000 for two.

Entertainment and attractions

The distinctive features of the Vietnamese resort are excellent beaches, a good climate and a good selection of restaurants. However, there are also several attractions here that are definitely worth seeing.

There are few interesting places near Mui Ne from a historical point of view. The main one is the Chamov Tap Poshanu towers. In the past, the majestic temple of the god Shiva, today is the ruins of an ancient shrine that has been in this state for the last 300 years. Despite this, the Vietnamese still bring gifts to the foot of the towers and pray for good luck or a good catch. If you're lucky, you can not only touch the antiquity, but also witness a religious event or a national festival. The temple complex stands on a hill with a beautiful view of the resort village and neighboring Phan Thiet.

On the way to the towers, you can stop by a bright oriental-style temple. It can be seen from the road, so it is impossible to miss.

60 km from Mui Ne there is another religious attraction - the statue of the reclining Buddha on Mount Taku. Now a cable car leads there, earlier pilgrims and a few tourists were forced to climb on foot. This is the largest monument in Vietnam, and Buddhists can be found here quite often.

In a sense, a unique attraction is the fishing village on the outskirts of Mui Ne. Once upon a time, the entire village lived with this craft, until tourism began to develop here. Now, to look at the life of fishermen, you need to go to a small village in the east of the resort. There is an observation deck from which you can watch a rather amusing sight - dozens of blue and greenish boats plow the sea surface not far from the coast. It looks especially unusual in the rays of the setting sun. If desired, locals can help arrange fishing trips and prepare freshly caught grilled fish.

Among the natural beauties in the vicinity of Mui Ne, the red and white dunes, the lotus lake (impressive when they are in bloom), the Fey stream and the Red Canyon deserve attention. The latter is especially beautiful closer to the sea, and you can ride ATVs or sleds in the deserts.

3 things to do in Mui Ne

  1. Get on the board and catch the wave.
  2. Learn to cook crocodile meat over charcoal and cook turtle soup.
  3. Go fishing and catch squid.

Weather in Mui Ne

The climate of Mui Ne is tropical, there is no cold weather, the winter season differs from the summer only in the amount of precipitation. This is one of the sunniest corners of Vietnam, the temperature of the air and water allows swimming all year round.

The best time to go kite and windsurf is from November to March. In other months there are also winds and strong waves, but they are unstable. It is better for beginners to go out to sea in the morning, only experienced athletes can cope with the elements at lunchtime. Those who do not plan to conquer the wave should choose the end of spring or the beginning of autumn for relaxation. In summer there are often rains here, but they are short-lived and hardly interfere with rest.

Mui Ne is a famous Vietnamese resort located 4 hours drive from the capital of Vietnam Hanoi and 15 minutes drive from Phan Thiet (a small fishing town). The road, of course, is exhausting (especially after a long flight of about 9 hours), but believe me, it's worth it. A voucher can be bought from a tour operator, then the guide will meet you, sit you on a comfortable bus, and all the way will tell you about the sights and the resort. You can also order a taxi to the hotel, which costs the same for the money, and you will get there much faster.

Interesting fact about Vietnam:

According to legend, the Vietnamese people descended from a dragon and a fairy bird

This is not the first time we have been resting here and we plan to return again. Mui Ne is ideal for a relaxing family holiday.

The resort guide (which you will be given upon arrival) advertises the trendy clubs:

"Unique, trendy hangout place"

“Unique atmosphere. Dance floor on the sand, dancers "

"Dancing on the bar until the morning"

If they don't give you a guide, then take a look outside in the evening. It is distributed free of charge in the center. The guide looks like a magazine.

Don't believe it. If anyone will dance until the morning, it will be you and your company. People come to Mui Ne to take a break from the bustle of the city, go for spa treatments, swim, eat delicacies, see the sights in the area, go windsurfing or kitesurfing, go shopping, but not hang out.

The attitude of local residents towards tourists is captivating. The Vietnamese are very well-mannered and love Russian tourists. They are always welcoming and helpful. They are more willing to speak Russian than English, since Russian was previously included in the compulsory educational program of the Vietnamese.

Interesting fact about Vietnam:

You can also get from Moscow to Vietnam by train. True, this will require 1 change in Beijing, and the entire journey will take at least 7 days.

Vietnamese do not ask for tips, but, on the contrary, are very surprised when you leave for a tip in a restaurant. A couple of times the waiters even ran after us to return the forgotten money. And when we said what kind of service it was, we were very surprised, thanked, and once we took the mango with us. It is very nice.

Every time we stay in Mui Ne in different hotels. But having visited Vietnam several times, we have developed a strategy for the selection of a hotel. Read more about how we choose a hotel in Vietnam.

