Read in the article:

Do you need a visa for Mallorca?

Yes, Russians need a Schengen visa to visit the island of Mallorca. If you do not have a valid Schengen multivisa, then you need to obtain a Spanish visa.

Unfortunately, by the time of the trip to Mallorca, our Schengen visas had already expired, and Masha had never had one. In addition, with previous applications for a Schengen visa, we have never gone through the biometrics procedure (fingerprinting and photographing), which means that this was waiting for us ... So, we go to get visas and tell about our experience of obtaining them.

You can apply for a visa to Spain in Moscow at the Spanish consulate, through visa centers, and even with delivery to your home or work through.

However, we were not in Moscow and there was no desire to go specially to Moscow with a small child to register it, and then receive it. We were lucky - in our city there was a visa center vfs.Global accepting documents for a visa to Spain.

But before applying for a Schengen visa, you must first buy air tickets, book hotels, take out insurance, take pictures and prepare all the documents.

Accordingly, we booked not one, but three hotel - in Palma Nova near Palma de Mallorca in the south-west of the island, in Playa de Muro near Port de Alcudia in the north and in Cala de Or in the southeast ...

Insurance to Spain

For a Schengen visa, medical insurance is required with a coverage amount of at least 30 "000 euros and a fifteen-day supply after the date of the end of the trip. We always arrange insurance online on the site. Specify the country (" Spain "or" All Schengen countries "), the number and age of travelers and travel dates.Additional 15 days will be put down automatically in the policy. The insurance policy for all three cost us less than 20 euros, and its registration took 5-7 minutes.

Photo requirements for a Spanish visa

As I already wrote, the requirements for the photo may differ slightly at the consulates of different countries of the Schengen area.

To apply for a Spanish visa, a photograph is required not just with a light background, but with a white one. In normal professional photographic laboratories, where photos for documents are printed, they should know this. The photographer immediately asked us what kind of Schengen visa a photo is needed for - there were no problems. The rest of the photo requirements are standard - 3.5 x 4.5 cm, color, matte, borderless, oval and corner, head size from crown to chin ~ 3 cm, face occupies 70-80% of the photo, etc.

List of documents for a Spanish visa

Below is a sample list of documents that must be provided to obtain a Schengen visa to Spain. But before filling out the documents, be sure to check the official current information on the website of the Spanish Consulate. We submitted documents to the vfs.Global visa center.

  1. Completed application form for a Schengen visa. It is better to fill it in according to the sample posted on the website of the Spanish Embassy. We have applied for a multiple entry visa for a year.
  2. A passport valid for at least 3 months after the end of the trip and at least 2 blank pages. Sometimes photocopies of all pages of the passport and photocopies of the issued Schengen visas for the last 3 years are required.
  3. Copies of the completed pages of the internal Russian passport.
  4. Air tickets or other confirmation of the route (train tickets, printed route on the map when traveling by car). Printed by us electronic tickets from the site Aviasales came up without question.
  5. Proof of Accommodation: printed hotel reservations or invitation from residents of the country. As we have already said, some consulates require confirmation of 100% payment for hotels and fax on the hotel's letterhead confirming the booking. But for a Spanish visa, the requirements are not so strict. Printed bookings of our hotels from the RoomGuru website also turned out to be quite enough.
  6. An insurance policy issued for just 5-7 minutes also came up.
  7. Certificate from the place of study or work about the position held, the leave granted for the duration of the trip and the average monthly salary (on letterhead). It is desirable that the salary be at least 1 "000 euros in ruble equivalent. We have registered an LLC, so I wrote out a certificate for myself and indicated the necessary salary. Lena wrote in the questionnaire that she is a freelancer.
  8. Proof of solvency. If you do not work, cannot get a certificate from work, or the certificate indicates a lower salary (and sometimes in addition to a certificate from work), a bank statement about the movement is required Money for the last 3 months. In addition to the movement of funds, funds should be available on the account in the amount of approximately 50-70 euros for each person for each day of the planned trip. If the funds are not enough, then a sponsorship letter is printed from the person sponsoring your trip, with the provision of his documents confirming his solvency. We have attached to the documents bank statements with the movement of funds for the last 3 months and the amount on the account at the rate of about 70 euros per person for the entire trip. Some banks give such a certificate right away, and in some you will have to order and wait for it up to 2 weeks. Do not over tighten!
  9. Confirmation of intention to return home. Usually, such documents are a certificate of employment and round-trip air tickets. But sometimes additional confirmation is required in the form of documents for a car, for real estate, certificates of marriage and birth of children ... We did not provide anything except air tickets.
  10. Documents for the child. For one-year-old Masha, we additionally submitted her birth certificate with a copy and notarized mutual permits for the child to leave with the second parent.
  11. Color photograph 3.5 x 4.5 cm - 1 piece that meets the requirements of the consulate.

The cost of a Schengen visa to Spain

A Spanish visa costs 35 euros (the official visa fee of the consulate of Spain) plus the vfs.Global service fee - about 20 euros more. Children under 6 years of age are exempted from paying both visa and service fees. Accordingly, we paid a little more than 100 euros for the two of us and Masha, adding an additional SMS notification about the status of consideration. We received a copy of the service agreement and a receipt for payment.

Application procedure and biometrics

Submitting documents for a Spanish visa at the visa center turned out to be extremely simple and quick. No prior appointment is required. We arrived at the visa center with a prepared package of documents. There was one person in front of us - they waited only five minutes. After the study and acceptance of all documents by the employee, we paid the visa and service fees, we were invited to the biometrics procedure. We took biometrics a little longer - each finger needs to be applied to the scanner quickly and with a certain pressure, it was redone several times. If the skin on the fingers is very dry, moisten with a special lotion.

Getting a visa to Spain

During the weekly waiting period, we received several SMS - about sending documents, about their receipt at the Spanish consulate, about consideration and return to the visa center. If everyone had to be present when submitting the documents, then one person with a contract and a receipt, all documents and confirmation of kinship in relation to the rest of the applicants was enough to receive.

It remains to print the received envelope and to find out with excitement: are the visas pasted into the passports and which ones ... We were given a multivisa, but instead of the requested year, only for 6 months. Well, it's still better than a rejection or a short-term

That's it, let's fly to Mallorca!
