Signature train “Two-storey. One hundred and fourth two-storey. Personal experience: pros and cons

The last time I took a train was 2 years ago from Moscow to Donetsk, before that last time I drove 5 years ago, and somehow did not notice much difference with my childhood memories (in childhood, we drove to grandmother and back every summer, so the memories were very clearly etched into my memory) - a cramped compartment, it was blowing out of the window, it’s cold in the compartment , then hot, dirty table, vintage mattresses, for which you first need to take the linen from the guide, and then turn it in (separate quest and entertainment). It’s scary to get into the vestibule, not to mention walking between the cars, but what’s just about waiting in line for the toilet next to the garbage can, which was invariably overflowing towards the end of the journey? What about a dirty toilet that could not be used at bus stops?
But when I was offered to go to St. Petersburg and back by train, curiosity won out over fear. It turned out to be very tempting from the center of Moscow to get straight to the center of St. Petersburg just by sleeping at night. It is faster by plane, and sometimes costs like a train, but here we must not forget that you need to get to and from the airport, arrive an hour before landing ... in short, not the most comfortable option is obtained for relatively close distances. There was also an extreme option to go by car, but I would have to drive 800 km alone at night after a working week, without the hope of sleeping off in the next couple of days. So the train seemed the most reasonable and convenient way, and it was interesting to remember the sensations of the sound of wheels and the landscapes sweeping outside the window.

The most unusual thing that appeared on the railway during the time until I used their services is double-decker cars. They were launched about a year ago. Now there are two trains - to Adler and to St. Petersburg, both from Moscow.
The double-decker carriage is designed to carry 64 people, and was packed to capacity with cheerful Chinese citizens-tourists. We enter the carriage - here it is light and clean, an even row of compartment doors. Do you remember earlier on trains in compartment cars in the corridor there were reclining chairs? There are no such chairs here. A staircase leads to the second floor and externally the corridor of the first floor does not differ from the corridor of the second.

The compartment itself has also undergone significant changes, perhaps, only the layout has remained the same, only now the shelves in the compartment are immediately filled with linen.
Do you remember how you left the compartment in turn letting the neighbors get the mattress? Cover everything, while trying to prevent the dust from flying in all directions and not touching anyone with your hands? Now you can go to bed right away without unnecessary body movements.
It also seemed to me that the shelves had become longer - in any case, this time my legs did not rest against the wall. visually, there is definitely no more space here than in an ordinary compartment. The air conditioner was working. There is a "goodbye draft" in the glass windows. But there is another side to this - if the air conditioner breaks down, there is a chance to weld, the windows will not open. Two "joy of an iPhone" sockets, right in the compartment. Lamps, a mirror, a table covered with a clean tablecloth, there are hangers It is claimed that a travel kit of bathroom accessories is included in the price, but I was too lazy to go to the conductor for it.

The toilet is practically a masterpiece. And this is not sarcasm. Most importantly, it can be used at any time. It is clean, quite spacious (though there is no romantic window on the right whose handle was so comfortable to hold on to), there are napkins and soap, an almost nanotechnological flush button. There are three such toilets in a two-story carriage (compared to a reserved seat carriage, there are more toilets per person, compared to a compartment carriage - fewer). The tambour next to the toilets expands a little, so it is quite comfortable for several people to stand, waiting for their turn - it's funny that this was thought out. And on the board in the carriage the "toilet status" is displayed, in the sense of whether it is occupied or not. Very comfortably. True, it was possible to go further and make such an indicator right in the compartment so that it was not necessary to get up from the shelf in vain.

Separate entertainment - the passage between the cars. No scary accordions with shaking floors and flickering sleepers and dirty vestibules. Now there are cheerful orange doors with silver corrugation, a hard floor, it is quiet and not scary at all. I remember that panicky childish fear when I had to pass between the carriages - it was insanely scary it would fail, and it’s just dark and very, very noisy. Now the doors between the carriages open at the touch of a button with a quiet pneumatic sound, and close automatically, allowing you to move freely towards the intended goal (but smokers will suffer - there is absolutely nowhere to kill a cigarette here.)

