Where to go to Mexico for a beach vacation. Where is the best place to relax in Mexico. Dangerous and non-tourist areas

Picturesque and bright, hot and cheerful, this overseas country may seem to a Russian tourist not the most successful place for a beach holiday. Even a direct flight will take at least 13 hours! But if the vacation program includes visits to attractions of world importance, which, without a doubt, are the ancient cities of the Maya and Chichen Itza Indians, the remoteness of Mexican beaches will cease to seem an insurmountable obstacle.
By the way, the beaches themselves are a landmark of a planetary scale. They have long and firmly been in the top of the most beautiful in the world, as evidenced by hundreds of photos and numerous reviews of enthusiastic tourists on all possible forums for travelers.

Where to go to sunbathe?

Washed by two oceans, Mexico offers its guests a vacation both on the Atlantic and on the Pacific coast. Russian travelers prefer the east, which can be reached on Aeroflot's wings with a direct flight. American and European tourists sunbathe in the Pacific Ocean with success.
Atlantic resorts stretch from north to south of the Yucatan Peninsula:

  • Cancun is the largest, most popular, famous and suitable for recreation for both children and adults. Diverse infrastructure, many hotels both in the resort area and in the city, a colorful world of entertainment and opportunities for excursions to ancient architectural monuments are the main advantages of the resort, whose beaches are invariably included in the list of the most beautiful in the world.
  • The Riviera Maya with the main resort is more popular with those who love informal youth parties and love to spend time in amusement parks, in a large number of open nearby.
  • Tulum attracts those who prefer to stay in a bungalow right on the sand, are content with a simple shower and cannot imagine their vacation without sunrises on the beach.
  • The Island of Women or Isla Mujeres is an ideal resort for fans of some detachment from the big civilization. Located half an hour on a comfortable ferry from Cancun, this island is especially popular with bohemians and couples in love.
  • Cozumel is another island where divers prefer to have the perfect beach vacation in Mexico. Almost all of its territory is occupied by a national park, and therefore fans of ecotourism will also find a lot of exciting activities here.

The Pacific beaches of Mexico are the good old ones, which thundered all over the world with their incendiary parties in the middle of the last century and have not lost their charm to this day, respectable and loved by active travelers.

Weather features of a beach holiday in Mexico

When choosing a resort where it is better to relax in Mexico, do not neglect the weather forecast. It is believed that the best time to book a tour is spring, when the heat does not bother tourists too much, and the humidity is minimal until the rainy season.
Throughout the year, the air temperature in Acapulco hovers around + 30 ° C. The wettest season is from June to October, slight precipitation is possible in May and November.
The mild maritime climate on the Yucatan Peninsula guarantees a comfortable beach holiday in Mexico on the Caribbean coast, regardless of the season. The rainy season starts in May and lasts until the end of autumn, but rainfall usually falls in the late afternoon and does not interfere with sunbathing and swimming most of the time. The air warms up to + 28 ° С in January, and up to + 35 ° С in July. The driest month is April.

Night capital

This is the unofficial name for Acapulco, the city of casinos and disco clubs, where all those for whom beach vacations do not exist without nightlife and entertainment continue to strive.
Unfortunately, the hotel fund at the resort is a little outdated and has not been significantly updated since the middle of the last century. But this does not serve as an obstacle for the lucky ones, who come to the room only in the morning, so that, taking a swimsuit, go to the beach to meet new adventures.
Prices for hotels in Acapulco can be found quite affordable.
The best beaches for families are concentrated in the Old Town area in the western part of the bay. They are ideal for bathing babies: the gentle entrance to the sea and the absence of large waves ensure a safe rest for young tourists.

Active and athletic

The island of Cozumel attracts travelers for whom diving and surfing have long become synonymous with the word "vacation". The rocky eastern shores of the island and strong winds create ideal conditions for big waves here, but lovers of "seal" rest on the sand can find small beaches equipped for comfortable sunbathing.
Divers do not care much about such subtleties, because the coastal waters have such a rich underwater world that fans of diving come to land only in the evening. The coral reefs and tunnels around the island are considered some of the best in Mexico, and an attractive site for both the novice and experienced diver can find here.

Overlooking the pyramids

Have a beach holiday in Mexico right at the foot of the gray pyramids? It couldn't be easier, just go to Tulum. The beaches of this resort stretch for more than 20 km along the Caribbean Sea, but the most popular among them is located in the place where the Mayan pyramids were built right on the coast.
After visiting the archaeological site with many architectural masterpieces of the ancient people, you can go down the hill to the seashore and sunbathe on the white sand right under the ancient pyramids.
Romantics and lovers of solitude prefer to stay at beaches far from the city. Hotels are bungalows right on the sand of varying degrees of comfort. Those who love to hang out choose hotels in the center of the resort and spend their evenings in city restaurants with a glass of tequila or a glass of the famous Mexican beer "Corona", tasting fajitos, burritos and other guacamole to their best.

