Dry-cargo twin-screw motor ship with a tank, aft arrangement engine room, a residential superstructure and a wheelhouse in the middle of the vessel, with a container deck at the tank level and two cargo holds. Designed for transportation of large-capacity 20-foot containers and standard 5-ton containers, general cargo, timber and bulk cargo (grain and coal).

Initially, the ships were supplied to the North-Western River Shipping Company and went, among other things, to Finland by Saimaa Canal, as well as the Belomoro-Onega Shipping Company, Northern river shipping company, Volga Shipping Company, Kama River Shipping Company, Kuban Shipping Company, Ob-Irtysh River Shipping Company, Yenisei River Shipping Company, as well as to Ukraine in Ukrrichflot. In the late 1980s, several ships were built specifically for China.

In the early and mid 90s. almost all ships were re-equipped to improve their seaworthiness, the galleries on the lower deck were closed and a high bulwark was made on the forecastle. Vessels from the Yenisei and Ob-Irtysh shipping lines were transferred to the Mediterranean basin and the Black Sea, and also sent to the Sea of Japan. Many vessels were decommissioned before the early to mid-2000s.

According to the initial project, 326 were built dry cargo ships equipped with two holds with the ability to transport containers. Etc. 326.1 - a modernized version adapted for the carriage of containers in the hold and on hatch covers and featuring modified details of the superstructure and aft hull.

Externally, the vessels of the project 289 are distinguished by a higher superstructure. Ships of late modification (project 787) are equipped with a lifting and lowering deckhouse in the bow and have one hold.

Serial construction. Three modifications of this type were serially built at different periods of time: ships of the project 285 - from 1972 to 1974. (9 units built); vessels of the project 289 - from 1978 to 1980 (10 units built); ships of the project 787 - from 1988 to 1989 (built 8 units). The ships of the project 787 received serial numbers starting from 101.

Spreading. Motor ships of the "Ladoga" type were supplied to the North-Western Shipping Company for operation, mainly in the Baltic Sea, with the possibility of calling river ports Russia and European countries... In the 90s. some ships of early construction were taken over by foreign shipping companies (mainly Estonian). All vessels are currently in service.

Motor ships of the SORMOVSKY type

Description. Motor ships of the SORMOVSKY or LENINSKY KOMSOMOL type of various series (projects 1557, 488 / A, 488 / AM, 488 / AM2, 488 / AM3, 488 / AM4 and 614) are large dry-cargo vessels of the "river-sea" class, having four holds with hatch covers, with a tank and a poop, with double sides and a double bottom, with an engine room and a superstructure in the stern. The ships have a reinforced hull, more advanced equipment, and in many respects borrow the superstructure design from their predecessors. Ships of a later construction have more advanced hold covers, as well as modern wide deckhouse windows. The main series of ships of the "Sormovsky" type is project 1557. Project 614 is a modification of the Bulgarian construction with increased carrying capacity. Project 488 / A and its variants are a modification of a Portuguese building, having a superstructure of a modified design, an elongated hull, increased machine power and carrying capacity, and a reduced camber in the bow. The ships of the project 488 / AM4 are distinguished by a more modern superstructure and the presence of a self-release lifeboat...
