In this article I will tell you how to get to Sentosa in Singapore, and a detailed story and useful information about the Sentosa island itself.

Near the entrance to the popular Universal Studios amusement park in Sentosa

On the mainland next to the island there is Harbor Front metro station. All routes to the island (except for the road 🙂) start from this metro station. Read about the metro in Singapore.

How to get to Sentosa

1. Cable car to Sentosa Mount Faber Line

The Mount Faber Line cable car circles from the metro station: Harbor Front - Mount Faber - Harbor Front - Sentosa - Harbor Front. At each station, you can get off, walk and drive on. You can also start your journey in the opposite direction, i.e. from the island of Sentosa.

Cable car to Sentosa

Mount Faber Line Circle Cost: SGD 33 adult ticket and SGD 22 child ticket.

Opening hours of the cable car to Sentosa: 8:45 am to 10:00 pm (last boarding at 9:30 pm).

How to find: leave the Harbor Front metro and follow the signs to Cable Car station, go through the Harbor Front shopping center, a little down the street and get to ticket offices, buy a ticket, take the elevator to the 15th floor and take the cable car to Sentosis.

Important. In addition to the large cable car Mount Faber Line, there is a small cable car on Sentosa Island - the Sentosa Line, which consists of three stations and connects the large cable car station with the Merlion and the beach.

Cost of the Sentosa Line cable car: 15 SGD adult ticket and 10 SGD child ticket.

The cost of an integrated ticket for the two cable cars Mount Faber Line and Sentosa Line: 35 SGD adult ticket and 25 SGD child ticket.

Sentosa Cable Car Schematic Map

Despite the fact that there are magnificent views from the cable car in Singapore, we decided to skip this attraction, we have already rode the cable car more than once in, and in, and on, and on 🙂 and I still hoped to make it back in Singapore visit, the views from which are much cooler 🙂

2. Monorail Sentosa Express to Sentosa and around the island

Sentosa can be reached by monorail - Sentosa Express. The Sentosa Express monorail station on the mainland is at VivoCity, Lobby L, Level 3 (easy to find with signs).

There are 3 monorail stations on Sentosa Island:

  • Waterfront Station (if your goal is Universal Studios Singapore amusement park, then get off here)
  • Imbiah Station (near the statue of Merlion)
  • Beach Station (near the beach)

There used to be a monorail around the island, now it is gone.

Opening hours: from 7:00 to 10:00 on weekdays and until 24:00 from Friday to Sunday.

3. Walking to Sentosa

You can get to Sentosa on foot. But don't worry, it’s not long When I read that you can walk across the bridge to Sentosa, I imagined a long, long bridge from the mainland to the island, and when I told Lesha that we would go to Sentosa on foot, he was horrified 🙂 In fact, the island is very close and it takes 10-15 minutes to walk!

You need to get to the Harbor Front metro station, and then follow the signs for Sentosa Board Walk through the VivoCity shopping center.

There are moving escalators on the bridge, so the whole journey is easy.

4. By car or taxi

You can get to Sentosa by car or by taxi over the road bridge. To enter the island, you will have to pay from 2 SGD per car + pay for parking.

How to get to Sentosa is up to you. We decided to go to the island on foot (not because of saving money, it was just interesting to walk along the bridge and take pictures of the views), and when we returned in the evening we were already so tired that we decided to take the monorail. Although the night illumination of the city and the island from the bridge looks tempting 🙂

Morning leisurely walk across the bridge from the metro to Sentosa. Almost came 🙂

By the way, at seven o'clock in the evening there are huge queues for the cable car and the monorail! We were in no hurry, watched the Crane Show at 20:00, then had a delicious dim sum dinner in a restaurant and, without any crowd, left Sentosa on the monorail at half past nine in the evening.

Attractions of Sentosa. The most important and interesting sights of Sentosa are photos and videos, descriptions and reviews, location, sites.

  • Tours for May around the world
  • Last Minute Tours around the world

All All Architecture Museums Nature Entertainment

  • Once known by the unattractive name "The Island After Death" and then the center of the failed British project "Fortress Singapore", today Sentosa is the country's main playground and entertainment center. The whole island has been turned into one big tourist attraction. Moreover, it is popular not only among foreigners, but even more so among local residents - as an option for an easily accessible (in terms of road) vacation for one day. Not only is it full of attractions, and very large-caliber, but there are also plenty of beaches.

One of Sentosa's newest tourist attractions is the abnormally large Resorts World, which includes hotels, Universal Studios, Singapore's first casino and giant shopping malls.

