Molotov cocktail on the roof.

A gun at the police station. Straight down the hallway and right.

A gun in a dark alley.

Rocket launcher on the roof of the building. Use a helicopter or jetpack to pick it up. Extremists can jump with a parachute from the tallest skyscraper in the city and also get here. True, what to do with the rocket launcher on the roof is another question (CJ will not survive a fall from such a height).

Another way suggested by our reader: take a fast motorcycle, preferably an NRG-500. Climb up the main skyscraper and then jump down to the adjacent building to the north. Then turn east and jump to the next skyscraper. Its roof is quite narrow: try to slow down a little, but don't change the direction of movement - the motorcycle itself will fall on the roof of the third building, where the RPG lies.

Shotgun at the brick wall of the factory.

Shotgun on the pier. There is also armor next to it.

A shotgun under the canopy of a simple one-story house.

A silenced pistol in front of the Los Santos Conference Center entrance.

A pistol with a silencer on a flower bed under the bridge leading to the entrance to the stadium.

A sniper rifle on the roof of a Los Santos hospital. First, find a helicopter or jetpack.

At the beginning of the game, it's easier to climb the tallest skyscraper in the city (look for the yellow marker at the entrance below), pick up a parachute and jump in the direction of the hospital. Deploy the parachute as early as possible and immediately use the S button to tuck your legs under you. If everything is done correctly, there will be enough headroom to land on the desired roof.

A story about fans revealing secrets Grand theft auto 5 and how they did it.

On September 30th, Craig Owens posted an extensive article on eurogamer.net about fans who have attempted to create a map of Los Santos and Blaine County long after the game was released. I present to your attention the translation of this article.

In July 2012, Rockstar posted the following screenshot: For most of us, this image conveys just one single fact. It says that in Grand theft auto v there are helicopters. At that time, this was not a curious fact. After all, Grand Theft Auto IV also had helicopters. We wanted to know about airships, fighters, about all sorts of cool things. But for a limited group of fans of the game, this picture was the breakthrough they had been waiting for, the missing piece of an extremely ambitious puzzle.

"From this screenshot, we learned about almost the entire western part of the city," says Thomas Rondo, a geographer by training better known by the pseudonym Fido_le_muet at gtaforums.com. Rondo is a dedicated member of a team of GTA fanatics who have taken themselves to a serious cartographic challenge. They set out to create a map of all of Los Santos, from the airport to the harbor, from the golden sands to the highest mountain peaks, even before the game was released.

"In the first trailer, we only saw Downtown and a glimpse of Santa Monica and Venice," Rondo explains, referring to areas of the real Los Angeles that Rockstar has visually searched to create the corresponding neighborhoods of Los Santos. "But with this new [screenshot], we got to see the whole western part of the city. It makes the map what it is now."

Unsurprisingly, cartography became one of the aspects that Rondo liked the most due to his profession. “The main idea that I find appealing,” explains Rondo, “is to start from scratch and slowly, step by step, create something significant.”

And the cartographers started to work, really slowly. The first few versions of the map were very rough sketches, stitched together from scraps of the city plan that they were able to extract from the first trailers. Rockstar rarely indulges fans with lavish marketing, so cartographers had to work with very meager material: one aerial screenshot here, a three-second snippet of a street corner there.

They scrutinized parts of the screenshots that most of us didn't even notice: sun-drenched or fog-shrouded backgrounds, streets flitting behind characters or helicopter blades. It was not an easy job, but their passion paid off in full. Even the very first rough sketch of a map of Rondo turned out to be heading in the right direction: a few precise street locations drifting among the gaps, and even the rough outlines of Blaine County are still distinguishable. This is a map that will be further refined with each stage, as more and more enthusiasts pay attention and donate their time, and more and more geographic details will be available for analysis in the form of screenshots.

First attempt by Thomas Rondo to display a map of Los Santos, circa January 2012.

So how did they do it? How did they use these out of context scraps of information about Los Santos to create an accurate plan - an amazingly accurate plan, as it turned out later - of the finished city? Yes, Rockstar North is, of course, quite secretive, but in the hands of the cartographers there was one rather serious source of information, which was impossible to impose restrictions on - Los Angeles.

