Submarine "Narodovolets" in St. Petersburg: impressions

Traveling around St. Petersburg, I could not pass by the famous submarine D-2 "Narodovolets". After a long military journey, she found her refuge in a museum composition, and everyone can view it.This vessel is one of the first built during the Soviet era. Its chief designer was B. M. Malinin, and she belonged to the first series.

I was surprised by the long service life of this firstborn of the deep-sea fleet of the Soviet Union. The exhibit representing the memorial complex Submarine D-2 Narodovolets was launched in 1927 and served in the Baltic Fleet until 1987.

This ship could reach speeds of up to 15 knots above water, and when submerged - 9 knots. A crew of 53 people set off for the voyage, the length of the vessel was 76.6 m. The submarine D-2 "Narodovolets" sank to a depth of 90 meters.

At its time, it was a fairly powerful armed floating vehicle. It was equipped with 8 devices that shoot torpedoes using compressed air. In addition, there were 2 102 mm artillery pieces. However, later one of them was replaced by a semi-automatic 45 mm.

Museum "Submarine D-2" Narodovolets "allows anyone to see all the internal parts. There are seven compartments in total:

  • bow torpedo and sailor quarters;
  • compartment with radio station;
  • battery, it also houses the officers' quarters, a galley and a latrine;
  • ship control center;
  • a department with oil tanks and additional accumulators, it also housed the living quarters of the foremen;
  • diesel, providing movement on the surface;
  • diesel, providing movement in a submerged position.

In 1933, the submarine, code-named D-2 "Narodovolets", was transferred to the Northern Military Flotilla. The Great Patriotic War found the ship in Leningrad for repairs and modernization.In total, four successful military campaigns were carried out, in which the crew sank several enemy ships. After the end of the war, the submarine served for training purposes.

In 1989, the museum of the submarine D-2 "Narodovolets" began its work. There you can get acquainted with the expositions dedicated to the history of the ship, as well as to other submariners of the Second World War.

Memorial complex of the Navy "Submarine D-2" Narodovolets "

The attraction is located at Shkipersky Protok, 10. You can visit it on any day except Monday, Tuesday and the last Thursday of each month. Opening hours from 11 to 18 hours.

My visit to the composition "Submarine" Narodovolets "in the city of St. Petersburg" cost me 300 rubles. I would like to advise you to take your passport with you for visiting. Otherwise, the ticket will cost 500 rubles.

The museum itself pleased with its exhibits, various expositions of weapons, parts of submarines, combat medals of sailors and designers were exhibited. From here there is a transition to the D-6 itself. I was amazed by the inner submarine walk. The imagination itself painted the life of the submariners of that time, and placed mannequins helped him in this.

I want to advise girls not to wear long skirts and high heels. Otherwise, it will be problematic to move between compartments and climb stairs. But in general, I am glad that everything can be touched and twisted. All the guides are former military submariners, so they can tell a lot more interesting than civilians. For a complete impression, a film about the history of the presented submarine is shown in the museum.

Shoppers can visit the large exhibition center "Lenexpo", located very close. In addition, there is a passenger sea terminal nearby. If you wish, you can take a trip to the Baltic Sea from here.

In general, this place is a must-see for every traveler who comes to St. Petersburg. After all, this is our story, and just interesting.
