Viewpoint on Phi Phi Island

In order to get to the observation deck of Phi Phi Island, located at an altitude of 186 meters above sea level, you need to go in the direction of Lo Dalam Bay and turn right at the intersection near the PP Casita hotel, continuing along the signs that will lead to the desired place ... In the early 90s, several tourist paths appeared here, as well as a small shop where tourists could buy drinking water, which comes in handy. In 1994, by the decision of the Thai government, comfortable concrete steps were built here, which led to the observation deck from the territory of the Phi Phi Villa Bungalows. Along with this, shops gradually began to appear on the top of the hill, and it was decided to green the deserted area and turn it into nice park... Later, the View Point shop appeared here.
The view from the observation deck is breathtaking. The observation deck offers panoramic views of Phi Phi Le Island, as well as Lo Dalam Bay and Tonsai. Also, from the top of the hill in good weather you can see the island of Phuket from Big Buddha sitting on it. It is especially pleasant to enjoy the panoramic view of the bay and neighboring islands, lying in the hammocks that are stretched on the observation deck. One of them is the observation deck at Lo Ba Kao, in the northern part of the bay on the western slope of the hill. The two-hundred-meter stepped path starts up near the Aroi Dee restaurant. Depending on the level of physical fitness, the way to the top will take tourists about twenty to thirty minutes. Having reached this observation deck, tourists can enjoy the views of Lo Lana Bay and Lo Ba Khao. Another observation deck on Phi Phi Island is a platform in the southern part of Lo Ba Khao Bay. You can climb here both by steps and by a special lift. You can get here from the restaurant of the Villa 360 Koh Phi Phi hotel. Archipelago infrastructure

Tips for those planning to visit the Phi Khi Archipelago.

  1. Self-guided excursions are life-threatening. Based on this, you should visit the islands only in a group excursion.
  2. There are few catering facilities in the archipelago. Mostly they are located on the island of Phi Phi Don. Therefore, it is recommended to stock up on provisions in advance. It is worth considering that Thai cuisine or unleavened flatbreads prevail among the dishes in public catering on the islands.
  3. There are recreational facilities (bathrooms) on every island, but at first they are very surprising and disappointing.
  4. Tourist accommodation ( hotel complexes) are located only on the island of Phi Phi Don. There are practically no places to stay on the rest of the islands. There are only bamboo bungalows.
  5. Transport infrastructure: boat traffic between the islands and air communication with the mainland by small helicopters or planes of a local airline.

Observation Decks- the main attraction of Phi Phi. They are a must-see if you want to see the island from a bird's eye view, the surrounding panoramic views are really very beautiful.

The main observation platforms three and they are all east of and. They can be called official, because signs hang everywhere and they are numbered: View Point-1 (lower observation deck), View Point-2 (middle), View Point-3 (uppermost). In addition, there are excellent views from the hotels located in the hills. There is one more site, which few people get to and which is located not far from an artificial reservoir. We will now tell about all of them.

View Point 1

It is the lowest and you can reach it in 5 minutes along the steps starting next to the guesthouse. Climbing up, you will pass several more guest houses. The last will be (excellent views also open from its windows). From here to the observation deck 2 minutes.

Next to the last step is a usher who collects 20 baht for the entrance. This is motivated by the fact that there is a private territory and money is spent on maintaining cleanliness. Nearby there are a dozen houses where you can stay, there is a tour desk and a massage parlor. In principle, the observation deck is not so high and the views are mediocre. It is better to walk 5-7 minutes to the second site - this is where the review is really cool.

View point 2

The main observation deck or just the observation deck No. 2 (it is written on all signs of View Point-2) is the most visited and this is not for nothing - it offers a stunning view of Phi Phi Island and the village of Tonsai. Here you can have a snack or a drink. There is a massage parlor. There are a lot of people in the evenings, because everyone comes to see the sunset (it gets dark after 18-18: 15). But those who want to get up early and see the sunrise over Phi Phi are usually not found. The rest of the time there are few people - 2-3 people or no one at all (especially in low season).

From View Point 1 there is an asphalt path half a meter wide.

How to get there

1. Get from the Tonsai village.

There is a sign to the observation decks and steps leading upward begin. Climb them. You will pass a few more guesthouses. The last will be, from the territory of which a good view already opens.

In a few minutes, find yourself at the entrance to the first observation deck. A man sits at the entrance and collects an environmental fee of 20 baht. Further up there is an asphalt path half a meter wide, which will take you to the place in 5-7 minutes.

2. Take the road from the Valentine Bungalow.

You can also get there in the second way, which, by the way, is better known than the previous one and for the first time many tourists climb the mountain along this route.

The second road starts just behind. These bungalows are a dozen yellow one-story houses, standing in one row along the road. After the last house, the road turns to the left. It is a wide paved highway.

Immediately you will see - the only one on Phi Phi. Immediately after him, the road goes uphill. On the left there will be a small artificial reservoir (not to be confused with a huge reservoir, next to the Loh Moo Dee beach) and a small boxing ring.

An asphalt road leads to the opposite side of the island (just in time for). You only need to walk along it for 10-15 minutes to the fork with a sign: to the left - View point 1-2-3, to the right - to Loh Moo Dee 3 km. You need to turn left onto an unpaved dirt road through the forest.

In 10-15 minutes you will see a small Thai settlement, and in another five minutes turn left under the View point 2. And in a minute you will be on the observation deck №2. If you go to the right, then after 10 minutes go to the observation deck №3.