Mexico is attractive for its beaches of amazing beauty. Outdoor activities, underwater and water sports, family picnics, savage holidays, mysterious ruins and breathtaking landscapes are what can be seen on the Mexican coast. Half a thousand unique beaches are located along the coastline washed by the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of California.

The uniqueness of the choice of a beach in Mexico for a suitable holiday lies in the fact that they are all very diverse due to the unique natural reliefs and rock formations. Some beaches are remote and surrounded by luscious green jungle and ancient ruins of local tribes, others are endless sandy shores with soft sand and calm waters ideal for swimming, and there are also “secret” beaches ideal for outdoor activities such as surfing, diving. and snorkeling.

Tulum beaches

Known for the rich history of the ancient Mayan tribe, it attracts many lovers of antiquities. The remains of the ruins found here from their buildings dating back to the 13th century create a special natural relief of these places. Tulum's beaches are the perfect destination for all history buffs. It is not difficult to get here, because from the popular resort of Cancun, the road takes only 2 hours.

The shore of the beach is white soft sand. Here you can take refuge in the shade, as there are numerous palm trees growing under the edge of the beach. Near the beach, on the shore, there are natural freshwater castro lakes where you can cool off after the salty sea waters. Comfortable hotels are built on the first line of the coast, where you can book accommodation.

If vacationers want to truly relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, Tulum and its beaches are a great place for a secluded getaway.

Akumal beach

Akumal Beach is a great place to meet sea turtles. The name of the beach translates as "turtle place". The fact is that the beach is a favorite spot for sea turtles that come ashore and lay their eggs. Scuba diving at Akumal Beach is a must-see for scuba diving enthusiasts and exploring coral reefs and their inhabitants.

Akumal Beach is ideal for relaxing with little ones, as the shore and the bottom are clean and not rocky, and you can easily find a secluded spot here, even on weekends.

The beach is located just 5 km south of Zihuatanejo. This white sand beach is named after the mustachioed nurse sharks that have long lived in these waters.

It is not so easy to get here, which is why this beach is a favorite destination for those looking for little-known attractions and places to stay. There are only two to get here. Vacationers savage most often choose the route of the winding, steep path that descends to the beach.

Those who have a rest in comfort can rent a motor boat. Diving enthusiasts can go diving in the rocks off the coast of the bay.

For those hungry, there are several restaurants on the beach that serve delicious seafood. The best shrimp can be found in the restaurant - Otilia. Local attractions include the lighthouse next to the beach, which offers spectacular views of the coastline and cliffs.

Cancun's world famous beaches

The most popular destination is Cancun Beach. The 22.5 km long beach is an unspoiled strip of white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters. For the Mayan tribes, this place was a part of life and worship of mysterious gods. Numerous ancient buildings that have become famous landmarks allow us to come to this conclusion.

Away from the beach, there is an amazing coral reef that is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Vacationers can also go kayaking, fishing or kayaking.

The coastline is lined with attractive hotels, and the hotels have several restaurants with outdoor terraces where visitors can sample a variety of Mexican cuisine. Cancun Beach can be compared to Las Vegas stretching along the beach due to the huge number of entertainment, resorts and luxury hotels.

The beaches of Puerto Vallarta Beach

This place has an ideal tropical climate. For a fun all day on the beach, Puerto Vallarta offers a variety of water activities:

  • boat trips;
  • swimming with a mask and a snorkel;
  • yachting;
  • fishing.

The protected bays are ideal for scuba diving, while deep sea fishing and whale watching is an unforgettable vacation experience.

Coming here means getting the perfect vacation, because you can get to know a new city, explore its identity and relax in pure nature.

The fabulous Playa Norte beach on the island of women

The main beach on the island is Playa Norte. It is famous for its clear waters and shiny white sand.

Families with children love this beach because its waters are calm and the bottom is clean, which allows them to relax safely without injury. Vacationers will find a wide variety of restaurants, beach bars and accommodation options in this resort area.

Playa Norte is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches, but it gets very crowded on weekends. Therefore, the recommended time to visit is early morning and weekdays.