I had a goal. I don't remember ever being in a restaurant car, so out of ethnographic research interest I decided to leave. The restaurant car also has two floors, on the second there is the restaurant itself, on the first there are utility rooms and a bar. They say that the food is tasty and relatively Moscow prices are not very expensive, but it was late, I didn't want to eat, but I wanted to sleep, so after taking a couple of shots I preferred to go to bed.

Of the pleasant buns - the double-decker train has WiFi, however, there is a suspicion that it works simply through a modem from a cellular operator: that is, when there is a cellular connection, there is also the Internet. And when the train rushes off the beaten path, and base stations are tens of kilometers away, it is not there.

On a two-story building (number 006) I traveled from St. Petersburg to Moscow. In St. Petersburg, I ended up on another train, one-story (№004 "Express", as it is written in the ticket). Almost everything is the same there - clean, quiet, good toilet, but there is no wifi and one socket on the compartment. But I was amazed that passengers were offered a light dinner - there were boxes of water, cookies and yogurt right on the table in the compartment, and the conductor asked what we wanted for breakfast (there was a choice of three dishes - porridge, cheesecakes, pancakes) and brought it in the morning - it was shock! For the first time on the train, they gave us normal hot food (free).

True, I had to pay 30 rubles for tea in a branded cup holder. Interestingly, by the way, is this a way of guides to earn a tip, or is breakfast and dinner really included in the ticket price on this train, and tea for a fee? In this case, "where is the check ??" But the price of tickets on this train is higher than on the "double-deck".

By the way, now Russian Railways has a flexible pricing system on some trains, almost like on airplanes - the more demand (the fewer seats left on the train), the more expensive.

Here's to estimate the price in a week (I suspect that this is not very far from the possible minimum):

A compartment with a double-decker carriage with the departure "tomorrow" will cost more than 3000 rubles (if the seats are sold out - and they are usually all sold out).

According to my impressions, Russian Railways has made a rather big step forward in terms of developing the quality of service and comfort, but it also has some peculiarities. I must say right away that I have no complaints at all about the carriage of the branded train - everything was very cool there (albeit without wifi). But there are a couple of comments on the double-decker carriage:
1. Staircase - for older people and those with heavy suitcases, it is better to immediately choose seats on the ground floor
2. Claustrophobia - for those who do not really like confined spaces and low ceilings, it is better not to take the upper seats on the second floor. The ceiling there is slightly sloped towards the window, and hangs very low over your head.
3. Space for luggage. I fully admit that we were somehow unlucky and we had a special compartment (extreme to the stairs), but under the lower bunk there was some kind of metal technical box that took up almost the entire place. So we barely managed to fit my backpack (about the size of carry-on baggage on the plane) and Tannin's suitcase (not much more). What people will do with big bags, baby carriages, skis, bicycles, I’m even scared to imagine, because there is no "third shelf" on which all this was stuffed in old cars. I would very much like to hope that somewhere there is a luggage compartment that can be used if necessary. If you have a lot of luggage, it's better to take another train.
4. Poor guides. The carriage became double-decker, the number of passengers doubled (compared to a regular compartment carriage), and there are still two conductors. The guide honestly told us that if we need something (tea or something else), then it is better to go to him right away, and not wait until he brings, because he will serve fifty Chinese for several hours.

The train was impressive. In different ways. Didn't leave indifferent, that's for sure. A kind of armored train made of tin foil and with plastic inside. I would like it to be made more accurately, especially since such a "exhibition" first copy. But maybe everything has its time. And the time for really beautiful and high-quality trains has not come yet. At least, this train is in every sense better than a regular train, with the exception of one important nuance - there is very, very little space for luggage in the compartment. But first things first.

Outwardly, the train looks somewhat gloomy. Gray hopper on wheels.

2.

The maximum speed is 160 km / h. It would be very interesting to ride it at that speed.

3.

The locomotive is ordinary. It is lower than the carriages and it looks unaesthetic (I had no desire to show it somehow on purpose, but you can see this difference a little better).
I think some kind of fairing between the locomotive and the car would have improved the look. Anyway, a locomotive is needed to match such a train, at least in color.

4.

Obviously, something is missing in the design of the wagons. Yes, it's cheaper, but it still looks ugly.

5.

Let's climb into the carriage.