The country is surprised by the large number of motorbikers and taxis. Local residents hardly walk, so there are almost no pedestrian paths. In Mui Ne itself, you can move around on foot, but if you decide to go somewhere, it is better to use transport. Read about transport in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet in. The taxi driver is responsible for you. And what is surprising in Vietnam is that if you use the services of a local taxi (white-green cars), you can trust him: he will take you wherever you ask, bring you back and nothing will happen with the bags left in his car, don't even worry. While shopping in Phan Thiet, we drove the whole city in one taxi, he helped us put our bags in the car, waited for us and explained what is worth seeing and how to quickly get to the store we need.

Remember

The Vietnamese also cross the road not along the passage, but anywhere. The basic rule: do not fuss or panic, but calmly move on. The driver will drive around you. Of course, I would not recommend throwing yourself under the wheels.

Vietnam is famous for its fruits (read in the article) and delicacies (read more in the articles - and). Fruit can be bought on almost every corner. These are mango, watermelon, rambutan, durian, and many others. Their prices are much lower than in Russia, and they are juicier and more ripe.

You can also buy fruit to take on the road. The seller must be told that you want to take the fruit with you. Then they will pick you fruits that will withstand the long flight and immediately pack them.

Vietnam is famous for its seafood delicacies. Come to Mui Ne and not try huge grilled shrimps, octopuses, lobsters ... And everything is much cheaper than in Russia, and most importantly, fresh.

Whom can you find in the waters of the South China Sea?

Vietnam has a rich history and culture. So there is something to see here. We still haven't seen all of Vietnam.

Interesting fact about Vietnam:

Vietnam was part of China for about 1000 years

I'll start talking about what we saw and where we were in order:

  1. Phan Thiet
  • Prenn park, in more detail;
  • entertainment center Datanla with a waterfall, more details;
  • Temple of the Sitting Buddha, more details;
  • Chuk Lam monastery, more details;
  • hotel "Crazy House", more details;
  • silk factory, more details;
  • a visit to a tea and coffee plant, in more detail.

This is all that we have visited in Vietnam, having rest several times in Mui Ne. In the immediate vicinity of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, we have not yet seen the lotus lake, sand dunes, red canyon, Chinese temple in Phan Thiet. So, I think we will also visit Phan Thiet and Mui Ne, not to mention Vietnam itself.

Vietnam is a country where you can try for relatively little money compared to Russia not only seafood delicacies (for more details, see

UPD. An article about holidays in Mui Ne was written a hundred years ago. Now I would not be so categorical. There are also pluses: fresh seafood, low prices, beautiful nature, sea (you can't always swim, but it is there!). One day I will return to Mui Ne and rewrite the post, but for now I ask you not to be offended if the text caused you negative emotions. Vietnam is cool!

I will share my impressions, reviews, show a photo and tell you about what the popular resort of Phan Thiet in the south of Vietnam and its "offshoot" Mui Ne, which is affectionately known by the people as "Mui Ne", is a favorite hangout place for kitesurfers and Russian package tourists.

Prices for tours to Vietnam ↓

But first, the background. Oh, how long have I not written backstories! If you are interested in practical information, you can go directly to the desired place in the article by clicking on the link:

***
Was Vietnam in my life? Probably it was, since the old passport has a stamp on entry on a Vietnamese visa, bought for $ 77 in the center of Vientiane, Lao. I am with 70 men to travel around the country. With all my heart I wanted to travel from north to south in a month and see authentic villages, national parks and deserted beaches, which I had read about.

Now, when I love and be loved by a wonderful adequate person, it is difficult for me to understand the motives that moved me during that period of my life. What made me abandon the planned route in one night, buy two plane tickets for my own money and follow to noisy Mui Ne where I didn’t want to go?

Part of the passion I wrote about earlier. But, to be completely honest, the driving force was the sudden fear of being left alone and the progressive self-doubt at that time. It was in such a strange state that I found myself at night on the streets of Vietnamese Mui Ne. A place that did not fit into my format, and into which I did not fit in any way.

But the fact remains. I arrived in Mui Ne, stayed there for several days, and then hastily left the resort. In the best traditions. At night.

Visiting foreign backpackers, who were mistakenly brought into Mui Ne by the finger of fate, curse and also try to make their legs as soon as possible, after which they heal the received mental wounds with bottles of beer in Saigon, where, sitting in the evening on small blue chairs in the Pham Ngu Lao area, they pour their exciting stories about adventures in "russian ghetto" in the ears of those who, for some reason, are planning to go to Mui Ne, having read about the resort in the guidebook.