Xpu Ha Beach is a unique gem of the Mayan Riviera. It is located south of Puerto Aventuras and attracts mostly locals. This amazing beach is not overcrowded even during the high tourist season, making it an ideal destination for travelers hoping to find peace and quiet during their summer holidays.

Regular yoga classes are held on the beach. Also, everyone who wants to spend time actively can join the game of football or beach volleyball with the locals on the beach. Water sports are also popular here, including fishing, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving.

For those looking for a bite to eat, local vendors trade on the beach offering refreshing drinks and seafood.

Zipolite beach for hippie travelers

Zipolite

Zipolite was a favorite destination for hippies from the 1960s to the 1980s. It was a center for recreation, fun and a variety of youth activities. Hippie travelers from all over the world came here. This beach was also one of the first wilderness recreation, camping and tent cities. Also, nudists loved to relax here.

Today, Zipolite Beach attracts fewer hippies, but still everyone who loves yoga and surfing still gathers here.

There are budget hotels on the beachfront where you can relax on a modest budget, but there are also some luxury hotels and trendy restaurants in the western part.

Famous Playa del Amor

Playa del Amor is one of the most famous beaches in Mexico. It can be easily reached by boat from the marina in Cabo San Lucas.

Playa del Amor is also known as "Lover's Beach" because of its romantic setting.

The beach is subject to frequent Pacific tides, so it is recommended to enter the water only in the Bahia de Cabo San Lucas area. The Cortese side of Playa del Amor is ideal for scuba diving and attracts mainly locals and diving enthusiasts. Although it is not easy to get here, the relaxation and experience of this pleasant and cozy beach is definitely worth the effort.

Perfect beach for swimming Playa de Tecolote

One of the busiest beaches in La Paz is Playa de Tecolote. It is an ideal swimming beach. It offers stunning views of the uninhabited island of Espirito Santo.

Local vendors on the beach offer specialties such as marlin en escabeche and chocolate clams.

While Playa de Tecolot may not be as popular as the nearby Balandra Beach, it provides its own unique beach experience. Basic amenities can be found here, including showers and toilets. If you want to order a full dinner, you can go to the El Tecolote bar-restaurant, where you can order an extensive menu of fresh seafood and delicious dishes from them.

Bahia Balandra

The beach is located in the Baja La Paz region, known for its rocky terrain. The largest rock is called Diamond Rock. The beach is protected by a natural bay from all sides, which makes the sea waters around it completely safe, and the underwater reefs are attractive for many underwater inhabitants. Therefore, snorkelers can spend an unforgettable time here.

Although the waters of Bahina Balandra belong to the cold Pacific current, the water warms up well thanks to direct sunlight. Therefore, in shallow water and on the surface, it is ideal for a comfortable swim.

There are no beach facilities on the shore, making Bahía Balandra a less crowded beach than its neighbors. Therefore, here you can find a calm and quiet rest on the river, far from the noisy fun.

One of the best beaches on the Mayan Riviera is Playa Maroma. According to polls, this beach is one of the ten best beaches in the world.

The beachfront stretches for 6 km and is part of the Catalonia all-inclusive resort. Gentle waters and fine soft sand give a comfortable rest and the opportunity to completely relax and plunge into relaxation. The beach is perfect for swimming and looks just as beautiful as if it came off the pages of glossy magazines.

The only downside to Playa Maroma is the lack of budget accommodation options. Only luxury villas and boutique hotels can be found here.

Ziggy Beach

The resort is located in the Riviera Maya - it is a very popular place for both party lovers and those who wish to get to know nature better. The underwater reef is home to hundreds of species of fish and arthropods. It is this colorful and diverse flora and fauna that attracts those who want to learn about what is hidden under the surface of the gentle waters.

The coast is divided into two separate beach sections. One site belongs to the beach club - Ziggy Beach Club, while the other part of the beach is open to the public.

Ziggy Beach is also famous for its many water sports:

  • padding;
  • kayaking;
  • sailing;
  • water skiing.

The beach has a well-developed infrastructure:

  • shops for renting sports equipment;
  • a cafe;
  • boutiques;
  • restaurants;
  • night club.

This is a sandy and limestone beach, so it is not very comfortable to walk here with bare feet. Due to the fact that you need to walk on the beach in shoes, many vacationers tend to avoid this place. That is why there are quite a few people here.

However, for those who are not looking for easy ways and do not feel the inconvenience of having to take shoes with them, the beach opens up its attractive sides and is ready to give an unforgettable experience.

The fascinating coral garden is a real paradise for scuba divers and snorkelers. Paamul Beach has several bars, shops and restaurants, as well as a public swimming pool, for those who want to cool off in the fresh water and escape the unpleasant, prickly sand for many.