6.

7.

8.

It looks nicer from the inside than from the outside.

9.

10.

This is a regular coupe. The ceiling is unusually low. And the space under the lower luggage racks is clearly not enough. Only a small photocall would fit there in height, but a large one would not fit. In general, it is designed for travelers with small suitcases. And it is desirable that there be no more than 1 small suitcase for 1 person, otherwise the luggage will have nowhere to put.

11.

12.

Generally, pretty.

13.

14.

Let's look at the 2nd floor.

15.

16.

The compartment is on the 1st floor.

17.

18.

19.

Toilet on the 1st floor. Pretty neat, not like the old trains. True, the ventilation there is not very good, and there are no windows. And it's very stuffy. However, the whole car was very stuffy. Maybe the air will be fresher while driving. On the other hand, remembering old trains, it is impossible not to shudder - there is a gas chamber in summer.

20.

While we were looking at the cars from the inside, the official part of the event took place outside.

21.

Then they began to distribute gift calendars. At first there was just a crush. And then it almost turned into a natural fight. I felt sorry for the worker who was distributing the calendars and ashamed for the people pushing and tearing out the calendars with greed, as if this was an unprecedented value, without which they could not live.

22.

23.

Here, a little later, it was possible to forge gift commemorative coins.

28.

The train provided seats for disabled people. More precisely, 1 place for 1 disabled person. But everything seems to be thought out. There is even a lift.

29.

30.

31.

This is a lift, a view from the carriage.

32.

A compartment for a disabled person and an accompanying person.

33.

It is the same, from a different angle.

34.

The toilet is quite spacious with special handrails.

35.

There is a shower.

36.

And this is the compartment of the SV carriage.

37.

38.

There is even an ironing board. In the background is another shower.

39.

We're in the dining car. On the 1st floor. There is a bar, kitchen and service rooms.

40.

41.

42.

43.

Let's take a look at the service room in the dining car.

44.

45.

Refrigerator.

46.

The restaurant itself is located on the second floor.

The impression of the train is twofold. It seems that it is clearly better than the old trains. But it does not cause enthusiasm either.

I have already shown the air photo with and, and now it’s the turn of the double-decker car, which I returned from the Kuban. A very interesting experience, which I deliberately asked for. So, on the way back, a ticket was taken to the lower shelf in the compartment on the second floor, seat 109. The train goes very quickly, less than 19 hours from Krasnodar to Moscow. But his passage there is very inconvenient - around four in the morning. However, what can't you do for the sake of an interesting experiment! :)

Below is a story not about the path, but about the two-story building itself and about its passenger properties.
Consider what is good in it and what is inconvenient, and what is the overall balance.

Double decker train No. 104 at the station Liski

02.04.10 in the morning. We are waiting for our train on the platform of the Krasnodar station, we have already announced. Now the next road will come from Anapa, the usual one, and in five minutes - and our 104th.

I have already published the video of his arrival, but I will repeat here again:

3. The car is high, unusual for our region. To the contact network from the top point, it remains, if I understood correctly, 75 cm. The first floor is below the usual level, the second is much higher.

The train has arrived, I go in. Seven more people sit down, despite the night. Behind me - a mini-scandal: at the next passenger, the conductor does not let the escort pass, who wanted to carry a heavy suitcase upstairs. The conductor, according to the instructions, is right - the parking lot is less than 7 minutes, but it’s not a fountain to drag a suitcase up the steep stairs to the second floor either. She didn’t let me in.

4. And here is the passage of the second tier, in the light of the lamps. The windows are unusually low, at the level of the abdomen; below there will be a daytime photo with people, it is more clearly visible there. This photo clearly shows the emergency exit of the 2nd floor from the side of the aisle. By the way, it is interesting: the passage of the 2nd floor is located above the compartment of the 1st floor. So, when they walk and sit down at the stations, the stomp is heard by those who ride on the first tier.

5. Early in the morning we passed Rostov-Glavny. Outgoing and incoming people are massively filmed "in the background" - the train is perceived as very unusual, for six months they have not got used to it.

6. Here's another :) And even on the tracks, people look at the train with curiosity, or even take out their phones to take off.

Well, now let's see the coupe.

