Best ski resort in Georgia- Gudauri

It's really unique place, which is confidently gaining popularity all over the world. The Caucasus mountains conquer with their height (the highest in Europe), amazing panoramas open from here. Even the weather in Gudauri is formed in a special way for mountain ranges... The Arctic wind does not overcome the heights of the mountains, warm sea air "gets" from the south, and snow falls almost every night. The snow cover at the resort is distinguished by its depth (usually up to 2 meters) and stability. Frost is not fierce here, the temperature is always comfortable for skiing and hiking in the mountains. Strong cold winds are rare. The sun practically rests on the untouched "virgin soil" of the slopes, making the snow sparkle with all the colors of the rainbow. Average indicators in January-February do not exceed the mark of - 7-12C.

And how do you like the opportunity to make a dizzying descent not along the route that you have, but along the one you have always dreamed of? This is possible in Gudauri! You will not be allowed such "liberty" anywhere else in Europe.

The absence of sharp stones on the "virgin land" and the tracks turned this resort into a "Mecca" for freeriding. Nature itself took care of this, creating Better conditions for off-piste skiing in Gudauri. The cost of freeride programs for 1 person starts at 120 lari ($ 44.4).

Perfectly prepared tracks, slopes for both beginners and professionals, a modern snow park for skiers and snowboarders - the Gudauri resort has become a real "star" winter holiday in Georgia.

Only here you will see prepared tracks up to 200m wide, which are equal to snow groomers twice a day. And the width of the slopes reaches 5 km. These vast expanses are ready to receive tourists from mid-December, providing a stable snow cover. Another feature of this resort is the avalanche stability, thanks to the unique relief. So you can safely ride without fear for your life and expensive equipment. It is especially worth noting the variety of rope lifts, here you can reach the desired height in closed and open boxes.

Attracts leisure, stunning nature and freedom of choice - Gudauri ski resort is perfect for you!

Everything for the demanding tourist!

Why is this resort loved by extreme lovers, abandoning "conservative" Europe? The secret is simple - backcountry and heli-skiing is flourishing in the vicinity of Gudauri. This is a unique opportunity to descend from a great height along unprepared slopes. Backcountry assumes that you will get to the place of descent on your own without lifts, conquering the selected slope. Well, here a lot of opportunities open up - unique landscapes, exciting adventures, traveling with a whole company and, of course, an independent choice of a slope.
No desire to get up yourself? Heli-skiing is at your service - a skier's ascent to the starting point by helicopter, which will allow you to conquer any peak inaccessible to other snowboarders and skiers. It is this service that gives tourists the opportunity to ride through the magnificent snow-covered fields of the Cross Pass. In Gudauri, this all becomes a reality.

The cost of heli-skiing varies depending on the mountain chosen, the flight time and the number of hours. Tours are organized in Gudauri by two companies Wucher and Heliksir. The cost of a one-day program starts at 2027 lari (750 $). This includes descents, the necessary equipment, a professional instructor, 2 guides, a helicopter flight to the place of descent. Multi-day tours for a group of tourists are possible - the cost is 3 days, for example, taking into account escort professional guides, provision of equipment, etc. will be about 9459 lari (3500 $).

Helicopter "ride" lasting 10 minutes for 5 people in the most beautiful places - about 1757 lari (650 $). You can choose any date, book your flight in advance. The main thing is that the weather in Gudauri remains clear for 10 days, then nothing will interfere with your adventures.

If you want to see the stunning panoramas of the mountains, you can take a breathtaking paragliding flight. There is an opportunity to fly with an instructor from Mount Kudebi for 200 GEL (74 $). This is 15 minutes of unforgettable impressions and a powerful adrenaline rush! For only 350 lari ($ 129.5) you can take a paragliding trip to the picturesque Aragvi gorge, it will take about 25 minutes.

22 certified tracks, a separate area for snowmobiling, exciting tubing (inflatable sledges are absolutely free throughout the resort) and almost 400 m of towers for them - no one will be bored here!

