It helped that they took with them to carry-on luggage flip flops. We took off our sneakers - it felt a little better))) Ten minutes, of course, did not manage, and as a result, we were seated in a minibus an hour later. While we were standing on the street waiting for other tourists to be seated on all buses to other hotels, the thought was in my head that it was necessary to take an individual transfer. So I recommend that you check this point with your travel agent.
At the hotel we were greeted with cool drinks and a cold wet face towel, which was very nice)
Settled pretty quickly. First, they offered a room, leaving from which you can see the cemetery and a balcony overlooking a rather large wall. We politely declined the room. To which we received an answer, good number you need to wait for the eviction of other residents. They said that we would wait. As a result, twenty minutes later we were offered another option - much more successful and we stopped in it.
The room is spacious, with partial ocean and pool views, with a cozy balcony.
Sun beds at the hotel. They have a whole business here. Empty wooden loungers are in many places, not all under umbrellas. If it's a sunny day, then the place should be taken. This is done with pleasure by the pool staff, who are in charge of the beach towels and mattresses. They ask where you can take your place tomorrow and for a symbolic prize of 200 rupees for 2 places they will gladly spread towels where you need them, putting your cream, T-shirt or something else, reminding that the place has already been taken by someone. So on the first day we went in search of sun loungers in good places, and they are all busy and at the same time there is no one to the people)))
Coconates. It is suggested by the same pool workers, you want those that just drink, you want those coconuts that you can drink, and then they will clean it for you to eat the pulp. They asked for 2 dollars for two coconuts. For the locals behind the fence, it is 2 times cheaper. 100 rupees / coconut.
Nutrition. Everything is very tasty and satisfying. Desserts, fruits, meat, fish, soups. We ate our fill every day. Helpful waiters help open doors, sit at the table, quickly take orders for drinks and serve.
Entertainment. On the territory there is a basketball court, yoga classes, water aerobics, etc. For family leisure- norms.
Live music is often played in the lobby in the evenings, which is very pleasant. Several times live music was at the dinner in the restaurant.
It gets dark quite early during this period (October), so at 18.00 it is already dark It seems there are lanterns, but there is no light. We tried to wander around the territory, but quickly curtailed these undertakings.
Ocean. We were not lucky ones who were lucky with the weather and got all the disadvantages of the "off-season" ... Wave, wave, wave. We didn't swim in the ocean. We only went out to wet our feet sometimes. The ocean is dirty. The locals say that the river flows into nearby. Now is the rainy season, there is a lot of water and all the dirt is carried into the ocean. As a result, all the time, some sticks, old coconuts, bottles, buckets and other dirt, of which there are so many here ... where you can swim at this time of the year in the ocean.
Beach. It is municipal here, the hotel has nothing to do with the beach and is fenced off from it by a low fence. Behind him, a bunch of local men and women are vying to grab your attention, offering massages, dinners, excursions, etc. They are not allowed to enter the hotel territory. Communicate with them, they are nice people and will be glad if you contact them. They have their own unspoken order of communication with vacationers. Everyone has their own room and they approach those who leave the fence in turn. Lucky - and you are his client, unlucky - waiting for his turn next time. At first, of course, it scares, it seems that their crowd and everyone needs something from you, but then, you get used to it and they no longer seem so scary)))
Excursions. In Sri Lanka, you need to visit everywhere, because only traveling through this amazing country can you fall in love with it with all your soul and want to come back here. Yes, sometimes it's hard, because trips here are difficult to transfer (you will feel this when you go to the hotel from the airport ..))) But it's worth it. Turtle farm in Bentota, elephant farms, Kandy with tea plantations, etc., etc. WITH hotel guide(Tarang) we did not go, he did not inspire confidence in us. We went with the beachboy Ishui. The guys who rested here a little earlier than we recommended Denis (his cafe is located at the exit from the hotel at the reception, go to the right, reach the nearest intersection and again to the right), Boni (his cafe at the exit from the hotel to the beach, the first on the right is the Little Mermaid) ... The Ishuya we traveled with also works with Boni. Don't go with Valera, it's bad with him ...
Prices. Here you have to bargain !!! If you don’t bargain, they look and call high prices without a twinge of conscience. If you are bargaining, you can always reduce the price.
On a tuk-tuk (for about 300 rupees) you can get to the local town of Kalutaru, get to the local famous Buddhist temple, buy fruits that are not served at the hotel (we took mangosteen all the time).
Animals. We felt like we were in a mini-zoo. Iguanas, chipmunks, and some kind of birds are scurrying everywhere. On weekends, an elephant is shown along the central alley. You can take a picture with her, go for a ride (of course, for a fee). Chipmunks love to eat off their hands. So stock up on seeds from home, they will be grateful. We didn’t know and didn’t bring them with us, so we had to take muesli for breakfast (they also eat it). Then we got to the minimarket, bought peanuts there and fed them nuts until the end of the vacation.
The big drawbacks of the hotel are crows, there are a lot of them, unbearably many. They croak all the time, sometimes even the sound of the ocean is not heard because of their croaking. They say that sometimes fireworks are arranged here to scare them away, but in our time it was not necessary and we were forced to listen to this unbearable croak every day, lying by the pool. They did not hesitate to swim with us in the pool, steal everything that lies on your lounger unattended, shit on the lying linens ((((So you can safely listen to the sound of the surf only in the evening when they sleep)))
And finally. The locals asked us if we had brought vodka and chocolate. They said to our questioning glances that they simply didn’t have vodka, and their chocolate wasn’t sweet, and they asked us to tell you to take such things with you to presentations)