If at this moment, as if by the way, say something like “By the way, my mother tongue is Russian”, in response you can only hear the sad “I’m very sorry. D'you wanna beer? I invite ”.

It's not that foreigners don't like Russians, but rather they are shocked by the surroundings of Mui Ne. A person simply cannot expect to come to Vietnam and find himself in the Russian 2000s. Nowadays, you don't really need to go to Russia to hear Alla Pugacheva and Nikolai Baskov shouting their wonderful songs all over the street.

All this is right on the main street in Mui Ne along with borscht, dumplings, sour cream and smiling Vietnamese who are trying to sell you a dragonfruit for $ 3 apiece and say, “This is deseva, madam! Autumn deseva! "

To be honest, Mui Ne is one of those rare places on Earth that I do not like and where I do not want to return for any price. In this article I will try to talk about the resort impartially and note the main pros and cons that caught my eye.

You will say that everything was written a long time ago. Yes but not all. What they write about Mui Ne is more often a lie and custom nonsense copied by copywriters from other copywriters who have never been to Vietnam.

The very first tab on the request of MUI ne led me to the website of the travel agency "Rainbow", which says that "Phan Thiet is perfect for families with children, because there are comfortable beaches" and that Cape MUI ne is, it turns out, an ideal place for a quiet recreation. Sure sure. How so!

Let at least my dear readers learn the truth from me, since the agency "Rainbow" and others like them are not assistants in this.

The secret of the popularity of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet

Mui Ne was once a simple village in the south of Vietnam. The fishermen were leisurely fishing and shellfish fishing in their small boats, the sun rose from day to day at 5.30 in the morning and set below the horizon at 6 in the evening.

Like 1000 years ago, the times of dusk and dawn in Vietnam are the same today. Just like 100 years ago, the streets of the village are now filled with the intoxicating smell of fish sauce. But something has changed and continues to change.

The wind blows constantly from the desert. In the early 2000s, this very wind brought the first kitesurfers and windsurfers to Mui Ne. Since then, the once deserted shores south of the fishing village began to be actively built up with hotels and concrete houses.

Even 5-7 years ago, mainly surfers and kitesurfers traveled to Mui Ne. During the day, the guys skated, and in the evening they got drunk and glued the girls in several local bars. A kind of party "for their own". It was possible to live cheaply and have fun all winter in the company of kite friends.

But one day large Russian travel companies found out about Mui Ne. The monsters of the travel industry have explored the potential and started selling organized tours to a godforsaken village in southern Vietnam.

The Vietnamese know how to adapt, so they quickly learned Russian, raised the prices for housing and fruit and turned the vicinity of Mui Ne into the tourist capital of Vietnam, giving the sprawling resort the proud French name Phan Thiet.

Mui Ne and Phan Thiet beaches

Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are located 7 km from each other on the coast of the South China Sea. Tourists with a higher travel budget settle in Phan Thiet. There are more expensive hotels and prices in cafes are higher than in Mui Ne. Those with a modest travel budget tend to find accommodation closer to the fishing village.

These resorts smoothly flow into one another and represent a strip of beaches 15 km long, along which there are hotels. From more expensive to less expensive.

There are wild beaches to the north of Mui Ne that can only be reached by bike. Some of them do not even have a road and you have to drive along the sand along the sea.

Despite the fact that Phan Thiet and Mui Ne are positioned as resorts for family beach holidays, swimming there is very problematic, especially with small children.

The sea is dirty and violent. You can swim only in the morning, at lunchtime there are big waves, it is uncomfortable to lie on the shore, because the sand blown by the wind unpleasantly cuts the skin

Why go to Mui Ne people who do not ride is a mystery to me. There is only one explanation - tours are inexpensive, in the offices of tour operators hang noodles on their ears, that's why people go

Features of rest in Mui Ne (Phan Thiet), my reviews:

  • The entire resort is located on either side of one main street, Nguyen Dinh Chieu, which runs along the beach. All cafes, shops, hotels and guest houses are located on this street.
  • Nowhere in the world have I seen so many compatriots vacationing. Even in Turkey it is smaller. Signs in the native language hang on cafes and restaurants, and in the evenings the drawn-out voice of Baskov and the groovy songs of Kirkorov and Pugachova can be heard from the speakers. I do not know if it is possible to meet in Phan Thiet these days a Vietnamese who does not speak Russian.
  • If you have lived in Thailand before and are now looking for an alternative for a longer stay, then it is likely that Mui Ne will disappoint you. Better Consider Nha Trang
  • Phan Thiet is for you if you are fond of kitesurfing and surfing. There are dozens of instructors to help you get on the board, but the beach in Mui Ne is not the best place to study. The strip of sand is very narrow, there are large waves in the sea, and the depth begins immediately near the coast
  • There are no large supermarkets here that you get used to in Thailand. Goods have to be bought in small private shops with a surcharge
  • There are reviews on the internet about meetings with rats, but I have not seen rodents. Let's believe we're extinct
  • Since there is no public transport as such, you will have to rent a motorcycle. Bikes are rented both with manual gearbox and automatic machines. If you don’t know how to ride a bike and don’t want to, you can buy excursions at one of the many travel agencies.
  • Be sure to hide your helmets in the trunk. Our helmet was stolen from our bike right in the hotel yard