7. The very first thing to look at is sockets. Yes, there are two of them per compartment, at the headboard by the window! And this is very good. Finally, the energy is with us! But the window has become noticeably smaller. It's good that the light panels were placed not on the side, but right along the course of lying - now the light does not fall on the opposite passenger. But ... The curtains completely disappeared - which the FPK recognized, apparently, as unnecessary rudiment. So now it will not be possible to close off the sun - only if you lower the dense visor and plunge into the darkness.

8. The most radical change is that the top shelf space has decreased. Moreover, it is strong. Although, in fairness, there is more space for the "upper" ones on the first floor of the carriage. But here, on the second - very little. Now you won't even be able to sit down on top. Just lie down, or stand up, but remain in a bent position. However, a child of 7-9 years old can sit down, but not an adult.

9. Tea is served in cup holders, honoring tradition. For the first time, I came across not just a standard Russian Railways cup holder, but also with an overprint below "OAO FPK". Tea is given net Greenfield, not garbage-weedy. This is good. A glass with tea leaves - 20 rubles, with sugar-lemon - 30 rubles. The ticket also includes food sets, they are located further by the window. 0.25 water, mini-pate, two biscuits, waffles, jam, plastic cutlery and something else.

10. The compulsory set includes the press (pictured). We went on May 4, the press was for April 29-30. Second freshness, frankly;)

11. Linen included, hygiene kit (brush, paste, napkins).

12. The train is positioned with wi-fi. There is a coverage map in the hallway showing solid speed values.

13. In real life, everything is much more prosaic: the network is taken from megaphone 3G traffic, so where it is - that is (10-15% of the travel time), and where not - do not blame me. There are at large stations, in some places closer to Moscow after Ryazan, near Rostov and its satellite cities ... perhaps that's all. The routers are right at the aisles down the stairs, and my car wi-fi was great. But this, as you understand, is not identical with the presence of the Network.

14. The upper luggage bins are understandably gone. On the first floor, too. Now the passenger of the upper shelf can only put their luggage at the bottom, sharing the space with the "lower" ones. That is, relative to a conventional compartment car, the space for storing luggage for 4 passengers has decreased by about 2.2 times - taking into account the slightly reduced distance under the lower shelf.

15. However, the most important ambush for the "summer" passengers became clear already in the middle of the day, in the Michurinsk area. It turned out that the designers of the car had placed the air conditioning not only above, from the roof, but also below the window, shown by the arrow. And if you, God forbid, lay down to rest your head against the window on a pillow, then you will blow exactly in your ear. In general, a sure path to otitis media and colds on the way to the resort. We, of course, did not expect such an ambush - upon arrival home, I had to press on the creeps for a cold with a high dose of vitamin C.

We rode in a compartment, three of us, a neighbor with a 9-year-old son also sat down at night in Krasnodar. Interestingly, she also took a ticket to the second floor partly out of curiosity to try. Partly because of the speed, the train goes very fast and arrives in Moscow at 11 pm. In general, along the way, we discussed what was good there and what was not.
Then he also got into conversation with the conductor - a Krasnodar Armenian woman of about fifty years old. Such talkative caught, benevolent, but corrosive. I ask:
- And there are two of you left on the carriage, after all, there are 2 floors?
- Yes, it remained that way ...
- Is it hard to constantly go up and down the stairs, from floor to floor?
- Well, it's tolerable ... we're used to it ... but it's difficult to go down after a while, you get tired. Going up is not at all as tiring as going down often. Especially with tea or linen in hand.

16. The conductor was so imbued with my interest in the carriage that she opened an unoccupied compartment and made it possible to film. General form to shelves and space.

And the shelves here are reserved seat, short ... Not transformers.
- Yes, I see.

17. The shelves are really shortened, reserved seats. And more rigid than in the new Tver coupes. It seemed to me uncomfortable lying. The general feeling is "neat, but poor." A sort of coupe-light. The most unpleasant thing is that they were cut not only in length, but also in width - they became narrower. A little, 2-3 centimeters - but you can really feel it!