What you can see near the resort:

Gudauri - description of the resort

The resort itself is a small settlement in the Kazbek region. It arose on the slopes of the Caucasus Range (south) at an altitude of about 2000 m above the sea. The distance from Tbilisi to Gudauri is about 130 km, to Batumi - 440 km. The settlement can be divided into 3 parts:

Upper Gudauri

This area stretches above the main buildings, rushes up the road (Georgian military). Perhaps the most comfortable part of the resort. From numerous hotels, you can get to the ski lifts (distance from 50m to 900m) in 2-10 minutes. The road to the center of the settlement along an excellent asphalt track will take 15 minutes, and if you move along the ski track - only 8 minutes. There are signs everywhere, it is impossible to get lost. If you wish, you can call a taxi - from 3 lari ($ 1.11). Upper Gudauri has a huge advantage - from almost every hotel you can independently go down to the track on a snowboard or ski. It is also convenient to return - you can go on virgin soil or along a prepared track. Well, the views that open from here are difficult to convey in words!

Lower Gudauri

This area is considered the center of the resort. There is a police department, a decent market, a bank with a currency exchange. In this place . The largest is Marco Polo. From it there is a cable car to New Gudauri (webcam will allow you to view this area of the resort). The distance to the ski lifts is about 500-600 m, can be reached on foot (10-15 minutes). Hotel owners offer transportation to their customers on a daily basis. Living in Lower Gudauri, you have a great opportunity admire the stunning panorama of the Aragvi Gorge and Mount Shele.

To the south of this part of the resort there is a road that runs off in a steep serpentine down to the village of Kumplistsikhe. These two villages are often considered a single whole, because there are many hotels in Kumplistsikhe for comfortable accommodation of tourists. The hotels are built along the main road (the Georgian military road). If you move to the west from this transport artery, you will see the Aragvi gorge, its steep cliffs. On the eastern side of the road there is a gentle rise, it bends slightly to the north and leads directly to Mount Sadzele.

In Kumplistsikhe there is a tourist information center (in the very center), where you can clarify information of interest about rest, the work of lifts. Find out when the season starts in Gudauri. In this village there is the lowest lift station, equipment rental service (skis and snowboards).

Akhali Gudauri (New)

This area is considered the heart of the whole resort due to its favorable location. It is located near the second lift. and the most expensive housing in Gudauri, but living here is also the most comfortable in terms of location to highways and infrastructure and distance from the road (no noise of "civilization" is heard).

New Gudauri is being actively built, but today there is a decent supermarket with reasonable prices and its own bakery. The restaurant "Gudauri" is also located here, overlooking the cable car station (covered cabins). You can have a very tasty meal in the new Disi cafe. There is an excellent menu and affordable prices, you can drink excellent coffee (Turkish) for only 2 lari ($ 0.74). The institution is located on the street. Novogudaurskaya at the very end of the avenue.

Getting to know lifts and cable cars

Do you still have doubts about going to this amazing resort? Appreciate the beauty yourself - in Gudauri, an online webcam gives this opportunity at any time of the day. After admiring the breathtaking mountains and choosing the right hotel, it's time to familiarize yourself with the resort's cable cars:

Cable car number 1–The length is 1010m, it is three-seat. It starts from the Marco Polo hotel (the lower part of the resort) and takes tourists to the transfer station in New Gudauri. The cable car serves only one ski slope, which bears the same name "the first".

Cable car number 2 length 2310m, it is the longest in the resort. It starts in New Gudauri and will take you to a dizzying height of 2700m. It is here that a strategically important object is located - a small site on the side of a mountain. Two more branch off from here cable cars up. The Vitamin cafe, well-known in the region and throughout Georgia, is also located here. Tourists love this place for its delicious cuisine and stunning mountain views. The facade of the cafe is glazed, so you can sit comfortably on the sofas and enjoy the beauty of the Caucasus Mountains! A gondola cable car leads to this area near the cafe.

Gondola (cabin) cable car these are comfortable "boxes", fully glazed. It starts from the center of new Gudauri (near Gudauri Palace). She will take you to the upper station (Vitamin cafe). Climbing this road is a very pleasant pastime, even if you don't plan on skiing. It is warm inside the cabin, there is no wind, you can admire the snow-capped peaks of the mountains for a long time, survey the whole resort. The gondola road intersects with road number 2, that is, on it you will get along the same route, but more comfortable. Another road starts on the slope, leading towards Sadzele Mountain. There is a desire to have a bite - at your service is a small cafe "Megobari". Its peculiarity is that the tables are placed directly on the street, so that you can bask in the warm sun.