Where to eat and shop in Phan Thiet and Mui Ne

  • There are more or less quality markets in Phan Thiet, called Coop Mart and Lotte Mart. When buying food, be sure to look at the expiration date!
  • If you are looking for fresh vegetables and fruits, then it is better to buy them early in the morning at the Hàm Tiến market in the center of Mui Ne. The same goes for fresh seafood. You need to come to the market for them from 6 to 9 in the morning.
  • In the evenings, fruit prices in small shops can be twice as high as in the market.
  • Cafes change every year, the service deteriorates, so check the current information about cafes and restaurants on the spot, or better find it in the social. networks of someone who now lives in Mui Ne and ask him

Attractions Phan Thiet (Mui Ne) and surroundings

The sights are rather arbitrary. There are not so many of them, and all of them are mostly natural. Without straining too much, all the surrounding beauty can be viewed in one or two days, but this will require a bike.

Red stream

Shown as Fairy Stream on maps. Located in the center of the Mui Ne resort area. It is a canyon with red walls and a stream flowing through it, in the place of which there was a deep river. It is because of the Red Creek that the water in the sea is so muddy.

It is difficult to miss the stream, as there is a fish sauce factory near the entrance to it. As soon as you smell the strong fish smell, you are there!

Cham Towers of Pasha

Built in the 8th century, the remains of the Cham culture.

Red dunes

5 km from the village of Mui Ne. You can get there by bus or bike. Better to go in the morning. It is very hot during the day. A taxi will cost $ 7. This is exactly how much it costs to rent a bike for 1 day.

Red dunes

Red canyon

Located on the way to the White Dunes. If you go with a guided tour, you will be released to the stream for two minutes. Better to take a bike and ride it yourself

White dunes and lotus lake

White dunes and wild beaches on the way to them are the best I've seen in Vietnam, so I highly recommend visiting this place. You can buy an organized tour ($ 10 per person) or rent a bike. Of course, the bike is more fun. Drive 40 minutes one way.

White dunes

What else to see in Mui Ne:

In the vicinity there is Taku mountain with a statue of a reclining Buddha, Ke Ga lighthouse, Pitahaya plantation. There are several museums and an amusement park in Phan Thiet.

Mountain Dalat

If you come on vacation for a couple of weeks, I highly recommend going to Da Lat for three days. It is a French city in the mountains in the center of Vietnam.

Excursions to Dalat are sold in Mui Ne, but the best thing is to just buy a bus ticket, book a hotel in Dalat for a couple of nights, rent a bike on the spot and travel around the surrounding mountains and waterfalls, crackling strawberries.

Prices in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet

Housing prices start at 10-15$ per day for a modest room with a shower in a small guesthouse by the sea.

Prices for food in a cafe - 5-10$
Soup - 2.5-3$
Salad - from 3$
Meat and hot dishes - from 5$
Fresh - 2.5$
Coffee - 1$

Kitesurfing training - from 50-60$ in a day
Equipment rental - from 50$ in a day

Guest for $ 10 per day
Shells

Prices for excursions in Mui Ne

  • Dalat - one day 40-55$ , two-day - 110-150$ per person
  • Mount Taco - group 30$ per person
  • Group Taku - Bin Chau Springs - Crocodile Farm - 60$
  • White dunes - 10$ for one

Prices for the same excursion in different agencies can vary greatly. For example, on Dima-tour you will be offered to go to the Mekong Delta for $ 120, and on Lena-tour for the same excursion they may ask for $ 150.

In general, if you don't want to rent a bike and ride it yourself, go to the agencies and ask who offers what. In addition to the standard "farm, crocodile, stream, dunes, Saigon", you can find something really interesting and uninhabited.

How to get to Mui Ne?

The nearest airport is located in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

From the center of Ho Chi Minh City by bus to Mui Ne to go 5-7 hours. The ticket costs 7-10$ , but to get on the bus, you first need to come from Saigon airport to the city center on Phan Ngu Lao, find a ticket office and buy a bus ticket there, or you can view the schedule in advance and buy a bus ticket on the Internet.