To the south of the island lie the small islets of Kusu, Saint John, Sestra and Pulau Hantu islands. They are all also managed by the Sentosa administration. There is nothing special, but if they wish, tourists can swim there too: there is a public ferry to the first two.

Singaporean jokers decipher the name Sentosa as an abbreviation, which in translation means: "so expensive, but in fact there is nothing to watch." This is only partially true.

Many tourists come across the first attraction of Sentosa before reaching the island itself. This is a funicular that runs between Sentosa, the harbor and Mount Faber. It was completely renovated and opened to the public in 2010. The round-trip ticket costs a lot, so if you want to save money it is better to go by bus - however, of course, you will not get that pleasure.

Singaporean jokers decipher the name Sentosa as an abbreviation, which in translation means: "so expensive, but in fact there is nothing to watch." This is only partially true: most of Sentosa's attractions have been renovated in recent years, the most meaningless ones have been dismantled. But still, there is much more interesting here for children than for adults.

Sentosa itself is open to the public all year round, around the clock, although different attractions may operate at different times.

The observation tower "Tiger Sky Tower" is located near the cable car stop (in fact, at an altitude of more than 100 m, you will hardly notice it). At the time of construction, it became the tallest in all of Asia. The tower offers a panoramic view of Sentosa, Singapore, the South Islands and even, if you're lucky with the clouds, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Fort Siloso will be of interest primarily to history buffs. And not even so much history as weapons. All former British buildings on the territory of this artillery battery are open for inspection, and all kinds of guns, cannons, machine guns, etc. from various other Singapore forts were brought to the fort. Mannequins in uniform, placed everywhere in the territory, clearly show how everything happened here.

The famous symbol, the Merlion, is also found on Sentosa. This is a 37-meter version of the statue that can be seen on the Singapore River and is illuminated in the evenings, although it does not emit laser beams, which is what many would expect. Paying the entrance fee, you can take the elevator up to his mouth and look at the port from there, as well as admire the rather strange exhibitions below.

The first casino in Singapore is located on Sentosa, in the Resorts World complex. There are 500 gambling tables that play 19 different games, but the focus is on Asian favorites such as baccarat, roulette, tai sai and pay gau. To the delight (but not the fact that luckily) tourists, the entrance for foreigners to the casino is free.

On the island of Kusu, which can be reached from Sentosa by ferry, it is not as interesting as on Sentosa itself, but there are a couple of unusual places here. Firstly, the name of the island (it translates as "Turtle") fully justifies the numerous reptiles crawling everywhere. Secondly, there is a Taoist temple Do-Bogong, dedicated to the deity of commerce, where people come to pray for financial well-being. Thirdly, there is also an unusual Muslim sanctuary (not a mosque) Keramat, which stands on a small hill, dedicated to Saint Abdul Rahman, who lived here in the 19th century, and mostly childless couples come here to pray.

  • Sentosa or Sentosa Island - one of the islands of Singapore, with a sonorous, vivid and memorable name... An unusually popular place among tourists, about 5 million people come here to relax every year. The island has made a dizzying "career" - from the gloomy and eerie during the Second World War to the island-holiday, the island of a fairy tale, from which one does not want to leave. There are so many attractions and entertainment that it is impossible to get around them all even in a week, and the impressions from them will be enough for several years to come.

The island received its current name Sentosa in 1972. Translated into Russian, it means "land of tranquility."

If you decide not to stay at one of the beach hotels in Sentosa, then you can easily get here from Singapore - there are many ways, everyone can choose the most suitable for themselves:

    • by taxi - no comments here, any taxi driver will take you to your destination without questions
    • by train - get to the HarbourFront metro station. Find exit E to VivoCity, go to 3rd level to Sentosa Express
    • By Bus - Take Sentosa Gateway down left to Resorts World Sentosa Car Park. There you will see a tunnel to Cars / Taxis. Find the B1 East sign and follow the Universal Studios signs at Level 1
    • by funicular - get to the HarbourFront metro station. Find Exit B. Follow the signs for the Singapore Cable Car. Round trip cost including entrance tickets to Sentosa 29S $ adults and 18S $ children
    • On foot - about 500 meters across the bridge from the same HarbourFront metro station

But to get the maximum experience, it is worth getting there by air - the funicular - the Singapore cable car - will help you with this. This is the most expensive method, but you should use it at least once.

    Cable car

From the island of Singapore, the cable car to Sentosa is one of the most breathtaking entertainment, one of the attractions. The route passes at a dizzying height, from which you can see the whole district, the islands of Malaysia and Indonesia, the ocean, amusement parks. Everything is completely convenient and completely safe, because the cable car in Singapore is comfortable cabins for 8 people, which are securely closed, it is simply impossible to fall out of them. They offer a magnificent view that enchants and delights.