Isla Holbek

Isla Holbox is a small island located just three hours from Cancun. Some call this place the Yutakan Peninsula's most mysterious secret due to its deserted beaches, laid-back atmosphere and shallow waters.

There are not many ways to get here, and the island itself has yet to be heavily exploited commercially. This is surely great news for visitors looking for an unforgettable experience in this unspoiled place of peace and quiet. Most of the beaches on the island are ideal for swimming in calm waters. The sandy beach with cute shells creates an unusual natural landscape.

Therefore, all connoisseurs of quiet rest or those wishing to rest in tents can experience the charm of these places and majestic landscapes.

Holidays in Mexico are always bright, lively and very noisy. The colorful culture of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations with their bloody legends and pyramids, colonial architecture in its grace and grace, excellent beaches with clean sand and developed infrastructure, a variety of coral reefs - the best resorts in Mexico know how to hook guests. Interesting excursions are offered for tourists. You can swim in the purest water of the holy Mayan springs and admire the unique natural "wells", swim with turtles, dive to sculptures under water. There really is a lot to do and see here.

Cancun is the most famous sandy "seven" in the Caribbean. This is a classic travel booklet with white beaches, emerald greens and turquoise waters in 3d. However, this resort is suitable not only for a lazy beach holiday, but also for a more active pastime. Want to surf? Different sections of the coastline are suitable for both professionals and beginners. Are you planning to catch the largest marlin or barracuda and write your name in the book of legendary anglers? You are in Cancun.

The extravaganza of water entertainment is intercepted by diving - the coral reefs of Cozumel are rightfully considered one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. The remains of the Mayan civilization in Xaret are in perfect harmony with the uninterrupted neon animation on the giant hotels. And in the vicinity of the secluded Shel-Ha nature reserve, having gone to which you can get a unique opportunity to swim with turtles, there are noisy nightclubs and the best restaurants in Mexico.

Playa del Carmen

The once unknown fishing village has become one of the most popular and fashionable resorts in the Caribbean overnight. European chic is very harmoniously combined with a cheeky party atmosphere. Snow-white sand and warm sun provide the resort with thousands of guests all year round, and ecotourism lovers enjoy visiting local national parks to immerse themselves in the riot of real tropical nature at least for a short time.

For fans of a more eventful holiday, seven-hour tours are organized around local lagoons and bays, as well as along underground rivers. At night, you can stay on the island and join the rhythm of the folklore show with a torchlight performance, or you can go on a night cruise on one of the ships brightly burning with all the lights. Tequila on such ships never ends, and the colorful Caribbean rhythms continue to break the silence of the night until dawn.

  • - first line, private beach, SPA center, discos, free diving lesson
  • - a complex of two hotels, a beach club, animation and shows, a la carte restaurants, decorative ponds and pools
  • - Daisy - an area for families with children, a water park, Privilege - an exclusive area for vip guests, El Beso - only for adults, Eden - a part located close to the beach. 5 outdoor pools, 12 bars, casino, bowling, theater and nightclub

Tulum

This resort town is known for two things - the best-preserved Mayan ruins and the best hotels in Mexico. At the junction of two eras and world cultures, there is a tiny Indian settlement, in which folk crafts are still preserved. Here, exotic, archaic and rustic flavor combine to create an indescribable cocktail. Tulum is also often chosen by divers: the clear water and colorful underwater world are sufficient reason to go to this particular resort. From excursions by local guides, you can learn that the name of the modern resort once meant "wall" or "fence".

This name is well deserved, because the ancient Mayan city is still fenced on all sides by fortress walls, whose thickness in some areas reaches eight meters, as well as sheer cliffs. All this made the city almost inaccessible. On the territory, in addition to city structures, the so-called temple of frescoes has also been preserved, in which unique antiquity art objects are preserved.

Akumal

This relatively small town is tightly sandwiched between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It would seem that this is the very ideal place for a full-fledged secluded rest. But no, people come here not only for the white beaches. It is enough to find out what the name of this resort means, and everything instantly becomes clear. The "Turtle Place" fully justifies its fame - out of six currently known species of sea turtles, two live here. There are practically no waves on this part of the coast, and the sand is very clean. It is for this that these ancient reptiles fell in love with Akumal.

The beach areas are divided into three components. Central Beach is the perfect installation on the theme of a modern beach holiday with large hotels and developed infrastructure. The jade beach is mostly deserted and couples often stroll here, enjoying the panoramic views of the sunsets. The northern beach belongs to fans of snorkeling and scuba diving, as there is a coral reef parallel to it.