The cabins run also in summer, allowing you to admire the riot of greenery and the splendor of the mountain ranges.

The upper station is a kind of "square" embraced by the slopes of three mountains: Udebi, Sadzele, Bidara, there are no lifts here. But it is from two cafes that additional cable cars are provided:

Cable car number 3 it is called the Kuleb lift. The structure is three-seat, its length is 1060m. The road starts from "Vitamin" and takes you to Mount Kulebi. Here trails for professionals begin, amazing views open up, elevation differences on the trails are clearly visible. Having reached Kudebi, tourists will be able to climb the ridge itself, and its slopes are simply adored by freeriders for the opportunity to lay a new track on untouched snow.

Ropeway No. 4 and No. 5. The fourth road starts from the gondola station at the top and goes to Mount Sadzele, to the very foot. It is here that the easiest trail for beginners is laid. The fifth road starts at the upper station of the fourth and takes you to the last cable car in the resort (Sadzele peak). Well, and here real paradise for first-class professionals - two super-difficult slopes ("black" slopes).

Ropeway this is a lift for beginners, the length is short. Lower station is located in Akhali Gudauri right between the stations of cable car No. 2 and the gondola lift. The peculiarity of this road is that it is located far from the main tracks and lifts, so that the best conditions for learning and the first experience of skiing are created for beginners.

The Georgian ski resort of Bakuriani is located next to the urban-type settlement of the same name. It is located on the northern slope of the Trialeti Range of the Caucasus Mountains at an altitude of 1700 m, in the Borjomi Gorge.

The health resort Borjomi and the ski resort Bakuriani are connected by a road and a narrow-gauge railway. And the bridge between the cities was designed by Gustave Eiffel himself. Since 1902, a train has been running along this route, which has been stuck with the popular name "cuckoo".

Bakuriani is the oldest ski resort within the Caucasus Mountains. In the 19th century it served as an imperial residence.

At one time, the Bakuriani ski resort claimed to host the Winter Olympic Games. Within the territory of resort complex there are high-altitude open and closed skating rinks and ice skating competitions and hockey matches are held.

How to get there

From Tbilisi to the Bakuriani ski resort - 180 km. The transfer is expensive, it is better to take a taxi (from Didube metro to the doors of any hotel - 150-200₾). Buses and minibuses run.
Another option is first by train to Borjomi, then by train to Bakuriani. The latter runs 2 times a day. Taxi from Borjomi - 30₾.

In winter months, the average daytime temperature is -2 ... -4 ⁰С, at night -5 ... -7 ⁰С. The weather is mostly calm, and the number of sunny, cloudy and cloudy days is approximately the same.

The snow cover is about 65 cm. The skiing season is from November to the end of March. February is the optimal time for skiing in the Bakuriani ski resort in Georgia.

Trails and lifts

The difference in heights is from 1780 to 2850 m. The Didveli site is still at the stage of development.

The scheme of the slopes of the Bakuriani ski resort

Experienced skiers ride the slopes of Mount Kokhta. One and a half kilometer Kokhta-1 has a difficult section in the first 400 m (black track), the slope there reaches 52⁰. Further the track is red. Both of these tracks are for professionals. Kokhta-2, three kilometers long, also consists of two sections, red and blue; those who are confident on skis can ski here.

For those who begin their acquaintance with alpine skiing - the "Plateau" track with gentle and short slopes. The length of the Bakuriani routes is about 5 km. In recent years, the resort has been expanding, new facilities are being built.

Lifts: 4 drag lifts for children, the Tatra cable car (1600 m), a 2-seater chairlift (1200 m) and a drag lift 1400 meters long.

Housing, infrastructure, interesting things

Accommodation in Bakuriani can be rented from 100-150₾ (in a small hotel), in a 4-star European level room costs 200-300₾, and in most cases three meals a day are included in the price. IN ski resort there is a library, tennis courts, several cafes, restaurants and taverns.