Los Santos is Los Angeles. He's not just inspired by the latter. This is real Los Angeles, transformed and perverted by the hands of Rockstar North. While not perfectly accurate, the parts of the city look almost identical and is probably best seen as an excerpt from Los Angeles' most striking details. All the tourist attractions are there, but like a Hollywood plastic surgeon, Rockstar removes excess fat: sleeping areas, little-known landmarks, ugly city outskirts. Do that, then shuffle the layout of what's left a little before every street, shop window, or poster cuts through the iconic brand caricature filter to create what will become Los Santos.

The real Los Angeles gave map creators an idea of where the main geographic objects how city districts should be connected. This was far more useful than the comparison to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which carries no more resemblance to its modern-day incarnation than Liberty City in GTA III. However, even though fans had a rough idea of what their final map would look like, they still had to take each screenshot and determine which part of the city it depicts. This doesn't seem to be enough information to proceed. They need something specific, some undeniable landmarks linking the real world to Rockstar's creation.

Sights. Drive through Los Santos and dozens of Los Angeles' notable features, served up with a GTA sauce, sweep past you: the Vinewood sign is the most obvious, but obviously that's all it does to us. The next skyscrapers of Downtown on our list.

"We identified buildings based on where they are located in real life, "explains Rondo." We identified obvious buildings such as the US Bank Tower, California Plaza, The westin Bonaventure [and] began to place these buildings in relation to each other. At the very beginning, we had several maps from different authors. We borrowed ideas from each other. "

Take another look at the image at the beginning of this article. It's a helicopter hovering over a city definitely inspired by Los Angeles, but no more clarifying, right? And here's what this screenshot looked like in the eyes of cartographers:
And that's even before they started scouring Google Streetview for less clear buildings.

"It's like a treasure hunt," says forum member MrThingus, who has located and located the Powell Library and the Beverley Hills "Peninsula." can be marked on a card made by yourself. Finding places of interest before the game is released gives you the feeling of fun and excitement that you get when you know that in just a few months or weeks you will be able to drive around virtual Los Sangeles with a level of detail that few games have ever made before. "

This excitement, the excitement of anticipation, permeates all the efforts of cartographers. They were Rockstar North's most dedicated fans, so eager to experience the world they knew was destined for them, that they tried to bring it to life in advance.

“I think the main motivation for many of us was that it was highly anticipated,” says cartographer Robert, who is known on the forum under the pseudonym lxr. “You won't be able to play it, as we thought, for at least another half a year. It turned out that even longer. How would you survive this wait? I think a lot of people did it because it was the only way to visit this map, you know? "

The need for mapmakers to visit Los Santos as soon as possible reflects the sheer, astounding power of the worlds Rockstar creates. Beneath the surface of their harsh, cartoonish satire, Los Santos and Liberty City somehow fit real-life inspirations with the hyperreal, almost mythical New York and Los Angeles we know from cinematography. It may not be Newq and LA, but they evoke the strongest sense of these cities, more than many other games trying to more faithfully reproduce any city.

The time spent in Liberty City inspired many to turn to cartography, recalls mapmaker Koeklin, who started finding landmarks back in GTA 4.

"I didn't know much about New york"he says," I knew Liberty City was inspired by this city, but I had no idea how. "Once when Koeklin was replaying The Snow Storm, a mid-game mission in which Niko Bellic fought his way through the gutted interior of a hospital to retrieve a stolen bag with cocaine, and caught myself thinking about the weirdness of the environment. ”What is an abandoned hospital doing so close to the blazing lights of Manhattan, okay, Algonquin?

“I thought it was weird that a huge, ruined building was on Colony Island,” he says, “and I wondered if there really was such a place in New York. I looked on Google Maps and found it easily. hospital on Roosevelt Island.