Great hotel. A large, beautiful area is all in palm trees, with monitor lizards, herons, chipmunks, a river pool and a jacuzzi. Pleasant, spacious room with pool and ocean views. The breakfasts are delicious, but monotonous. The staff at the hotel try to fulfill all requests, very helpful. We rented a car, parking is free, convenient. The beach is beautiful with multi-colored sand: yellow, black, turning into burgundy. We rested in December for 8 nights - the ocean was raging, only 1 day we managed to swim enough in our ocean, taking into account the car we visited many beaches of the island, where you could swim and jump on the waves, I really liked the Bentota beach with light sand and turquoise ocean. We visited the zoo, we liked it too. Impressions from the hotel and Sri Lanka are only positive!

Railway line next to the hotel.

The hotel does not have enough sun umbrellas, had to be occupied early in the morning. On our first day at the hotel, we went to the beach after 9-00, there were no free umbrellas, and as a result, we overheated, and had to leave the beach in an hour, and besides, we noticed that the hotel employees, who they are servicing the pool, they have arranged a business out of the use of sun loungers and umbrellas, for a fee they borrow them for tourists. Breakfast at the hotel ends very early at 9-30 - you need to extend at least until 10-30. And the most unusual thing is that on the last day we were persuaded to move to neighboring hotel Tangerine, the hotel needs our room for some reason. As a result of my vacation, I will not be able to recommend the hotel to my friends and relatives, although it is believed that for Sri Lanka this is a good hotel.
What we liked the most about this hotel is the Japanese restaurant - well cooked and excellently served

But we choose this hotel only because in Kalutara we have a friend from our last trip - an excellent guide and a very good person Hasi !!! He has a Matryoshka cafe next to the hotel. In general, the Palm Beach hotel liked its ethnic flavor - figures of elephants, antique furniture, incense. The hotel area is very green. Every day you can see very beautiful Sri Lankan wedding photo sessions - this is something ... !!! The hotel is not new, but sooo atmospheric. We arrived at 6 in the morning, checked in immediately and gave the opportunity to swim and stay on the territory of the hotel until 18.00. on the day of departure, it is convenient. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, the view from all the rooms on the pool and the ocean. Due to the humidity, it is better to choose a room on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The ocean is not for swimming, but it is great !!! We rested in mid-June, the active rainy season. Hotel prices during this period have been reduced by half, showers are short-lived, but strong in the evening and night peoird. True, the moisture ... but the skin from the moisture is just super. We swam only in the pool - it is huge, like a river, clean and runs throughout the entire territory, it's scary in the ocean, you drag out ... In general, this hotel is certainly not 5, but a solid 4. But for the atmosphere and national collorite - confident 5!

We rested at this hotel 4 times from 19 to 29 April 2019. For 10 days everything was fine. However, the whole impression was destroyed in one fell swoop. We contacted the hotel 3 days before check-out with the question of how we can order a transfer. We were told that a day before departure, you can contact the reception and we will be provided with the service. Exactly one day before departure, we contacted, told where and what we needed, we issued an invoice for the transfer in the amount of $ 70. When asked if we could repay the transfer later, they answered positively. Leaving the hotel that day, the local guys offered us a transfer to the airport for $ 40. What was our surprise when, having gone down to the reception at 8 pm to pay the transfer bill, we were solemnly announced with a smile that the car had broken down, but we Well done here, they found you a car "from behind the fence." When asked what the price was, they answered us with a calm face - $ 70, you must pay only in cash and only to the driver. Why should I pay the person who offered me his services for $ 40 in the morning to pay $ 70? After asking why $ 70, and not $ 40, as the person himself suggests, they could not. The employee showed with all his appearance and words - the car broke down, these are your problems, not the problems of the hotel, do what you want. He didn’t care that we were regular guests, that we were choosing their hotel without looking at all those fuckups that we encountered there not for the first time. The most offensive thing is that there was a car on the territory of the hotel, and two more, on the territory of Tangerine, which is also part of this network, but they were not going to provide it. Thanks to the guys from the KingFish cafe, Lahiru and his mother, who at 9 pm were able to find us a transfer within 10 minutes the next morning with a check-out from the hotel at 5 am, the cost of which was $ 50. It is very pleasant when you have known people for 7 years and they are happy to see you, to feed you deliciously, to sew any thing that you want, and are always ready to help in any situation you do not understand.
