It was the tourists who gave this place its name. Another, much older name of the Stone Town is the Devil's Settlement, and the locals simply call it Turtles.
Stone city is a complex of huge stones arranged in such a way that it gives the impression of a city. And everything here seems to be real: narrow streets, and wide avenues, and dead ends, and a square, and arches-gates to the city. You can wander around such a city for hours, you can even get lost if you get here for the first time.
They also live in the Stone City and their inhabitants: Big and Small Turtles, Feathered Guard, Rat, Seal, Idols and others. Stone boulders received this name for their extraordinary resemblance to these animals and are rightfully considered the symbols of the Stone City.

How did the Stone City appear? There is a legend that a long time ago this place was a city of stunning beauty. It blossomed and developed. And beautiful and kind people lived here. But the king of this city had a blind daughter, she was the only one who could not see the beauty of the place where she lives. The evil sorcerer offered the king a cure for his daughter, and the king agreed. The origin of the Stone Town
The legend, of course, is beautiful, but scientists believe that the so-called streets of the Stone City were formed due to the fact that a river flowed here millions of years ago. It was she who broke through the streets and arches.
The stone city is located on the top of the Rudyansky Spoi ridge (526 m). The rocks are composed of Lower Carboniferous fine-grained quartz sandstone. The rock mass is cut by numerous deep cracks (up to 8-12 meters). Water, wind, glacier and geological eras have worked on the look Ural mountains creating an extraordinary complex.

Big and Small towns

Stone town is located about 200 kilometers from Perm. It is quite easy to get to Kamenny Gorod: by car along the Perm-Kizel highway, you need to get to the village of Usva. Usually cars are left here, on this patch, and walk along the trail for about 1 kilometer. There are many small narrow paths here, but they all lead to one place - to the Stone Town.