You can use the search form below. When the list of tickets opens, you can change the currency in the upper right corner (rubles, Vietnamese dongs, dollars). It is a local Asian search engine that shows all available options - from expensive to cheapest ↓↓

Bus from Saigon to Mui Ne

Should you go on vacation in Mui Ne?

Thus, if you, like me, prefer not very tourist places for life or rest and in every country you are looking first of all for local flavor, then a vacation in Mui Ne will definitely not suit you. Better consider Nha Trang as an alternative.

Firstly, you don't need to travel that far to eat seafood and chat with compatriots. Secondly, if you need a quality beach holiday, then the Phan Thiet coast cannot boast of paradise beaches. The sea is dirty, waves.

If you, as a famous baby mammoth, are not afraid of waves, wind, rats, or drunken kitesurfers (or maybe you are a drunken kiter yourself), then congratulations. Muiña suits you! But you already know this without me and most likely you will not read this article.

If you have been to those places several years ago, do not rush to argue with me and say how cool it is. Since then, the resort has deteriorated and continues to deteriorate.

An unforgettable holiday in Vietnam! Sincerely,

23 reasons not to go on holiday in Phan Thiet and Mui Ne, Vietnam

    Why do Russians love and hate Mui Ne so much? Read our review! Pros and cons of staying in Mui Ne in 2019, hotel prices, food and entertainment, top attractions, the whole truth about the beaches and the resort.

    Holidays in Mui Ne: what to expect from the resort

    What the resort looks like... If you are going on vacation in Mui Ne for the first time, it is important to know: Mui Ne is a fishing village on the cape, where the locals live. There are almost no tourists there. Phan Thiet is a large city. But when they say that they are going to rest in Mui Ne, they mean the many kilometers of beach area between the fishing village and Phan Thiet. Its length is about 20 km. There is only one street along the coast, covered, like with shellfish, hotels and resorts, bokeh and restaurants, pharmacies and souvenir shops. This is where tourists live. In general, this is not a promoted resort with neat green streets, but a tourist zone cluttered with advertisements and signs. Don't expect too much.

    Tourists' opinions about Mui Ne... As in the case of Nha Trang, we put off visiting the resort for a long time because of the prevailing stereotype that this is a Russian ghetto. Reviews of tourists about their vacation in Mui Ne are contradictory: from enthusiastic to devastating. We suspected the first of pursuing advertising goals. These reviews were either paid for by hotels / travel agencies, or the people who wrote them lived in isolation in a good resort and did not leave it - they paint too rosy a picture of recreation at the resort. The latter are usually due to a personal unpleasant story (robbed, deceived) or overestimated expectations.

    Why did we decide to visit Mui Ne? Here are some reasons:

    1. The main one is the sights, namely the dunes. I love the desert and space landscapes.
    2. It was terribly interesting why the village was so stigmatized on the Internet and whether everything was really that bad - after all, with Nha Trang it turned out not to be as it was told.
    3. I wanted to close the gestalt, because we have visited almost all corners of Vietnam, and this village has not yet been honored with a visit.

    Closed bokeh, access to the seashore (there is no beach here).

    Weather in Mui Ne

    We rested at the resort for only five days in January 2018. According to the forecast, it was expected to rain, but it was just cloudy. At first I was upset - how can I take beautiful photos of the famous red and white dunes in this weather? Then I realized that we were extremely lucky with the weather: we would not have known all the charm of the Fairy Creek and dunes under the scorching sun.

    So about the weather... Thanks to the sand dunes, its own microclimate has been formed. There are no sudden cold snaps, heavy rains and flood storms. The rainy season is from June to October, but the showers are mainly in the evening and for a short time. On average, the air temperature is + 30 ° С, in winter it is about + 27 ° С. The water temperature in summer is + 27 ... + 29 ° С, and in winter it is about + 24 ° С. May and April are the hottest. Rest is popular.

    We read in tourist reviews about the weather in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet that in winter, due to the winds, it can be cool in the evenings. This is true, especially if you ride a bike in the evening. I was freezing and put on jeans and a shirt.

    This is how the main street in Mui Ne looks like: countless cafes, bokeh, travel agencies.

    How to get to Mui Ne

    We got to Mui Ne from Ho Chi Minh City on a daytime slip bass. We chose the Hanh Cafe agency: they have a departure even during the day, and not only at night, plus with their help. There are many bus ticket agencies in Ho Chi Minh City - they all lined up in one line along Phạm Ngũ Lão Street. Choose any. Prices and departure times are different. We use Hanh Cafe and Sinh Tourist. The ticket price is from 110 thousand dongs.