  • - outdoor pool, spa-center, tennis court, fitness center, night club
  • - you can use the territory of 5 hotels that are part of the complex, entertainment shows, disco
  • - large spa center, animation, 7 swimming pools, kids club

Nayarit

Tours to Nayarit are always popular among tourists due to the high standards of service in local hotels, developed infrastructure, clean beaches and exotic local cuisine. The very name of the state already tunes in a positive way - "sunny" or in some translations "son of God". This land really seems to be blessed by the sun. Its main city - Tepik ("Place of huge stones") is the clearest example of the stratification of cultural traditions.

Despite the fact that the city does not give the impression of a place overloaded with architectural monuments or ancient buildings, a trip here will allow you to more fully experience the Mexican flavor by getting to know the local cuisine, talking with locals, trying your hand at traditional crafts, or even taking part in one of the festivals, which, as usual, are held on a wide scale.

Puerto Vallarta

From this resort comes a slightly different energy than from all other resort towns in Mexico. Old world charm is his trademark. It is nestled in Bandares Bay, the largest on the entire Pacific coast. There are a dozen beaches in the city. The most popular and largest of these is Los Muertos. Puerto Vallarta was considered a colonial city. Its foundation took place in the middle of the nineteenth century. But today, old cobbled streets and tiled roofs inevitably have to coexist with fashionable hotels made of glass and concrete.

In the very center of the city, there is the Church of the Virgin of Guadeloupe, which is difficult to confuse with anything else: the red stone bell tower is crowned with the crown of Empress Carlota, the favorite of the people. Even if you are not a fan of yachting, be sure to stop by the local port - dozens of luxury yachts, cruise ships and just fishing boats dock at the pier every day.

Ixtapa

If you find yourself in the central part of Ixtap, this town is unlikely to be able to charm you - a typical fishing village, of which there are many on the Pacific coast, with dozens of small shops and family restaurants. Low-rise buildings do not contribute to the special romanticization of this place. But it is worth digging a little deeper and it becomes clear why Ixtapa is one of the local tourist veins. Once the territory on which the city stands today belonged to the Aztec empire - serene lagoons and sleepy villages.

Gradually, the largest port of New Spain grew from a tiny settlement, which retained its position until the opening of Acapulco. Ixtapa was laid precisely on these foundations. On the government initiative, the city was turned into a beach recreation area, in the center of which there is a giant water park in the style of Disney cartoons. Golf fans will also be more than pleasantly surprised - the best courses are set against the backdrop of the Sierra Madre chains.

Isla Mujeres

There are many islands in the Caribbean that definitely deserve attention, but Isla Mujeres literally grabs this attention. So, the Island of Women. The name is more than intriguing, however, it was difficult to give a different name to the island, where a huge number of ceramic figures of women from Mayan times have survived. The island is relatively small - only sixteen square kilometers, but if you are determined to experience the concentrated Mexican flavor, this island will be an ideal option: truly paradise beaches, impassable tropical jungles, a dozen or two old buildings, including the Ishkhel castle and five-star hotels are the giants of our time.

The island's nightlife is no more measured than during the day, especially during the summer months, when seasonal celebrations begin with the migration of huge whale sharks that swim very close to the island.

Holbox Island

If you even remotely know Spanish, the name of this island will hardly please you - Black Hole. It is located near the northern tip of the Yucatan. There is only one tiny city on the entire island, which is too small to need cars or public transport. But the silence of this place and the beauty of the landscapes captivate - the island is consistently included in the top visited by tourists. Small hotels are open for visitors right on the coast.

The best time to travel to the island is in May, when migrating sharks and whales can be seen north of the island that rise to the surface. A bird sanctuary was also established on the island with a large number of relict bird species. There are no diving or snorkelling facilities on the island - the local waters are crystal clear, but the bottom of Holbox is sandy - there are no colorful reefs like other parts of the coast.

Los Cabos

Mostly Americans travel to Los Cabos. Thanks to the climatic conditions, this resort is much more pleasant for relaxation, as there is a less humid climate, which is easier for visitors to tolerate. On average, no more than eight rainy days are noted here per year. But the prices here are significantly higher - if you choose Los Cabos, be prepared to spend 20-30% more than if you are on vacation in Cancun. The city owns almost eighty kilometers of the beach line, given to the sun worshipers.