“After that, I tried to check many different places and was surprised to find that they also exist in New York. I could already see the city as before, I felt like I rediscovered this game. So I naturally identified buildings in Los Santos since the first trailer for GTA 5. "

The mapmakers' love of these cities is an undeniable rebuttal to any argument that seeks to limit the role of Grand Theft Auto to the mayhem that takes place there. "Killing people, burning [them], grinding them with the wheels of a car has never been something interesting for me in GTA," concludes Koeklin.

The close relationship between Los Santos and Los Angeles should have been a handy tool for those who mapped the city, but what about the countryside? These cartographers have far fewer references to the real world that can be used: here Rockstar began to depict things a little less faithfully relative to real life the further they got from the city boundaries. The countryside in GTA V, the shape it adopted, and its location in relation to Los Santos have long been a big question for the map project.

"When I joined the theme a year ago," explains Robert, "we had a city already developed, but the countryside was a big mystery." At that time, no one expected that the Alamo Sea, which is based on the Salton Sea, would be located north of Vinewood. We were thinking like: "Why should they do that? In real life it is in the Southwest [USA - translator's note (or mistake, the lake is southeast of Los Angeles)], it can't be!"

Before this fact was established, cartographers nevertheless went through countless versions. Is the map an island? Or is it several islands? Is Los Santos surrounded by an endless auto-generated desert or invisible walls? And just how vast can be rural areas, what form they can take, how will it really be?

"There was no version about the size," says Robert, "it was damn hard to determine what you see [in the screenshot]: how big is it? How many kilometers can it be? Does it end there?"

And then the mapmakers realized that Rockstar had given them all the clues they needed.

At a fairly early stage in the advertising campaign, Rockstar posted the following screenshot, the location of which, thanks to the famous Vinewood sign, could be easily identified. But more importantly, at the same time, this screenshot gives us a tantalizing glimpse of the countryside outside the city. "This was the first screenshot we had that allowed us to connect the city to what was behind it." - Robert remembers.
By itself, however, the screenshot was useless. Perspective and distance made it nearly impossible to judge anything, and well, it was possible to tell how the gloomy countryside behind was positioned in relation to anything that had already been shown. Those of us who have played the game since then must have realized that the Alamo-Si might look stretched out from a great distance, but the contents of this hazy shadow were the subject of fierce controversy at the time. The picture was analyzed, discussed over and over again, but then left alone.

Until then, Robert stares at the next screenshot until this one is released in the same series of screenshots ...
... and then things started to make sense.

“If you look at the screenshot of the helicopter you can see the fog in the background,” explains Robert, “what I saw after looking at it for quite some time is if you look at mountain range in the farthest plan, with three or four ridges, and then look at the screenshot with Trevor, you will notice that there is a mountain in the background. And I found four or five distinguishing features among those ledges that made a perfect match.

It's hard to see because the perspective is different. But once you see that these two images actually share some very unique features, you realize that what you see in the Vinewood helicopter screenshot is nothing more than the Alamo Sea.

The methods that were used to map the countryside required a lot of painstaking work. Map compilers scoured screenshots for distinctive geographical features, and then tried to find similar ones in other screenshots, gradually building their vision of the San Andreas plan, stitching screenshots one by one in a chain. It's not as easy as it sounds.

“I really learned a lot about perspective this year by mapping Los Santos,” says Robert laughing. "Perspective is a creepy bastard. The map is just huge and the closer you are to the ground, the bigger it is. So all those screenshots used very different lenses. Sometimes things seem too distant, and in other screenshots taken at different focal lengths, they look very close to each other. "

"You learn about perspective," he continues, "about how you create something. You learn about photogrammetry, which is basically the science of taking a photograph of something and then figuring out the three-dimensional parameters of that object. How do you determine what it is. a straight line? People, myself, do it wrong all the time. "

It doesn't help that Rockstar manipulates its screenshots from time to time, and I'm not just talking about a moment with a strangely changed contrast:

"You can't navigate by the sun!" - laughs Robert.

"A lot of our analysis was based on the direction of the sun," Rondo explains, "but we found that the sun wasn't always where it should be. In some of the screenshots, the sun was directly in the north."