18. The door is completely mirrored from the inside.

19. Another serious minus - now you cannot just shift the pillow to the other side and lie down with your head against the aisle, as in ammendorf (if, for example, air conditioning blows in your head or the sun is shining right in your face, without curtains). A large gap and the pillow falls down. Pichalka. The shelves are shortened ...

20. We were not given cards from the compartment. But there is a technical possibility.

21. A big plus of the bottom shelf of the second floor is an ideal high view of the terrain. In addition, the second floor glasses have fewer contamination factors, so they are clean and look good. But if you were unlucky and you took a ticket upstairs, then alas. Neither look from there, nor look in the aisle - you have to bend twice.

22. This is how ordinary trains look if you look at them from our level.

Now let's get out of the compartment and walk around the carriage.

23. Here you can estimate the height of the second floor corridor and the level of the windows. The windows are good for a child 6-9 years old, and in the aisle tall men, somewhere from 180, have to bend down.

24. Let's go to the first level. A ladder with a mirror - you can see if anyone is coming from below. A wi-fi router is also visible. There is a trash can under the mirror.

25. Going down ...

26. And here it is, the first floor.

27. He is, of course, freer than the second. The distance to the ceiling is higher, the windows are at a comfortable level of an adult. Here, in general, the ride is noticeably more comfortable. I did not dare to rent the compartment from the inside with other people, but it was clear that the upper shelf also had more space on top. The windows do not open anywhere - only air conditioning. If he is not there, the air feels a little stale.

28. At the non-working end there are three toilets. They are unified on 2 floors. Previously, there were 2 toilets for 36 places, here - 3 for 64.

I also took off the toilets, keeping in mind the blogging law "there is no successful trip without photographing a spectacle," but they were very smeared with me, as luck would have it. So, just take our word for it - they are narrow, but very clean. Everything is inside, from napkins to moisturizer and liquid soap. Toilets are bio, work also at the stations.

31. Passage from carriage to carriage. Here you need to press the button, and not open it mechanically with the handle. The door slides open if not locked.

32. View from toilets to the first floor with a compartment.

33. In the working side of the car there is a service compartment for conductors and a working compartment.

34. Immediately - a mini-buffet, you can buy sweets, water, chewing gum. An unpleasant change - titanium with boiling water has halved and is hidden by the conductor. Now you can't just walk up to him and get some boiling water at any time, even at the station, even when the conductor has left or is asleep. Only - when it is: (((

35. We go upstairs again. The round-trip of the car is completed. As a reminder - the 2nd floor has 81-112 seats, the 1st floor - 1-32 seats.

And a few views from the platform. Filmed in Liski, where we stood for 15 minutes.

36. Comparative view of a 2-storey car and a high covered car from the other side.

37. Exit from the carriage. Yes, the doors are now only with one sides.

38. The height of the car in comparison with the locomotive (driven by the newest EP20).

39. ... and arrival under the arches of the Kazan station in Moscow. The end of the path.

General balance: on the ground floor - closer to a normal compartment and more comfortable; on the second - a narrowly and worse reserved seat in dimensions.
The review above is perfect, good. Dragging along with things is hard. Places for things have been reduced by more than half.
For the sake of interest, you can drive, but in general, it is better to ride in an ordinary, simple compartment.

Then I'll try to tell you

In 2013, the first train with double-deck passenger carriages produced by the carriage plant in the city of Tver was formed. We have encountered the shortcomings of single-deck cars more than once and present them. But the disadvantages of traveling in double-decker cars are still unknown to us.

Double-deck cars have their own specific disadvantages, which differ from single-deck cars:
- There are almost twice as many seats in a double-decker compartment car (instead of 36 there are 64), but the number of conductors remains the same, respectively, the service will be slower (tea will have to wait longer) and the boarding time will increase (the queue will be longer).

In a double-decker car there are stairs not only to the second floor, but also to the first, which is especially unpleasant with heavy luggage. Elderly passengers who have to carry their luggage up the stairs will be particularly affected. This circumstance is aggravated by the fact that the number of passengers will increase and create certain difficulties when going up the stairs.

The double-deck carriage does not have a luggage rack (third rack). It is not clear where the luggage of 4 passengers in the compartment should be put. Most likely, the amount of luggage will be limited.

