Museum-estate Ostankino - the memory of centuries

The Ostankino Estate is a museum unique not only for Moscow, but also for Russia. It is here that you can personally contemplate the luxury of ancient interiors, miraculously surviving to this day. I can recommend it for visiting not only for connoisseurs of decorative arts, but also for everyone, because this amazing palace can amaze even the most sophisticated tourist.

Ostankino Museum

Although it bears the name "estate", in fact it is the Ostankino Museum, which can be proud of its really well-preserved palace and old church of the 17th century. Sheremetyev believed that his country house in the Moscow region was an admirable deed and his greatest deed. The palace was built for more than a year; many outstanding artists and architects worked on it. Initially, the Ostankino Museum was not located in Moscow - there were several kilometers from its borders to the capital. The region was not famous for its natural beauties, and until now it is surrounded only by the prosaic plain, slightly ennobled by the garden that has now lost its grandeur. The contrast with the poor landscapes further emphasizes the charm of the estate museum in Ostankino.

How to get there?

The Ostankino Estate Museum is located next to the park of the same name and you can get there by any transport that goes to it and to the TV center. It is quite easy to navigate the TV center - behind it is the 1st Ostankinskaya, from where it is easy to get out to the famous estate. About public transport:

  • The metro is the closest to VDNKh, but it is a couple of stops from the architectural monument.
  • Tram - the park has a ring of three routes at once - 11, 17 and 25. It is very easy to get them, you just need to go to the final one.
  • Buses - routes 76 and 803 stop at the park, they stop almost at the park gate. One block from Ostankino Park, where the museum is located, according to Academician Korolev, there are also 24 and 24k, 85 and T9.
  • Minibuses - minibuses do not run on 1st Ostankinskaya. But at the TV center you can find transport of four routes at once - 24m, 61m, 311m and 379m.
  • Trolleybuses - again, only along the Queen. Routes 36, 37 and 73 stop here.

The transport interchange is not bad, it is also convenient by car - through Prospekt Mira, Novomoskovskaya or Botanicheskaya you can drive to the museum from any side of the capital.

What to see?

First of all, I advise you to pay attention to the interiors. It is difficult to imagine how they survived so many centuries, and how until now, during numerous wars, vandals have not plundered the old manor. But the building made of wood has outlived many dozen of its stone counterparts and still fascinates visitors. The beauty and luxury of the Russian character of the times of the Empire is embodied inside.

The Ostankino Museum does not try to play with simplicity, like other boyar estates, it balances on the verge of saturation and excess. The eye doesn't even know which bas-relief to grab onto. The central complex is made in the style of classicism, it is pretentious and lush, bright and multifaceted. The side cases are made in a slightly different style, leaving chic in the name of elegance and noble simplicity. The main advantage is the reason for the fame of the Ostankino Museum in Moscow and beyond, hidden inside the walls - amazing interiors. Each room is different: the Green Living Room with its amazing ceilings, the Egyptian Hall adorned with ancient Greek sculptures and sphinxes, the dazzling beauty of the theater hall and the graceful modesty of the art gallery. But all the luxury and wealth of the courtiers of the 18th century, the Ostankino estate museum hid in the reception hall. An oversaturated, bright and shining beauty conquers with an unusual generosity of charms.

A spoon of tar

Unfortunately, today the Ostankino Estate Museum is under restoration. Even the official website does not provide information on when the restoration work can be completed. From previous excursions, I can say that restoration, of course, is a necessary thing, there the roof was leaking, and the new paint held up worse than the old one. But judging by the pace of restoration, oh, the Ostankino estate museum will not be reopened soon. The official website says that now it must go through the most active stage of restoration.