The layout of the hotels in the ski resort Bakuriani

There is order on the territory of the hotels, but in the vicinity of the village, according to numerous reviews of vacationers, the infrastructure does not reach European standards. But this is compensated by walks and excursions in the picturesque surroundings: to the Borjomi springs, to mountain lake Tabatskuri, in the Bakurianitskali gorge, in the medieval cave monastery Vardzia, to the ancient Georgian temple Timotesubani.

Hatsvali and Tetnuldi - new ski resorts in Svaneti

A significant number of alpine skiing enthusiasts decide to ski on the slopes of this resort region of Georgia. Acquaintance with him begins with the city of Mestia - a ski resort in the north-west of Georgia. Located close to Abkhazia. It opened quite recently, but is already popular among skiers in many countries.

Clean, healthy air and breathtaking landscapes, excellent equipment of ski lifts and slopes (new French equipment is installed here) in the near future promises to turn this place into a high-class ski resort of European level.

In the meantime, the infrastructure here is not yet developed at a sufficient level, but the plans for the development of alpine skiing in Svaneti are serious.

Hatsvali

It is only 8 km from Mestia to Hatsvali, which good weather easily overcome by car and on foot, despite the ascent angle of 7-8⁰. In winter and spring, you need an SUV to climb. Transfer from Mestia to Hatsvali in 7-8 local Mitsubishi Delica costs $ 30.

Skiers began to explore the slopes of the resort in 2011.

The difference in height is 1865-2447 meters. The lower station has a hotel, restaurant and rental shop. You can get to the upper station in 20 minutes in 4 chair cabins, the length of the cable car is 1400 m.

Riding on alpine skiing starts from the Zuruldi cafe at the upper station. There are not many routes yet, but new ones are being built. Now red and blue are in operation (maximum length 2600 m). There are 2 drag lifts on the trail for beginners and children (300 and 600 m). Hatsvali - perfect place for freeride and backcountry in Georgia.

In summer, sightseers are taken to the upper station to the café site to breathe in the mountain air, drink coffee and look at the mountains. Here is the starting point to start trekking in several interesting directions.

Tetnuldi

The youngest Georgian ski resort in Svaneti. Opened in February 2016, it is located on the slope of Mount Tetnuld (4869 m). The resort is also not far from Mestia - only 15 km. The carrying capacity is 7 thousand visitors. The difference in elevation here is 2260 m. Above the sea level. sea (lower station) - 3040 m (upper station). The tracks are blue. The longest of them is 9.5 km.

The scheme of the slopes of the Tetnuldi ski resort

There are three lifts so far - 3 chairlifts of the French company POMA. The plans include the construction of 16 tracks of varying difficulty and the expansion of the ski area to 35 km, the development of freeride. All this should seriously compete with the big Georgian resorts.

Riding in Tetnuldi starts from the end of December and ends by the end of March.

Infrastructure

Massage salons and SPA, discos and children's centers, European-level hotels and first-class restaurants, billiard rooms and other signs of a civilized resort place - this is not yet what Svaneti can provide to guests with great demands.

Svaneti hotel room for 35 $

The ski resort is still under development, and the infrastructure of Svaneti is at an initial level. At the foot of Khatsaveli and Mount Tetnuld, in the immediate vicinity of the skiing areas, there is not a large selection of accommodation. Most of the guests rent it in Mestia and get to the tracks by transfer from hotels or by their own cars.

A hotel in Mestia can be rented for $ 25-30 per day (breakfast included), and with breakfast and dinner for $ 30-40.

The prices in guesthouses are more democratic: $ 10-15 and $ 20-30, respectively.

Ski pass prices

For the 2016-2017 season, the price tag is the same for the Hatsaveli and Tetnuldi tracks, and lower than at the two largest Georgian resorts.

  • 1 ascent costs 5 GEL, a ski pass for 1 day - 25 GEL, for 2-7 days 50-145₾.
  • If you want to skate not in a row, but on any 5 days a week to choose from, buy a ski pass for 122₾.
  • Pay 300 GEL for a ski pass for the whole season, 180₾ for students and children.
  • The cost of the ski pass in the "low season" from 13.03 to 13.04 is 180₾.