There is no titanium in the double-decker car. Instead, a conventional electric kettle. How many times it will need to be boiled and how long it will take is unknown. It should not be forgotten that the number of passengers is almost twice as large.

The height of the ceiling in a compartment of a double-deck carriage is lower than in a single-deck carriage, so the owners of the upper bins will not be able to sit - there is not enough height.

The new double-decker cars are ventilated (fresh air) only when the train is in motion. There are no vents and the car is hermetically sealed with a glass unit. The air conditioner only cools the air, but does not change it to fresh air. The volume of the compartment has been significantly reduced by lowering the height. In summer, during heat waves or forced stops, it will be much worse to endure the trip. Moreover, the carriage has 64 passengers instead of 36, which is more than second-class carriage(54 passengers). If the air conditioner fails, then a disaster.

Moving along the corridor of the second floor will have to bend slightly, especially for tall people, since the wall and windows are sloped to the ceiling 2 meters high.

In an ordinary compartment carriage for 36 passengers - 2 toilets (1 toilet for 18 passengers), in a two-story carriage for 64 passengers - 3 toilets (1 toilet for 21 passengers). It got a little worse.

Double-decker cars have become taller and during movement such cars swing even more than single-deck cars, which will cause unpleasant sensations especially on the second floor. Moving up stairs while in motion (especially for the elderly) is fraught with injury. It is worth noting that hot tea will also be carried up the stairs, which will also create additional hazards.

It also looks illusory that tickets will be much cheaper. Russian Railways will not miss the benefit. It will be especially a pity if Russian Railways does not make an alternative to double-deck trains.

It seems to many of us that we have appeared quite recently, with the launch of the Moscow-Adler route. However, their history in our country goes back more than one and a half centuries. Let's start with the main features of this updated vehicle.

Double-decker car: key points

Bunk, - modernization of a conventional passenger car for greater passenger capacity. There is a two-level arrangement of salons (one above the other). The most illustrative examples are TGV Duplex, Shinkansen E4, Shinkansen E1.

Depending on its design, such a carriage can accommodate 40-70% more passengers. Considering that for the passage of overpasses, tunnels, electrified sections of the route with a hinged contact network, a limited height of the train is required, the designers of such cars go to all kinds of tricks: the first floor is lowered as low as possible between the bogies, the height of both salons is reduced. In double-decker tourist trains, the lower level serves a technical purpose, which is why its height is small, and the upper one is more spacious, comfortable, often with panoramic glazing. Below is a brief comparative description.

Russian double-decker trains

Are there double-decker trains in Russia? Russian Railways offers passengers four types of such cars:

  • compartment (64 instead of 36 seats);
  • CB (30 instead of 18);
  • staff compartment carriage (50 instead of 18-24 seats);
  • restaurant (44-48 seats for diners).

Double-decker trains in Russia have a whole list of features:

  • climate control - air conditioning and heating;
  • sealed and safe inter-car passages;
  • energy saving LED lighting;
  • three dry closets, which can be used regardless of parking;
  • stairs with and comfortable handrails;
  • the carriages are powered only from the electric locomotive;
  • navigation and satellite communication system GLONASS in the staff car;
  • modernized security system - video surveillance, access control and security of the train.

Compartment in a double-decker car

Double-deck trains in Russia (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Samara and other directions) have the following features of their compartments:

  • standard places for rest and sleep, lamps, table, mirror;
  • ladders for climbing to the top place;
  • shelves for small luggage;
  • the ability to access the compartment only with a magnetic individual key;
  • two sockets (100 W) for recharging mobiles, laptops and other electronics;
  • made all beddings in the NE and the upper ones in the compartment;
  • individual LCD display for viewing media files for each passenger (CB), headphone output (coupe, CB).

Additionally, passengers are offered the following services: drinking and boiled water along the entire route, sanitary and hygienic supplies, sale of souvenirs, tea and confectionery.

Double-decker trains in Russia: routes

In all directions of the two-level trains, Russian Railways guarantees:

  • possibility of more affordable price ticket due to the greater passenger capacity;
  • minimal harm to the environment due to the use of new materials and technologies in the manufacture of wagons;
  • convenient traffic schedules (two-tier trains are fast).

Below are the directions for double-decker trains in Russia.