    The bus passes through Phan Thiet and travels slowly along the beach, dropping everyone along the way. The main thing is to show the name of the hotel to the driver or its location on the map.

    What to see in Mui Ne

    During our vacation in Mui Ne, we visited several attractions:

    Red dunes... They are rather orange or yellow-red, depending on the lighting. Tourists huddle on a few nearby dunes and mostly slide down on pieces of plastic. We went much further, where there was no one. There was a feeling of complete isolation and calmness. It is best to visit at sunset and cloudy weather. It's very stuffy during the day.

    Red dunes in Mui Ne. Riding on plastic "sleds" is the main entertainment here.

    White dunes. It is a very picturesque place, but tourists are more active here than on the red dunes - they ride ATVs, jeeps and pieces of plastic. Therefore, there is noise and din. Again, we got away from people - it was wonderful. Sightseeing buses arrive at sunset. There are several lakes near the dunes. It seems that during the rainy season, one of them is covered with blooming lotuses.

    Picturesque white dunes near Mui Ne. A beautiful and unusual landscape.
    On the white dunes, tourists ride with a breeze on ATVs and jeeps.

    Fairy Stream (Red Stream). Fairy Stream is unexpectedly a very impressive attraction! The landscapes are breathtaking, the place is spiritual. We climbed the sand into different gorges and looked at the stream from above, and also launched a drone - it's so beautiful there. We spent a total of 4 hours in this place. You can get there both from the village and from the side of the highway to Phan Thiet. The second entrance is good because it is clean, there are few tourists, the entrance is free, and the beauty of the places is growing gradually. Parking - 5 thousand VND.

    Top view of the fairy stream.
    In addition to walking along the stream, you can climb the slopes of the canyon.

    It has its own charm, but a lot of rubbish. There were no people at all. It is unbearably hot during the day.

    There are still a few sights of Mui Ne that we did not have time to see:

    • Cham towers... They look like Po Nagar towers in Nha Trang.
    • Ke Ga lighthouse.
    • Mount Taku 30 km from the village. The views from it are picturesque. At the top is a statue of the Reclining Buddha.

    Red Canyon near Mui Ne.

    What are the prices in Mui Ne in 2019

    Prices for food in a cafe

    Exchange rate: 10,000 Vietnamese dong (VND) ≈ 27 RUB.

    We came here after Fukuoka where the prices in the cafe were greatly overpriced. Mui Ne seemed like heaven to us in terms of food - everything was so cheap! In general, the prices in the cafe are about the same as in Nha Trang.

    Here are the food prices using the example of the bokeh (seafood restaurant) Bo Ke Tho, where we had dinner every evening and tried almost the entire range:

    Dish Qty Price
    Grilled scallops 15 pcs 50,000 VND
    Fried or stewed shark 1 PC 220,000 VND
    Snake 1 PC 1,500,000 VND
    Fried frogs Some 120,000 VND
    Grilled oysters 1 kg 120,000 VND
    Crocodile steak 1 serving 150,000 VND
    Ostrich steak 1 serving 200,000 VND
    Fried red snapper 1 PC 200,000 VND
    Fried or stewed turtle 1 PC 300,000 VND
    Grilled eel 1 PC 220,000 VND
    Squid 70,000-150,000 VND
    Tiger chrimp 10 pieces 120,000 VND
    Lobster 1 kg 1,200,000 VND
    Rice with seafood A portion 60,000 VND

    Seafood at Bo ke in Mui Ne. Choose the reptiles that you like, and they will be cooked for you right there. The seafood is fresh, almost still alive.
    Kari soup in a cafe in Mui Ne.
    Many places have menus in Russian, often even some of the staff speaks Russian.

    Prices for hotels in Mui Ne - 2019

    Jeeping in the White Dunes. The lines of the dunes are flawless and beautiful - we admire!

    Pros and cons of staying in Mui Ne

    Why do many Russians come here over and over again? What attracts them? Let's see what tourists like and what they are unhappy with.

    Pros of vacation in Mui Ne - 2019:

    • interesting sights;
    • delicious cheap seafood - there is hardly a place in the world where you can cheaply eat shellfish, shark, turtle and other marine life;
    • inexpensive food;
    • cheap training in kite and windsurfing;
    • suitable weather conditions for active sports;
    • good roads - it's nice to ride a bike;
    • there is almost no nightlife (for some it is a minus);
    • many excursions, including to other cities - for example, Dalat or Nha Trang;
    • for those who do not speak English, it is good - almost everything is in Russian, some Vietnamese know the language.

    If you live in a five-star resort and eat in expensive restaurants nearby, chances are you will hardly be affected by the cons of the resort (other than the stormy sea, of course).