If you are going to ride longer, so as not to return to Mestia every day, you can rent a guesthouse in Danisparauli, 3 km from the meadow for 40-45 GEL with two meals a day. Another option: to settle in one of the cottages in the meadow for 100 GEL (double room) or 150 - in a four-bed room. You have to pay extra for meals in cottages.

Goderdzi

The youngest ski resort in Georgia, opened on December 10, 2016. Goderzi is located 110 km from Batumi. The road is asphalt (40 km. To Keda), the rest is unpaved, it takes about 4-5 hours.

The scheme of the slopes of the Goderzi ski resort

The ski slopes here are good for beginners, flat and wide. Gondola lift, while two stages have been launched. Construction of several more tracks is in the wounds. The ride is pleasant, the snow is fluffy, the ate is snowy, between the trails rare forest. Good conditions for freeride. Almost all descents start right from the lifts.

There is a rental ski equipment... Two hotels, the old "Meteo", and the new "Goderdzi" hotel is being finished. There is also the only operating cafe. There are no shops and pharmacies at all yet, you need to take everything with you from Batumi.

For 500 GEL (student - 280 GEL) there is an opportunity to purchase a single Ski pass, which will be valid at all resorts during the season.

Gudauri is a Georgian city where rest begins in winter time of the year. Officially, the season in the resorts lasts from December to mid-April.

- there are no trees on the slopes ⠀
- countless peaks of mountains in the distance ⠀

In addition: ⠀
- a lot of snow ⠀
- a retrack was seen working during the day ⠀
- interruptions with cable cars ⠀
- an abundance of taxi drivers ⠀
- nowhere to walk in the evening ⠀
- a modest offer of leisure in the evening ⠀
- in a cafe is more expensive than in Tbilisi ⠀
- the level of restaurants is average and below ⠀
- nature is almost virgin, real Georgian mountains and all the beauty, at a glance ⠀

Andrei and I went to the Gudauri ski resort for 5 days, and we allocated one day to Tbilisi.

This post will focus on Gudauri.

Beautiful landscapes, snow and mountains around, many ski lifts, a variety of trails and delicious food. So I would briefly describe this place.

Living among the mountains is generally wonderful. The day lasts longer than in St. Petersburg: it starts to get light at 8, and it gets dark only at 5 pm. Since we got up at 8:30 and went to bed at 9-10, we could have a good rest and wake up enjoying the endless views of the mountains around. We recovered very quickly, despite the fatigue and numerous falls for the first couple of days.

You can get to Gudauri by minibus for 7 GEL for one. The minibus departs from Didube station, runs approximately every 2 hours. The journey takes about three hours. Also, at the exit from the metro, you are met by Georgians who offer to take you to Gudauri for 20 GEL per person. They pick up a minivan and fly to the resort in 1.5 hours. Taxi drivers indicate the price of 200 GEL.

The hotel we chose was with breakfasts and dinners. The food is delicious, varied and homemade. So we really liked it.

Snowboards were rented. In one day, 30 lari came out for one person, which is about 750 rubles. This includes snowboard, goggles, boots. If we took for one day per person, it would be more expensive, about 40 GEL. That is, the more days and people rent skis or boards, the more discount you will be given. Only a passport was accepted as collateral. Lifts (ski passes) for 5 days cost 456 GEL for two, and you could ride as much as you like. After talking with one of the Ukrainians (there were many Russians, Ukrainians and, of course, Georgians, fewer people from Europe), we learned that at one of the ski resorts in Ukraine it is so much more expensive that it is cheaper to go to Georgia than to ski there. As he said, there on $ 500 you can hardly afford anything. Here, in Gudauri, we got everything for $ 600-700: accommodation, food, entertainment.

photo: missfech In the Gudauri mountains in winter 2019

Of all that we planned, we were not looking for anything in Gudauri. All offers themselves poured in to us. We did not have time to look around where to get snowboards, a girl comes up to us and offers rental services. We just approached the lift, we were offered a paraglider. By the way, the cost of paragliding is 250 GEL, this is the standard price for everyone who offers. But we were given a discount😉

The main language that we heard around was Russian. The older and middle generation knows Russian almost perfectly. English is spoken less ... yet. We were also pinned by the appeal. When Andrey and I arrived at the first hotel in Spain, the appeal was Senior. It was so funny that I called Andrey a senior for a long time. When we rented snowboards, Andrey was asked the question: "What is your last name, brother?" 😆 We almost tore up there

People are open-minded, you can easily find out everything, find friends, chat in one of the cafes during a break between skiing. By the way, as far as Georgians are concerned, we noticed that the women whom we asked questions (at the hotel, at the rental), answered in great detail and, in addition, gave a lot of information. The men answered the question briefly, no more and no less.