Divers should head straight for El Arco and Palmilla with their transparent aquamarine water, surfers usually choose Acapulquito, and lovers of walks and colorful pictures go to Playa del Amor. In addition to water activities, guests are offered a jeep safari in the desert, as well as the opportunity to see whales with their own eyes - from an airplane, boat, and sometimes right from the shore. It also hosts eight high quality golf courses.

Manzanillo

Thanks to its more than successful location, Manzanillo began to play the role of a key port in the twelfth century. It is believed that even then, trade began between the Chinese and the local Indian population. It was this city that became one of the strongholds of Cortez. Today, its port glory is still not forgotten. Almost any Mexican fisherman will tell you that it is definitely worth going here if you love shellfish dishes. Manzanillo is renowned as a renowned shellfish mining center. After the construction of the unusual complex "Fairies" in the Moorish style, the tourist popularity of the city has increased dramatically.

It was rebuilt at the initiative of the Bolivian tycoon, whose idea to create a small town in the style of "Thousand and One Nights" with snow-white houses immersed in tropical flowers was more than fully realized. At the moment, there is an active development of the surrounding areas - who knows what other architectural delights Manzanillo can offer.

Veracruz

It is difficult to call Veracruz a classic beach vacation in Mexico - the atmosphere of this city is more of a port and more authentic, as it is mainly Mexicans who come here for vacation. There is no lush colonial baroque, bright facades - the city is restrained and not as sunny as other cities on the coast. The sun is still shining, but often the winds blow and it rains. If you are planning a trip to Veracruz, focus on the summer months or December-March. The beaches in the city itself are not very welcoming - there is a well-developed infrastructure, but the shade of the sand is a little grayish, however, this is in perfect harmony with the general mood of the city.

Suburban beaches are much nicer. Many tourists enjoy going to Sakrifisios, a small island with pristine beaches and all conditions for diving. Veracruz is also famous for its coffee. Be sure to visit the Gran Cafe del Portal, which is located on the territory of an ancient monastery. The traditional local cuisine is also very good.

The first settlements on its territory appeared in the sixteenth century, and by the nineteenth century, the entire local population was partially forced out of the state. Guerrero's real heyday came in the fifties of the twentieth century, when Hollywood stars became interested in this place. Its central resort is Acapulco with its Cathedral of the Lady of Solitude, an outstanding Art Nouveau monument with numerous statues and colorful stained glass windows.

Be sure to visit the bird park, which was founded in the nineteenth century. The territory is decorated with artificial lakes. An astronomical platform with a variety of telescopes is also open for guests. It is best to go in early March, when the carnival week begins, filled with fireworks, national cuisine, and noisy festivities.

Michiocan

If you are planning to visit Michiocan, opt for Morelia - this ancient Mexican city has retained its status as the center of the state for more than five centuries. It is known for the fact that the descendants of the very Spanish conquistadors who founded the city itself in the sixteenth century still live in the city. The mild climate in combination with the majestic monuments of architecture make this place undoubtedly attractive to tourists from all over the world. The central part of the city is under the protection of international organizations, being a unique item of historical heritage.

The main dominant feature of this part of the city is the Cathedral - the only religious building not oriented to the west. There is also another extremely popular tourist monument - the sweets market, on the territory of which there are more than two hundred retail outlets, in which extremely rare sweets are collected - marmalade jam, coconut sweets, milk syrup and many others.

Puerto Morelos

This resort town belongs to dozens of similar once fishing towns, of which there are so many on the Pacific coast. At one time, they all became popular tourist attractions. In the early twentieth century, Puerto Morelos played the role of an important port. However, this charm of the port city is fully preserved today. To preserve such a cozy and authentic atmosphere in the city, the construction of buildings with a height of more than three floors is prohibited. The main local value is coral reefs, which are located a maximum of two meters from the surface of the water.

For the sake of preserving them in this form, fishing was prohibited here. This approach is paying off - the reefs of Puerto Morelos are the largest pristine reefs on the coast. Unsurprisingly, diving is one of the main reasons to visit this city. In addition, the surrounding area includes a botanical garden, an eco-park where you can ride horses, and a zoo with a crocodile farm.

Friends who are going to relax in Mexico or are simply interested in it, today we have a note about "tasty", namely, a review Mexican resorts and beaches.

There's a man on the beach
outstretched hands, -
crucified in the sun.

Albert Camus
"Notes of an absurdist"

I guess that many people dream of Mexican beaches, looking forward to a long-awaited vacation. Nowadays this direction is becoming more and more popular. Why exactly Mexico, what makes it attractive? Firstly, it is exotic: in addition to gorgeous beaches, tourists will find at least bright unusual cities and mysterious Mexican pyramids. Secondly, when in our homeland from the cold one does not get a tooth on a tooth, there is grace: warmth, birds sing, palms rustle, in general, paradise, and that's all. Thirdly, Mexico offers resorts for every taste: the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific coast, and, of course, the Caribbean Sea. Not bad, right? It seems it's time to think about tickets))

What resorts have we visited?