    Beach in Mui Ne. Suitable for windsurfing only. Garbage, muddy water - not a "bounty" at all.

    Minuses:

    • unsuitable weather conditions for a beach holiday;
    • garbage, dirt and unpleasant odors - the Vietnamese are not famous for cleanliness;
    • general devastation;
    • contingent;
    • an abundance of advertisements and ugly signs (they never heard of design here) - someone will consider it a trifle, but this greatly spoils the appearance of the resort;
    • long drive from the airport;
    • beaches are cleaned only at expensive resorts;
    • the locals are spoiled by tourists;
    • the tourist zone is very stretched, and it is difficult without a bike (especially since there are not everywhere sidewalks);
    • passages to the sea either through wastelands and dumps, or through resorts - but they are unlikely to let you through.

    About the sea and beaches. Some tourists write in reviews about the good beach and gentle sea in Mui Ne. People, are you serious? We did not dare to enter this "gentle" sea. Maybe bad luck with the weather. And the beaches are cleaned only next to the hotel, it is better not to look beyond this territory.

    About garbage. He's everywhere. Along the roads, on the sidewalks, on the beach and in the sea, in wastelands ... But this is a problem for the whole of Vietnam.

    About nightlife. We do not like bars, clubs, discos and, in general, crowds of people, especially drunk people. Therefore, we cannot say anything on this point. According to tourists, all nightlife is concentrated in Dragon Beach, Sankara and Line Up Bar and Grill.

    About the appearance of the resort. When we passed the village on a slipbass, we were blinded by the neon colors of our eyes. One gets an unpleasant impression from all these signs with designs from the 90s with inscriptions in Russian: "Dima Tours", "Uzbek", "Pharmacy", etc. Have we arrived in Vietnam or where? Why disfigure the resort like that?

    This beach is located north of the village of Mui Ne, you need to go here by bike. It is spacious and fairly clean, but the winds are strong here.

    Our impression and feedback about the rest in Mui Ne

    So, we believe that Mui Ne is worth going just for the sake of attractions, delicious inexpensive seafood and outdoor activities. That's all. We sincerely wonder why beach lovers (especially with children) go to the place where the wind always blows, dirty beaches and an unrepeatable sea. For the same money you can, where are the beaches and the sea, or. And even better -. But if you like MUI ne, then please.

    We are talking about the two most popular resorts in Vietnam - Mui Ne and Phan Thiet. Why are they good and what are the disadvantages of resorts? Here are the reviews of tourists and prices for vacations in 2019.

    Perhaps no resort has received such conflicting reviews from tourists as the Vietnamese Mui Ne (Phan Thiet). Some scold him mercilessly, others admire him and gladly recommend him to visit. Let's try to understand the reasons for such ambiguous assessments.

    Phan Thiet and MUI ne:

    Reviews about holidays in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet for 2018

    Muine and Phan Thiet are often identified with each other, although these are different settlements located in the neighborhood. Phan Thiet is a provincial town with active traffic and other joys of city life, while Mui Ne is a quiet fishing village. Most often, tourists call Mui Ne a multi-kilometer beach area with hotels and restaurants, stretching from Phan Thiet to the village.

    The busiest area of the resort is Ham Tien with Nguyen Din Chu street, on both sides of which there are hotels and restaurants, mainly on the first line. The beaches are equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers. The sandy strip is wide, with fine white sand, but closer to the fishing village it narrows, by the way, there are cheaper hotels, but the beaches are worse.

    The disadvantages of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, according to the reviews of tourists who rested there in 2018, include difficulties with the road: you need to fly to Ho Chi Minh City, and from there it will take a bus or taxi for a few more hours. But the sea caused the main displeasure of some tourists. In Mui Ne, winds blow most of the time, high waves rise on the sea, and swimming becomes extreme. It is better to get to the beach in the morning, after lunch the excitement only intensifies. The sea becomes relatively calm only in spring.

    For lovers of kiting, Mui Ne is a real expanse; there are several good schools on the coast, where beginners can get training and get the necessary skills. In the evenings, the main entertainment of tourists is walking, shopping in souvenir shops and dinner on the seashore - seafood is excellently prepared here. If you get bored of a beach holiday, you can go on an excursion around the surroundings or go to Ho Chi Minh City or Da Lat.

    By the way, tourists who do not speak English will find it easy here - almost all signs and menus are in Russian, the staff are also often Russian-speaking. The second undoubted plus of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, according to tourists' reviews, is the affordable cost of rest, although when compared with Nha Trang, the prices here are slightly higher.