There are 4 stops on the cable car in Singapore and the final The Jewel Box Station, on Mount Faber. Despite the high cost of the trip, millions of tourists use it, and cable car cabins in Singapore are rarely empty. The cable car is open all year round, from 8.45 am to 10 pm. If you just need to move to the other side of the bay, you don't have to go all the way, you can take Harbor Front Station, this funicular station is next to the metro.

The ticket costs $ 25 for an adult and $ 14 for a child 3-12 years old, children under 3 years old are free. This price also includes a ticket to the island.

On Friday and Saturday, there is also the option to have a romantic “heavenly” dinner for two on the cable car for SGD 120

    other methods

Monorail (Sentosa Express) - it starts at the station of the same name, next to the MRT Harbor Front metro station. In total, the monorail makes three stops, the fare is the same for everyone - 3.5 Singapore dollars. It works from 7 am to midnight. This way to get to Sentosa in Singapore is also convenient because the ticket price includes entrance to the island.

The conveyor pedestrian path is a covered self-propelled path that will take you to the island, this pleasure costs only $ 1

Walking across the bridge is the cheapest way, of course. In addition, there are also buses and taxis. Almost no one uses water transport, it is impractical, because the island of Sentosa is located just 500 meters from Singapore.

If you decide to get to the island by your own car, you will have to leave it in the parking lot - only ecological transport drives on the island, there is a special warning about this on the amusement park's website.

Well, another option for getting to Sentosa from Singapore is by swimming. But why, if there are convenient overland options!

    Moving around the island

The territory of Sentosa Island is quite small, only 3 km of the embankment, but buses and other transport run along it. Those who do not like walking can take advantage of them. All transport within the island is free, this also applies to the monorail, but only within the island.

At the same time, walking will save a lot of time, and walking around the entertainment island is a pleasure - there are a lot of beautiful fountains, exotic trees, shady paths, unusual sculptures and many, many attractions. You can just walk around the island in one day, but in order to see everything, it will take much more time, because it is very interesting and full of life and sights.

The island has many different cafes, restaurants and fast foods for every taste and every budget. And here you can also enjoy the juice of a unique fruit - durian.

Here you can arrange for yourself a relatively cheap vacation, because Sentosa Island does not hide its attractions, and access to most of them is completely free or budgetary.

    Singapore Symbol - The Merlion

What is needed to safeguard the prosperity of Singapore? Perhaps a mythical creature, namely the legendary Merlion. Half lion, half fish, he has guarded the city for many years. According to legend, Merlion fought the raging elements on Sentosa Island for many days and was able to tame the winds. Today, many sculptures are erected in his honor on the island, and a 37-meter statue rises on Sentosa. It is also an observation deck offering a delightful view of the sea, beaches and ships in the roadstead.

    Attraction Skyline Luge Sentosa

One of the most popular entertainment on the island. Lovers of speed can "fly" over the island on a funicular, and then leave the mountain-track on a special sled. Who among us did not like sledding as a child? There is no such thing! Just imagine that you are on the longest toboggan slide you could dream of, more than 1 km long. Moreover, you can ride not only during the day, but also in the moonlight, when the paths are illuminated with special lights, which fascinates and gives the jungle mysticism and mystery. The only thing we must warn about is that children at least 85 cm and accompanied by adults can ride on the lift, and children below 110 cm are prohibited from driving the sled on their own.

Its tunnels house interactive displays, as well as cannons and other weapons; the exposition tells about the history of the fort - from its construction to its fall. The "underwater world" of Sentosa includes Dolphin Lagoon (Dolphin Lagoon; open daily 10.30-18.00) to Palawan Beach. Here you can watch a show of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, also called pink because of their unique coloration. We also recommend visiting a reflexology center, where you will be offered to lower your feet into a pool of warm water, in which fish swim: they, by pinching off, will remove all dead skin from your feet. (open: daily 10.00-19.00, tel .: 6279-92-29, by appointment).

Sentosa is also famous for its beaches, and above all Palawan Beach (Palawan Beach) and Silo Beach (Siloso Beach) with soft, clean sand, great bars and canoe, catamarans and windsurfing rental.

On Siloso Beach you can see the extravagant multimedia show "Songs of the Sea" (paid), the concept of which belongs to the famous designer Yves Pepin. The show literally dazzles the audience with its brilliance every evening at 19.40 and 20.40. Actors perform among the shooting fountains of water, illuminated by multi-colored lasers and repeating the musical rhythm.
