Not a single piece of evidence
The tragedy took place on May 13 this year in a three-star hotel in the Tunisian city of Mahdia. The maid found the body of an 8-year-old girl in the room - she was lying in the bathtub. As the examination will later show, the child was strangled. Nastya's mother will be found a little later on the beach. But she could not explain to the police what happened to her daughter. The police conducted their own investigation and, finding no evidence of Natalya's guilt, let her go home. The woman immediately went to the Krasnodar Territory to visit her relatives (a little earlier she sent the coffin with the girl's body there), from where Balandina was already brought to St. Petersburg for interrogation. The investigation considered that Natalya should be taken into custody (according to unofficial information, one of the reasons allegedly could be the inappropriate behavior of a suspect capable of suicide). The Oktyabrskiy District Court found no grounds for the arrest. There is not a single piece of evidence against Natalia Balandina proving her involvement in the murder of her daughter. But the pendulum of public opinion has already swung in an accusatory direction.
Although in the first days after the news about the murder of Nastya, the reaction of people who knew Natalia was the same - “we do not believe!”. Colleagues at the OKA shopping center in Kolpino, where Balandina worked as a children's hairdresser, unanimously argued that she could not commit such an atrocity. “A kind, sympathetic, loving mother,” they declared. Veniamin Dostoevsky, who worked with Balandina in the same shopping center, created a group on VKontakte with an appeal to help, as he believed, an innocent mother who had lost her child. He also organized a fundraiser for a lawyer in Tunisia (it was believed that Natalya was facing the death penalty), the money was transferred to the account of Balandina's eldest daughter, Anna Mikhalchevskaya. As Benjamin wrote on the group's page, a lawyer in Tunisia asked for an advance payment of 3.5 thousand dollars. People began to transfer money - 300, 500 rubles each. After returning to Russia, Natalya did not speak with her former colleagues, friends and acquaintances who collected money for her, were looking for a lawyer and an interpreter. Gradually, facts began to leak out, testifying not in favor of Natalya - they began to say that she allegedly drank and could shout at her daughter in irritation, that she threatened to commit suicide, that she collected debts in the bank, that she was experiencing severe depression after the death of her mother ...

Natalya told the investigator that she was innocent of the murder of her daughter, - the lawyer Ketevan Baramia, who was present at the first interrogation of her client, told MK in St. Petersburg. - Her version is as follows: on the day of departure, she went with Nastya to the beach, her daughter froze and asked to go to the room to take a warm bath. A friend with whom they worked together in the salon, she borrowed 80 thousand. Moreover, the woman took out a loan for her at insane interest. Balandina paid it every other time. It is difficult to understand the logic of this family. For example, Natalia's ex-husband Sergei, when he flew to St. Petersburg, promised to avenge his ex for Nastenka.

And now it turns out that Sergei and Natalya live together. Balandina works with children either as a nanny or in an orphanage. The business woman no longer poses as herself.

Balandina let her daughter go, and she herself remained on the beach for another half hour. When the mother returned to the room, she found her dead daughter in the bathroom. She tried to lift her, but she did not succeed, then Balandina left the child in the bathroom, and she went back to the sea, as she claims, to drown herself. However, says Balandina, there were too many people at sea. The police detained her when she allegedly was looking for a deserted place.
Deadlock situation
Nastya was buried in the Kuban. Balandina was detained there on June 26. Accompanied by investigators, she was taken to St. Petersburg. And only interrogated.
They wanted to close it in the isolation ward, but the bet did not work. Now she is on her own recognizance, which the court renews her every ten days.
And without Tunisia's documents, the matter is at an impasse. Our detectives could not investigate in a foreign republic, they only went to the Kuban, carried out an examination of the murdered one again, talked with the strange relatives of Balandina. And that's all.
Due to international relations, the investigation will be seriously delayed, ”Aleksey Panzhev, the investigator for especially important cases, warned back in August last year. - The procedure was coordinated with Moscow. Within a week, a translation was made, then they decided through the Prosecutor General's Office. Then it was agreed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are waiting for Tunisia to give some answer on this matter. Either they will help us and provide materials, or they will allow us to come there. Only after they agree on this, it will be possible to study.
This conversation with the investigator was repeated with us every month. A year later, things are still there.
Our people blame Tunisia's sluggishness for everything, and they blame the Russian side for their rabidness.
She would have been with us already, ”says a source at the consulate. - For a month the room in that hotel was kept closed, we thought that your detectives would come. And now you won't find anything. After all, ours did not want to hang it on themselves, they were afraid of a scandal. The country is tourist. I even know that some testimony was “rekhtanuli”, only to send her to Russia. But the fact that the girl was strangled and put into a bathroom with water is for sure, ours had it in the examination report. And Nastya had dark hair in her fist, and there was skin and bruises under her nails. The body was found twisted in a fetal position.

In fact, the investigators only have an expert opinion on the violent nature of the death. The rest is emotions, you can't get them to the point. Although, it seems, and there was a motive. Almost before leaving, Natalya Balandina insured her daughter's life for thirty thousand euros. She had debts on loans in 7-8 banks. Therefore, the payment of insurance would not be superfluous for her.

We have this issue under control, - says the head of the consular department Rashid Atayev. - We received inquiries from the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General's Office. We sent this to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from there, respectively, to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But, according to the Foreign Ministry, there was no reaction from there.
And it is unlikely that there will be an answer in the future. Obviously, after an information attack by “these Russians”, they decided to simply bury the case together with little Nastenka. That was the calculation.

A strangled child in a hotel room with a lock of maternal hair clutched in a fist, a mother who, for some reason, sunbathed on the beach alone, the arrest of a woman and a month in a local prison, then completely removed! - charges against her, unexpected release.
Now the killer is still not found, a criminal case has been opened over the death of the child. Natalia herself came to the Kuban, where 8-year-old Nastya is buried in the small village of Zassovskaya. The return coincided with the commemoration - 40 days have passed since the girl's death.
At home, a woman in the circle of relatives. But before she had time to return to Russia, another misfortune fell on her. At the Moscow airport, Natalya fell unsuccessfully and broke her arm. Now her father, eldest daughter and son, relatives protect her in every possible way, do not allow journalists to approach her (“my mother is stressed, she cries all the time and cannot speak”).