    Weather in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet

    The warm climate of Mui Ne allows you to rest here all year round, without fear of sudden cold snaps and torrential rains. Around Mui Ne, a natural belt of sand dunes has formed, which create a special microclimate and protect the area from heavy rainfall. Even dangerous storms with floods bypass these places.

    The average annual temperature in Mui Ne is kept at around + 30 ° С with a slight "winter" decrease to +25 ... + 27 ° С. The warmest sea in summer is + 27 ... + 29 ° С, in winter it cools down to + 24 ° С. It is hottest in May and April, coldest of all -. Nevertheless, many prefer to come.

    The rains begin in June and continue until October, then dry and clear weather sets in. However, in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, even in the low season, the showers do not last long - usually in the afternoon and evening, the relative humidity remains at 79%.

    According to tourists' reviews about the weather in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, in December - January, due to strong winds, it can be a little cool in the evenings, so jeans and windbreakers will be very useful. High waves rise on the sea. Read more about - we tell about the weather in each month.

    Prices for holidays in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet in 2019

    Of course, kitesurfers will get the most out of their vacation in Mui Ne, but non-sports tourists also have something to do. There are many massage parlors (spas), treatments cost from 15 to 30 dollars.

    Gourmets await gastronomic pleasures: in the cafe you can order grilled fish, mussels, scallops, oysters, lobsters, as well as local exotic dishes from a crocodile or a snake. The best seafood is prepared in restaurants in the Boke area. The fresh catch is placed in the aquarium, and the guest orders what he wants. According to reviews, prices in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are quite democratic - you can dine for only $ 5, dinner for $ 15 (it will be even cheaper in local establishments). A large glass of freshly squeezed juice costs just over $ 1.

    In the vicinity of Mui Ne there are unique attractions that you can visit with a guided tour or on your own. In short, the top most interesting places looks like this:

    1. White and Red dunes... These are the main attractions of Mui Ne and a favorite place for photo shoots with newlyweds. The Red Dunes are easily accessible by renting a scooter, the White Dunes are located a little further. Near the Red Dunes, the Red Stream flows - due to the admixture of clay, the water in it turns red. Not far from the White Dunes there are hot springs and a very beautiful lake with lotuses.
    2. Cham towers... These towers are the surviving part of the ancient temple complex of the 8th century. The entrance is paid - 10 thousand dongs, or 50 cents. The towers look especially impressive in the evening, when the backlight is turned on.
    3. Ke Ga lighthouse... A granite creation by a French architect and a very popular local landmark. The lighthouse is located on an island near Phan Thiet. To climb the observation deck, you will have to show physical endurance and climb 182 steps inside the tower. The entrance is paid - about 90 cents, in addition, you need to pay for the ferry to the island. According to tourists, in the winter of 2018, the territory where the lighthouse is located was called the collapse zone and they stopped letting visitors inside. Let's hope this is temporary.
    4. Mount Taku... Located 30 km from Mui Ne. At the top is the Reclining Buddha statue, the largest in the country. Its length is 49 meters, height - 11 m. You can climb the mountain by funicular or walk along a path through the rainforest past the temples and other structures of the monks. The cost of a visit with the cable car is 160 thousand VND ($ 7).

    Prices for hotels in 2019

    On a note. If you are at a resort during the Vietnamese New Year, keep in mind that hotel prices are going up tremendously and there are no places conceived in them - they are booked by the Vietnamese almost six months in advance. We encountered this when we lived in Nha Trang in the winter of 2016 - we had to leave for Ho Chi Minh City, since the hotel in which we lived on Tet was overcrowded, while others cost 2-3 times higher than the usual price. Tet is celebrated in late January or early February.

    How to book a hotel? You can find a convenient accommodation option for yourself on the well-known Roomguru.ru service - the site compares prices of various booking systems and finds the best one.

    In general, Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are a good alternative and (although you don't need to wait for the service corresponding to Turkish resorts), a place for an inexpensive and relaxing holiday, where the main entertainment is walking, beach joys, sitting in cafes and unobtrusive shopping. Fans of nightlife and divers have nothing to do here - there is no nightlife, and the water, due to constant waves, often mixes with sand, muddy and opaque.

    According to tourists, they are characterized by high waves and winds, so during this period you should not plan a vacation with children, but it is better to postpone it to March-April or November. At this time, the most comfortable temperature indicators, a very warm sea, and the waves are insignificant.

    Kitesurfers can go any time of the year, because the winds in Mui Ne are common, but the best waves here are from November to March. Those who want to save on cost can safely go during the low season: prices in hotels and restaurants are reduced, and climatic conditions make it possible to rest comfortably.

    Compare Mui Ne and Phan Thiet with - so you can choose the best vacation spot for yourself.
