Hiking in the Caucasus

The decision to march in the Caucasus was made a long time ago, but it was still impossible to implement it. But, apparently, fate itself pushed us on such a trip. Once in Moscow we met with the same adventurers. So they told us how cool it is in the mountains, how beautiful and unforgettable they are. Their enthusiastic exclamations eventually became decisive, and the idea of "somehow making a tour of the Caucasus" turned into a real trip.

In general, now hiking in the Caucasus and any other interesting terrain has become very popular. Whole companies have been organized offering this type of tourism. And not only in Russia, but also in Europe and Asia.

Trekking in the Caucasus. general information

Why did you decide to make trekking in the Caucasus? We rested once on the Black Sea and went to the mountains on an excursion. Then this love overtook us. Majestic giants with tops crowned with snow caps, crystal clear lakes and turbulent rivers - how can you remain indifferent, seeing all this?

It was decided to make the first trips in the Caucasus together with an instructor and along an organized route. We chose medium difficulty. Low to us is useless, because we are tough nuts, but we are not ready for a difficult one (well, not so strong).

Our route ran along Elbrus and was full of passes and mountain rivers. He was very cool, but not cooler than us. In total, we walked for 9 days, covered 70 kilometers during this time, drank 40 liters of water per person and spent 12,000 on all. The price includes three meals a day, registration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, instructor services, general equipment, a first-aid kit, assistance in preparation.

Tours in the Caucasus for "dummies"

“Teapots” are us (don't be offended if you thought to yourself). But if you are a "novice beginner", here is a list of things you need to hike.

  • Sleeping bag. Everything is simple, a good bag is not cheap. Better take a demi-season (comfort temperature - 0).
  • Rug. Polyurethane. This is more important for mountain tourists than a passport (well, almost).
  • Backpack. It is better if it is 2 times bigger than you - just because of inexperience it will not be possible to fold things (but in fact - to cram) compactly.
  • Tent. This is your home, your fortress, your stronghold. Better all sorts of fancy ones with moisture resistance above 3000 mm and wind resistance. And insect protection. And also protection from crocodile, bear and aliens.
  • Trekking poles. These are the ones everyone laughs at. But this is actually a thing! Only when you go with them, you will find out what their charm is.
  • Boots (abruptly), sandals (for rest), fleece jacket - 1 piece, thermal underwear - 1 set, T-shirt - 2-3 pieces, socks - as much as you like (special trekking socks), hat - 1 piece, membrane jacket - 1 piece, "three foreign cameras, three domestic cigarette cases" (just kidding, just kidding).
  • Sunglasses, sun cream, headlamp, first aid kit, kitchen utensils, water bottle, hygiene kit.

Our route

The trip began with a meeting at the railway station in Nevinnomyssk. From here, in a minibus, we went to issue passes, and then rushed to the village of Khurzuk, from where the start was scheduled. After 4 kilometers we set up camp and fell asleep. “Nonsense,” we thought. The next day we climbed the pass along the Yenikol river. It was not easy to climb, but the view of Elbrus was so powerful and magnificent that there was a desire to stay here to live. Right on the pass.

"Hiking" - from the word "walk", so we continued the "easy walk" across the Caucasus with an ascent to the Chemart pass, 3132 meters above sea level, my dears. Then Buruntash. The titles, by the way, are so cool that we wrote them down on purpose, so that we could be smart later. After that they went down to the river valley, and then ended up in the kingdom of gophers on the Irakhitsyrt plateau, on the Sultan waterfall and the Dzhily-Su mineral spring. Further - everything is in a fog. Passes, rivers, mountains. Finish - the village of Verkhniy Baksan.

How cool it was! Throw away all your business - and go hiking! It doesn't matter where, even in the Urals, even in the Caucasus, even in Tibet.

"Pull the guy to the mountains - take a chance,

Don't leave him alone.

Let him be in tandem in one with you,

There you will understand who he is. "