For six months traveling in Mexico, Andriusix and I managed to visit several resorts: Veracruz, Puerto Angel, Cancun, Puerto Escondido, Riviera Maya. Yes, this is not a complete list, but we visited the most popular paradise and not so popular places among tourists. I will describe them all in the order in which they were on our path.

Veracruz and Boca del Rio

The description of Veracruz will rather be a warning about where to go, unless, of course, you want to get complete disappointment from the sea you saw.

Why did we go to Veracruz? Because I liked the name and there was time for the trip. If you have only a couple of weeks in your arsenal and you want not only to lie by the sea, but also to see interesting places, you should definitely not waste time on the port city of Veracruz. I heard that we were not the only ones who fell for the beautiful name and more or less decent photos on the net. Don't fall for the same hook.

Veracruz is a port city in the state of the same name, on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, three hours' drive from Puebla. In fact, this is a resort for locals with a very dirty sea of all shades of gray and the same sand. That the Mexicans find in him a mystery to me. Rumor has it that this is an inexpensive option to spend your vacation at least by some sea. But not for the sake of this you and I will fly 14 hours by plane?

If, nevertheless, you find yourself in these parts and want to swim (you will hardly want to on the city beach), go to the suburb of Veracruz - Boca del Rio - to the Mokambo beach. The sea is cleaner and the atmosphere is nicer.

Puerto Escondido

After the failure in Veracruz, Andriusiks and I had a series of beaches on the Pacific coast. How we wanted to see him! And he did not disappoint us!

The first Pacific resort was the town Puerto Escondido located in the state of Oaxaca. Tourists usually come here from Oaxaca de Juarez, which is about a five-hour bus ride away.

Puerto Escondido is more like a village with little infrastructure. However, a bus station, supermarket, hotels and restaurants are available. People come here for a measured, calm rest, surfing and unity with nature. Most of all, this place is liked by young people who find a special hippie atmosphere here.

Puerto Escondido pleased us, amazed and surprised us with its beaches... Nice cozy coves, palm thickets, picturesque cliffs, emerald water, pleasant sand, huge waves for surfers, excursions to dolphins and turtles - this is an incomplete set of advantages of the local beaches. More than others we liked Carisalio and Sikatela. It turned out that the second beach is known for its waves among surfers almost all over the world.

Puerto Angel and surroundings

Not far from Puerto Escondido, literally an hour and a half away, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, there is a whole scattering of places that are ready to give tourists all their warmth and beauty. The only pity is that few people drop in here, being in pursuit of the Caribbean Sea, which we will talk about later. Basically, Americans who know all the secret places come here, and they, believe me, will not rest anywhere.

In this placer you can find a resort town Puerto Angel, villages Masunte and San Agustinio and a few more uncrowded beaches and bays. We came here one day from Puerto Escondido, but you can live here for a week, or two, and much more, if there is no fear of being almost completely out of touch with civilization. It is in these parts that you can find completely wild beaches, where there will be no hotels, no bungalows, no people, no cafes with soft drinks. The rest are also very nice and are not overcrowded with sunbathing and bathing bodies. I would describe many of the local beaches in one word - idyll.

Of all of the above, Andryusiks and I least liked the coast of Puerto Angel (this does not mean at all that it is bad and ugly there), most of all we liked San Agustinio beach and deserted Camaron bay.

What's the conclusion what can be done about Mexican beaches in the Pacific Ocean? Maybe the resorts of Puerto Escondido, Puerto Angel and their surroundings are not the most popular among tourists, but, in my opinion, more than worthy! Sheboldasik and Andryusiks recommend))

Cancun

So we got to the hottest beach theme!

Cancun- the largest and most famous Mexican resort on the Caribbean coast. He is considered one of the best in the world. This treasure is located on the Yucatan Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo. Many tourists just for the sake of this resort and go to distant lands. Why and why? It's all about the unique sea. Believe me, you have to see it with your own eyes, because no words are enough to describe the beauty of the combination of the whitest sand and the incredibly blue sea.

It was a discovery for me that Cancun may not be as expensive as it is commonly believed. The thing is that Cancun is definitely divided by an invisible wall in two: an expensive and touristy Hotel Zone and an ordinary, unremarkable city. It is in the latter that you can and should stop if you are interested in the budget option of staying at the famous resort.