Positive feedback from passengers

Positive features noted by passengers who tested double-decker trains in Russia:

  • cosiness, comfort;
  • new modern wagons;
  • affordable price;
  • reduction in travel time;
  • polite and friendly staff;
  • ease of use of dry closets;
  • compartment access device;
  • free WI-FI;
  • high quality food in the restaurant;
  • safety;
  • purity;

  • availability of places for disabled people;
  • a sleeping place pre-covered with guides;
  • sockets directly in the compartment;
  • conductor call button;
  • on the top floor, almost no traffic noise is heard;
  • air conditioning system;
  • unusual for a Russian traveler.

Negative aspects

Not hidden from the eyes of passengers and the disadvantages of the two-level innovation:

  • Service. If earlier there were two conductors per 36-seat carriage, now the same number of workers is provided for 64 passengers.
  • The presence of stairs. To get to the second floor, you need to overcome some rather steep steps.
  • Gone is the overhead luggage rack above the entrance - luggage can now only be stored in lockers.
  • Toilets. Double-decker trains in Russia have only three cabins - one for 21 passengers (instead of 18, as in a regular compartment).
  • Strong rolling. Due to the peculiarities of the Russian railways, there is a high probability of strong rolling at the second level. It will be unsafe to be on the stairs on the way.

Also among the shortcomings, passengers note low ceilings, unregulated climate control, an unpleasant odor in the carriages, unfriendly conductors, narrow sleeping places, poor arrangement of windows (too low), interruptions in WI-FI, overpriced food, poor quality, tasteless food rations for SV.

History of double-decker cars in Russia

On October 30, 2013, a double-deck train of 15 cars departed from Adler to Moscow. Mineralnye Vody the first Russian depot for double-decker trains was opened. But these events are by no means the beginning of the history of double-deck trains in our country - the first such cars were built back in 1864 at the Kolomensky Zavod. "Cuckoo" (so the train was nicknamed because of the unofficial call "ku-ku" with which the driver marked the beginning of the train's movement) ran between Peterhof and Oranienbaum, a section of the track in a densely populated suburban area.

In 1905, double-deck cars were produced on the Tver carriage-building car. They were put into operation again only 50 years later - cars produced by the GDR were running between Belgorod and Kharkov, Kovel and Lvov. In their likeness, the Leningrad Carriage Works created a domestic model of a double-decker car in the 70s. Sleeping compartments were located on the first floor, while the second floor was tourist, panoramic - there were only seating areas. Their release was limited - only 16 models. At this, the history of bunk trains was interrupted again to start a new page in our days.

Private trains

Talking about innovations in domestic railways, it should be noted that the first private trains in Russia have recently started to run:

  • Electric train "Transexpress" direction Moscow - Kaluga. Its owner is TransGroup AS, which cost 2 million dollars to produce this vehicle at the Dimikhinsky Machine-Building Plant. There are guards and guards in each of the carriages, so there is no litter, no alcoholic drinks, no smoking, no sales and no begging. One drawback: all cars are of the same class - the third.
  • The private luxury train "Grand Express" runs on the route Moscow - St. Petersburg. The composition is considered the most comfortable in the Russian Federation. Among its services: eco-toilets with heated floors, shower, WI-FI, media player, microclimate system, remote control for lighting control, electronic locks with a magnetic key, call button for the conductor, security service.

  • 4. Electric train "Severstalrels", Moscow - Petersburg. A comfortable electric train with class 1 and 2 carriages, two bar cars. The composition meets all European requirements for comfort and safety, equipped with a climate control system.

Russian Railways and private operators

The appearance of private trains does not in any way cancel the Russian Railways' monopoly. The owners only own the rolling stock or even rent it. At the same time, they pay for the provision of a railway track, dispatching services, locomotive traction. As for the privileged travel of citizens, the new operators have not canceled it yet. So far, there is a tendency that Russian Railways is handing over the most profitable routes to private traders, but the management hopes that in the future non-state trains will also transform unclaimed routes. Recently, a number of innovations can be seen on Russian railways - private trains, double-deck carriages. Of course, disadvantages can be found in everything, but such advances in the modernization of one of the oldest modes of transport in our country cannot but rejoice.