Most importantly, do not forget, there are signs everywhere, follow them and you will get to any place on Phi Phi Don.

View point 3

Vantage point is a 10 minute walk from the second. There are signs (View point-3). A huge tower will serve as a landmark (it is visible from many points on the island), it is next to it that this place is located. Halfway from the second to the third site, there are several Thai houses and a bar where you can cool off from the road. It even has a TV.

Although the third observation deck is the highest, the panorama from it to Loh Dalum and Tonsai opens worse than from the second. The fact is that here the trees somewhat obstruct the view and the village of Tonsai is only partially visible. But excellent views of the western part of Phi Phi and the nearest islands.

Here you will not be offered drinks and massage, as in the first two. It is not equipped in any way, except for a small gazebo, where a hammock sometimes hangs. There are very few people for the simple reason that it is not so easy to find it (many generally believe that the second site is the last and there is nothing higher).

Here you can also see the sunset, but the main thing is to leave on time, without waiting for complete darkness. Otherwise, you will have to return down through the jungle, where you cannot see a single zgi. And in the dark and on the snake it is not long and you can twist your foot on steep slopes. If you have a flashlight, be sure to take it with you.

Observation deck next to the reservoir

Few people know about it, and the views from it do not open to the beaches and neighboring islands, and on an artificial lake. There are no gazebos and nothing at all except huge blue water tanks.

How to get there

1. From Tonsai pier and the center of the island.

On the road that leads to the center of Phi Phi Island and starts just behind the yellow bungalows. An additional landmark can be located at the beginning of the road. The road to the artificial lake coincides with the one that leads to Long Beach on Phi Phi through the center of the island (point number 6 in the article).

The road is asphalt and wide. Go upstairs along it without turning anywhere. In 10-15 minutes from it there will be a branch to the main observation platforms 1-2-3 (there is still a sign: to the left - View point 1-2-3, to the right - Long Beach and Loh Moo Dee 3 km). On your right, take the asphalt road to Loh Moo Dee beach). In 10-15 minutes the asphalt will end and you will see an artificial reservoir (on the way you will pass a cottage-type settlement).

As you came to this lake, then go to the right and then to the left (along the sandy road next to it). As the lake ends, you will see a fork. If you go straight, you can walk to Long Beach and Loh Moo Dee. If you go to the right and up, then in a couple of minutes you will find yourself on the observation deck.

2.From Loh Moo Dee Beach.

To do this, go through the palm grove and climb the path up. As you find yourself at the fork, choose the path to the right (if you go straight, you will find yourself on Long Beach in 5 minutes) - this path will lead you to an artificial lake in 5 minutes. Before reaching the lake, go up the road leading slightly to the left and up.

3.From Long Beach.

Go to the observation deck from the western side of Long Beach (this side is the closest to Tonsai). From the beach, climb up a narrow path with rope handrails. You will see two roads. If you go left, you will come to the Viking Hotel, but the path to the right is what you need.

There is only one road here, so you are unlikely to get confused. On the way you will come across a house (in 2012 it was just under construction). Immediately after it, the road divides into two: to the right and up - to the observation deck (you will reach in 1-2 minutes), to the left and down - to the Tonsai beach (go to the coast near the only school on Phi Phi).

One of the important attractions of Phi Phi is the observation deck at an altitude of 186 meters, which I visited during my vacation on the island.

The site consists of 3 levels: one is located above the other. To get to that very incredible view, I had to work a little. Namely, to survive a good cardio workout while climbing up a very narrow and steep staircase.

Considering that I did it in the morning and it was very hot, it was even harder.

After climbing the stairs, I was greeted by the ticket office, where I bought a ticket for 30 baht (approximately 0.80 euros) and slowly headed to View point 1. It is interesting that the observation deck at each level is decorated with bright sculptures in the form of vegetables or animals. Also on the first level you can take a photo with the letters “I love Phi-Phi”. As far as the view is concerned, it is beautiful: an isthmus between two beaches can be seen. And it is interesting that the water is dark blue on one side and bright turquoise on the other. From here you can see palm forests and cliffs in the distance.

The second point was located slightly higher. The road to it was already smoother and less steep. At point view 2 there is a mini-cafe where you can buy soft drinks like cocktails, soda and eat ice cream. Of course, you won't be able to eat thoroughly here.

I also went to the souvenir market, which sold magnets, cards with the image of the island, as well as various accessories.

I didn't climb to the third point, as it became unbearably hot: the sun was blazing with all its might and I wanted to hide in the shadow, which was nowhere to be found on the site.

I very much regretted that I had not come to the site by sunset ...

Phi Phi Sunrise and Sunset Schedule:

dawn

April to November 6.00-6.30

December to March 6.30 am to 7.00 am

Sunset

From February to July from 18.00 to 18.45

From August to January from 18.00 to 18.30

Pros of this place:

A stunning view of the island and the isthmus between the two beaches opens up

The ticket price is only 0.80 euros

There is a cafe with soft drinks

Cons of this place:

It's hard to climb the steep stairs to the top

Very hot, almost no shelter from the sun

Advice:

The toilet on the observation deck is paid, its cost: 10 baht.

I would also like to recommend going to this place in the early morning, when the sun has not yet risen high and there are few tourists. Firstly, you will not suffer from the heat, and secondly, you will get cool pictures. On the second level there is big Stone, where you can make a couple of beautiful shots.