Concerning beaches, then there are a lot of them and they are different: with waves and without waves, beautiful and not very beautiful, with and without algae, crowded and almost lonely. I think that along the twenty-kilometer coastal strip, everyone will find their own ideal piece of the beach.

What beaches did we like the most? Playa Delfines made a good impression despite the crowds of swimmers. Gaviota-Azul also liked. In fact, all the beaches are good in their own way, especially at 9-20 km.

Island of Women (Isla Mujeres)

Not far from Cancun, in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, there is another resort corner - Island of Women or in spanish Isla Mujeres... Someone prefers it to a famous neighbor, someone just goes there for a day to unwind and change the scenery. Moreover, it’s only about twenty minutes to sail by ferry.

The island is quite small and almost all tourist attractions are concentrated in the northern part of it. The rest of the territory is at the disposal of the Mexicans, who simply live, work, grow, study, etc. Only a few hotels can be found along the western edge, but on our visit they looked completely deserted.

Beaches Isle Mujeres is not so good, even the one in the north (where most of the tourists and turns). Which beach on the Island of Women did Andriusiks and I like the most? No. I liked the east coast of the island, but it is impossible to swim there because of the rocks and strong waves, except to look at the cool landscapes.

Riviera Maya - Playa del Carmen

Towards the end of our journey, Andriusiks and I reached the Riviera Maya. Many tourists wonder which beaches to prefer: those in Cancun or those that are near one of the cities of the Riviera. Let's first figure out which is which.

Riviera Maya is a coastal strip of the Caribbean Sea from Cancun in the north to Tulum in the south (including the latter), dotted with small resort towns. It stretches for as much as 100 kilometers and it is here that such resorts of Mexico as Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen, the island of Cozumel, Akumal, Tulum are located. We only visited Playa and Tulum.

So, Playa del Carmen... As you guessed, everything is located in the same Yucatan in the state of Quintana Roo, an hour and a half by bus from Cancun.

It is a very compact coastal town, which has everything you need for recreation: large souvenir shops, all kinds of cafes and eateries, clubs, hotels, apartments, travel agencies and, of course, beaches. For some, Playa del Carmen is even more fun than Cancun.

Beaches in Playa del Carmen, they are divided into two parts: before the pier (to the north) and behind it (to the south). Several city beaches stretch to the pier, where they are crowded and dirty, but there are bars, masseurs and lifeguards. Behind the pier, the situation is gradually improving and the sea, together with the coast, are becoming more attractive and less crowded, with the exception of the hotel areas. The number of benefits of civilization is also decreasing.

Most of all, in Playa del Carmen, we liked the southern beaches, where hotels end and green thickets begin to be seen.

The conclusion is this: We liked the sea more in Cancun, but Playa won for comfort.

Riviera Maya - Tulum

The last resort town in Mexico we visited was Tulum. We went here not only because of the beaches, but also because of the Mayan pyramids, but more on that in another article.

Tulum is located in the same state and on the same peninsula, an hour's drive from Playa del Carmen and two and a half from Cancun. It looks more like a village than a bustling tourist town. Tulum is probably the quietest and most provincial of all its neighbors. Lovers of entertainment may get bored here, but connoisseurs of tranquility will appreciate this place.

Tulum beaches are distinguished by a certain "roughness" in the good sense of the word. They are not as spoiled by tourists as in Cancun or Playa, there is no continuous row of huge hotels along the coast and cafes with screaming speakers. Crowds of people are found mostly locally - opposite one or another compact hotel. In general, peace and quiet.

They say that to find the best Tulum beaches, you have to go far, far south towards the Sian Kaan nature reserve. We didn't make it, maybe someone will share their impressions?

Verdict to everything and everyone

Friends, do you want to be clean? Let me be bombarded with slippers, but personally, according to the mood and the emotions I received, the Pacific beaches liked even more than the Caribbean ones. Oh, did I say that out loud?

What other resorts can you visit?

All of the above is not a complete list of resorts and beaches in Mexico, for which the country is so rich. Take, for example, the most famous resort town Acapulco, about which a hundred years ago Laima Vaikule sang "Ay-yay-yay." On the shores of the same Pacific Ocean you will find Puerto Vallarta and a small town Huatulco with wonderful beaches (according to the photographs of those who have been there). Do not forget about the resorts of the Riviera Maya that we have not seen, including island of Cozumel (Izla Cozumel),Akumal etc .. Surely, I missed something ... Oh yes, the beaches Baja California.