Also, as we understand, no one is used to braids and dreadlocks there. So from time to time I was there as an alien for them, and some put their children to be photographed with me 😅

There were more skiers on the slopes than snowboarders. Approximate ratio 70/30. However, the higher we climbed, the number of snowboarders grew. It was also surprising for me that a lot of people, especially on the lowest hill, walked on foot, could walk in the middle, and even with children. Apparently they didn't really care that half of the people on that descent did not understand what they were doing.

The lifts worked from 10 am to 4 pm. The slopes were not lit. I don’t know, it’s the whole season or only at the beginning 🤔 The opening hours of the lifts were not indicated anywhere, so it’s better to ask. We made a descent in the distance from our place, the lifts were closed, after which we and several other people went on foot to look for the descent leading to our hotel. Next time we will take a personal skier to drag us to small climbs 😄 ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Apart from skiing / snowboarding / paragliding / quads and walking, there is nothing else to do there, so it was extremely easy to go to bed early and comply with the schedule. There is also a supermarket and Dunkin'Donuts with donuts and khachapuri in Gudauri.
To summarize, I can say that we really enjoyed snowboarding all day long with such beauty around.

Gudauri is a wonderful resort that combines ski slopes different levels, suitable for both beginners (tested on myself) and for experienced skiers and snowboarders❗☺️

Especially for you, we talked with guests who came here from different countries on the winter holiday to ask if they liked this town and how loyal the prices are in their opinion❗☺️

It turned out that in the overwhelming majority of cases, despite the incredible panorama of the Caucasian ridge and the excellent development of the resort, there is quite a reasonable prices for sports equipment, instructors and lifts (compared to other ski resorts) ❗🤭

As for accommodation, the situation here turned out to be ambiguous: there are luxury hotels with an all-inclusive program, and there are also available hotels / apartments / guest houses, although the latter need to be booked long before arriving here, otherwise only “ cream ", which not everyone can afford, if we talk about the long term❗☺️

As for food, prices in the central store "Smart" are more than acceptable and hardly differ from those in the capital, despite the fact that they are resort area, so you can definitely go here with the whole family and spend active holidays in the high mountains❗😁

Already filmed in a Russian film about love. Which with an accent ;-)

The Gudauri ski resort is not yet so famous among skiers. And when last season there happened an unpleasant story with a jammed lift, many did not even understand where it happened, because the name of the resort is not on everyone's lips yet. And by the way, many wrote to me then - what happened to the cable car there, what a horror! Because they reasoned like this: was it said in the news about a ski resort in the Caucasus? Yeah, that means Krasnaya Polyana.

And for those who remembered the name, now the question is - is it worth going there? Therefore, today I want to say a few words in defense of Gudauri, because I was there and I liked it.

From this article you will learn how to get to the resort, how much it will cost to stay there, and why it is worth getting to know this place better.

When does the ski season start

The Gudauri resort is located on the slope of the Greater Caucasus Range and is famous for its mild climate, absence of frost in winter and icy winds.

The season in Gudauri starts at the end of December and lasts until the end of April. But the first snow may fall already in October. And sometimes the season is closed on May holidays.

In this case, tourists will be met in the terminal building and taken directly to the place of the planned vacation. The cost of the trip will depend on the number of people and the type of transport:

Transfer from Vladikavkaz takes longer - due to crossing the border with vehicle, and the road is sometimes closed due to snowfalls in the area of the Cross Pass. So in this regard, it is easier and more convenient to fly to Tbilisi.

Regular buses run to Gudauri. But they do not go from the airport, but from the bus station, which is also not close to get to. Trails in Gudauri

Gudauri has a good variety of tracks. The lower station of the lift is at an altitude of 1990m, and the upper one is at 3307m. The length of the tracks is 50 km. The total number of tracks is 22.

