I dreamed about Geneva for a long time, I knew, perhaps, absolutely everything about it. Most of all I wanted to see Lake Geneva. That is why, while vacationing in Prague, I got the idea of going to Geneva. After all, what is almost 1,000 kilometers for a dream?

How to get there by car

If I hadn't been resting myself, I would have used this option. 1000 kilometers on a road of excellent quality, through the whole territory of Germany and through interesting cities would be a great adventure. Even the absence of a car would not be a hindrance, it can always be rented on or on a similar site. It is much cheaper to return the car in Prague, if you do it in Geneva, be prepared to pay about 540 euros per day for the car! So, if you go by car, then you will have as many as three route options to choose from:

  • through the A-6 highway;
  • through the A-1 highway;

jointly through these two routes.

Now all three roads are under repair roads, so there will be traffic jams. I don't understand what can be repaired there, because the roads are of perfect quality! There are paid sites. You don't need to pay anything to travel through Germany, enjoy the ride. But in the Czech Republic and Switzerland, you will need to buy vignettes. They cost a lot of money, in my opinion. For Czech you need to pay 310 kroons (12 euros), the sticker is valid for 10 days. And in Switzerland, in general, robbery - 40 francs (36 euros), but the vignette can be used for more than a year (even though you do not leave the country until the money is rolled back). Gasoline prices in the three countries are about the same - from 1.13 euros (in the Czech Republic) to 1.32 euros (in Germany). It is logical to fill a full tank while still in Prague. But there are many gas stations along the way, as well as road infrastructure - cafes, shops and hotels. You will hardly need the latter, because you can get there in 10-11 hours.

How to get there by bus

When planning a bus trip, I first ran to look for cheap tickets on the Flixbus carrier's website, but the site upset me. There are no direct flights, only with transfers. The road will take from 14 to 19 hours. But there are many options, you can choose a convenient one.

The bus carrier Noblessline was also not particularly pleased, offering direct flights only to Bern. But the bus is night, you can sleep, which is a huge plus. And there is a bus every day.

Next, you need to get there by train. They run every half hour from 5 am to midnight. Drive a little over an hour. Convenient, but I still wanted to get from Prague to Geneva on a direct flight. And I found one! The carrier RegioJet saved me. But even here it was not without a fly in the ointment, the bus runs only once a week.

The ride is long, almost 15 hours. But the bus is as comfortable as possible, and besides, the flight is night. Conveniently.

What's the price

RegioJet has dynamic pricing, as shown in the screenshot. So a ticket for May 10 can be bought for only 39 euros (it will not be cheaper), closer to the date of the trip, the cost of the ticket will be higher. At Flixbus, the price depends on where to transfer. Ticket prices range from 50 to 70 euros. A ticket for the Noblessline night bus costs approximately 73 euros (1900 CZK). A train ticket to Geneva costs 22.5 euros.

Where can I buy

The most convenient way to order a ticket is on the website of the required carrier:

You can buy a train ticket on the railway operator's website.

How to get there by plane

The direct bus flight did not work for me according to the dates, so I decided to fly by plane. Direct flights operate every other day at 14:10 from Prague airport. An hour and a half later, the plane lands at the Geneva airport. Flights are operated by SWISS. She has daily connecting flights. The transfer takes place in Zurich.

I flew without a change, did not even have time to get comfortable when the pilot announced that the plane was going to land. :)

Ticket price

A ticket for a direct flight costs 72 euros (1,850 kroons), a ticket for a connecting flight starts from 85 euros (2,188 kroons).

Where to buy tickets

How to get there by train

There are no direct train flights to Geneva, it makes sense to go with a change in Zurich if you really need a train ride. There is only one train to Zurich, it runs at night. Departures at 18:02 from Prague Train Station and arrives at Zurich Main Station at 08:20 in the morning.

This is not the most convenient option, but it also has a place to be.

How much are the tickets

A train ticket from Prague to Zurich will cost about 40 euros. And from Zurich to Geneva you can get there for 44 pounds.

Where to buy tickets

For some reason, there is no way to buy a ticket online on the website of the Czech railway operator, so you will have to go to the ticket office of the Prague railway station to get a travel document to Zurich. But on the website of the Swiss railway operator there is an opportunity to buy a ticket to Geneva online.

And the same amount back.
A direct bus will be faster, but not by much.
So a trip on the ground will take you at least 3 days.
Look for air travel options.
