"Green Belt of Glory of Leningrad": monuments

According to historical reports, we can safely say that the battle for the second capital of the Union lasted from 1941 to 1944. In honor of the defenders of the Northern capital who gave their lives, a whole complex was erected, called the "Green Belt of Glory" (1965-1968). The initiative to create this composition belonged to the front-line writer Mikhail Dudin. The very idea came to him when he worked on the peace committee in the capital. Dudin is considered the author of the inscriptions that were made on the propylae near the entrance to the Piskarevskoye cemetery, including on the very monument to the heroically perished defenders.

"Green Belt of Glory of Leningrad": monuments

I would like to note for those who are going to come to St. Petersburg to see everything with their own eyes that the "Green Belt of Leningrad Glory" includes many military cemeteries and burial places, as well as samples of all kinds of military equipment and memorial buildings. I will list the main objects that are included in the Kirov Val Green Belt of Glory.

  • Monument in memory of children, named "Flower of Life". I am amazed when I come to see the "Flower of Life" again. Looking at him, you think about those children who are no longer there. Unfortunately, you cannot return them. Guests who come here stand near the monument and are simply silent. The monument is located on the 3rd kilometer of the Road of Life.
  • On the Kirovsky shaft of the Green Belt of Glory there is another object called "Rumbolovskaya Mountain", made on the Rumbolovskoe heights, or more precisely, in Vsevolozhsk.
  • Katyusha. If my memory serves me, even though I am already a woman of age, then Katyusha is located in the Vsevolozhsk region, in a village called Kornevo, not far from the Rakhya railway station.
  • The "Green Belt of Glory of the City of Leningrad" is famous for the stele in honor of the pontoon warriors who ensured the connection between the capital and the country in 1943.
  • Monument to the railway workers who provided the transportation of various goods in the blockade territory.

Personal opinion and impressions

Of course, the "Green Belt of Glory of Leningrad" has very beautiful monuments, it is simply impossible to list all of them. Beauty and uniqueness evoke feelings of respect, pride for those people who, unfortunately, fell in battles, said goodbye to life, defending their small homeland.

The Green Belt of Heroic Glory will be popular with travelers for a long time, because this is our story. This place is divided into several sections, but I would like to focus on one memorial that struck me the most - Kirovsky Val, Green Belt of Glory. As a child, my mother took me to these places: for our family, as, probably, for all our compatriots, the bloody battles of World War II turned into a personal tragedy. Mom did not know her father, whose life was cut short in one of the battles. Therefore, the memorial sites of the Great Patriotic War from the earliest years were of particular importance to me. Even then, here I had some incomprehensible (for a child) sensations: grief and reverence for those who laid down their heads for our future. Here you feel somehow differently, you think about being.

And finally

The monument can be found at the address: Leningrad Region, Vsevolozhsky District, Kornevo village. Rahja railway station is nearby. I hope my short story on behalf of a curious amateur local historian will help connoisseurs of history understand what to look here first of all and how to get here. Believe me, you will have an indelible impression, and you will return to these places again.