In the summer of 2018, work began on the construction of a new gondola cable car Kobi-Gudauri, preparations are underway for the launch of artificial snowmaking of the second stage.

But most of all, the resort is popular with those skaters who prefer freeride - i.e. off-piste skiing. Wide slopes located above the forest level and accessible directly from the lifts, the absence of large stones and precipices, combined with heavy snowfalls and varied terrain - all this makes Gudauri a paradise for riders!

Local guides will gladly show you the fields and lobbies with untouched snow. In addition, groups are organized for ski tours... In addition, Georgia is one of the countries where heli-skiing is allowed. There is an evening skiing.

You can find the optimal ski insurance and pay for the policy here: Travel insurance

What to do after skiing

Of course, Gudauri is not Courchevel or even Krasnaya Polyana. Therefore, you should not expect a stormy evening (and night) program from him. There are no shopping malls, skating rinks, bowling alleys, water parks and other "bourgeois" delights.

You can relax after skiing in one of the pools:

  • Pool and Spa-center in New Gudauri Building 2.
  • Swimming pool and Spa-center in New Gudauri Suites.
  • Pool and Spa-center in the Mgzavrebi house.
  • Pool and Spa Center at the Marco Polo Hotel

In the evening, the entire active public in Gudauri moves to bars and restaurants ... But with them there is complete order! The resort presents both establishments with gorgeous service and an impressive (both in terms of prices and assortment) menu, as well as democratic cafe-bars:

  • Powder Bar House of Burjanadz - craft Georgian beer, European cuisine;
  • Pasanauri Restaurant- Kartvelian cuisine: soup-kharcho, ruddy khachapuri different types, eggplant rolls and vegetable salad with walnuts. Khinkali is cooked here not only for meat, but also with cheese and potatoes; ojakhuri - with meat or mushrooms;
  • Club-2100 hotel restaurant- Georgian and European cuisine, all this is accompanied beautiful panorama the Caucasus mountains;
  • Hotel LODGE Restaurant - folk Georgian cuisine in European style; from 8.30 to 10.00 and from 17.00 to 19.00. a buffet is organized, to which guests of other hotels can also come,
  • Hreki tavern - Georgian cuisine at affordable prices, a specialty called Khreki (40 GEL) is designed for a company of 4-5 people and is a cold cuts - quail, chicken, veal, beef with potatoes, tomatoes.

Of course, not a single meal in Georgia is complete without the use of wine. Quite normal Georgian wine is sold at 4-5 GEL per bottle.

If you need something stronger, feel free to order local cognac or chacha. Experienced "tasters" strongly advise buying "David Sarajishvili" cognac "Askaneli". These are the best cognacs in Georgia. Chacha is a moonshine made from grapes. Chacha is drunk easily and naturally. But the head will still hurt in the morning.

To our surprise, in a country famous for its wines, beer is also eagerly drunk. Especially in a ski resort, especially young people.

What to see if you get tired of riding

If you get tired of riding or the weather will be “bad”, then from Gudauri you can organize the following exciting excursion routes :

  • in Kazbegi, which is located 50 km from Gudauri.
  • to the Zhinvali reservoir and the Annanuri fortress,
  • in the Truso gorge
  • in Tbilisi, finally ...

All this can be viewed from good guides which will show you the most interesting angles and tell a fascinating story about each place.

In general, if you wish, you can organize yourself a decent apres-ski in Gudauri.

And if we start getting to know ski Georgia then it is better to start with Gudauri.

So, I got the following list of reasons in favor of Gudauri:

  1. This is one of the most interesting ski resorts both on and off the pistes.
  2. At the moment, the resort is actively developing. Of course, in terms of infrastructure development, it is still inferior to alpine resorts, but in terms of off-piste skiing opportunities, the amount of snow and, most importantly, the price level, this is very interesting option among all other resorts of the Caucasus!
  3. Here you will fully experience the flavor of Georgia, with all that it implies: there will be hospitality of the locals, and their pride in their country, and a lot of wine and other drinks ...
  4. Beautiful views. Yes, the mountains of the Caucasus are all very beautiful, and they are all very different. So, in Gudauri it is really not a view, then a postcard.