While Rockstar wasn’t playing god to get the lighting they needed in their screenshots, the studio nevertheless had an enraging habit of continually refining its creation, forcing the mapmakers to tweak their maps in response. And, of course, the speculative constructions of cartographers constantly ran into many options for insubordination. natural geography San Andreas to the laws of the real world.

“There was a case where two buildings, I think, were moved over time,” - says Robert - “we realized that not much has changed on the map. But we still had to be careful in our conclusions all the time. nothing flows in. We expected that there will be one - but it turned out there are none. There is a reservoir at the top, but there had to be mountains around it to be a full-fledged reservoir, right? No. You need to apply logic, but sometimes it’s game logic, "- he explained.

Nevertheless, the compilers finished off this map, as can be seen from the Rondo GIF showing the evolution of their efforts, undoubtedly showing.

They were so close, in fact, that when official map in the end leaked a little earlier this year, many players did not believe the discovery: real map was suspiciously close to the fan-drawn one they had seen a few weeks earlier.

“It wasn’t surprising, we were sure that we were close,” says Robert with deserved immodesty, “it was obvious that we did it. Because there was a trailer showing the robbery that actually showed parts of the map. More before anything leaked to the network. "

The mapmakers are not finished yet. Even now, they are combing the game world (and Google Streetview) to find every architectural piece, down to the last, and find its real source. Unsurprisingly, the mapping project has irrevocably changed the way its members relate to the game, as they surely know the way through the intricacies of San Andreas as well as its creators.

Robert froze when I asked what it would be like to finally set foot on the lands of Los Santos and the surrounding countryside. And he told.

"Damn ... it's ... it's really weird to actually be able to do that ... because, you know, because there were so many places on the map where I thought like," oh, I wish I could turn the camera to ten degrees in that screenshot "... and suddenly getting the opportunity to just go there ... it's great. It's really great. The ability to ride this map is fantastic. It's exciting ... The first thing I did in the game was to get a car and drove around the map, very slowly. " - explained Robert.

He wanted to see how everything fit together, the way he knew it should be, the way he and all the other mapmakers had revealed. But he also had a specific destination in mind.

“I knew about the railway bridge,” says Robert calmly, “we didn't have an image of it, we only saw both ends of it, where the highway and the railroad tracks were on opposite sides of each other. It was obvious that there must be a bridge there .. It was really fun to see what he actually looked like. Nobody knew what he looked like, but I knew he was there. "

For most of us, walking out onto the tanned streets of Los Santos last week was the beginning of an adventure: the beginning of an endless exploration. But what is it like for mapmakers? “It was the end of their long journey home.

The attempt to create a map of Los Santos was made possible thanks to the active collaboration of many people to whom I want to turn. City GTA 5 - Los Santos

Description:

Los Santos Is a fictional city located in the southeastern United States in Los Santos County, San Andreas. Los Santos is the setting for the second time in the GTA series, first appearing in 2004 in GTA: San Andreas. In the new version, Los Santos is larger, more detailed and looks even more alive than before. The prototype of Los Santos was Los Angeles with its vast suburbs. Los Santos means saints in Spanish, an allusion to Los Angeles, which translates to angels.

Like its prototype, Los Santos is a gigantic, bustling metropolis, a city of people of all sorts: from wealthy filmmakers in Vinewood to ghetto blacks in Strawberry. Like Liberty City from GTA IV, Los Santos has the same timeline as it was when the game was released in 2013.

Los Santos in the 2013 version can be divided into 4 large zones: North, East, West and South; each zone is divided into districts. Los Santos has three self-governing cities: Davis, Del Pierro and Rockford Hills.

Los Santos International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, is located near the city. In addition, Los Santos has an advanced system public transport covering the entire city.

Los Santos - main city Los Santos County; and Los Santos Metropolitan Area.

Districts / quarters

Central Los Santos
The districts of central Los Santos are the heart of the city. To the north, this area is bordered by the Del Pierro Motorway, La Puerta Motorway to the west and the Olympic Motorway to the east. This part of the city is characterized by the highest level of urbanization, the most high skyscrapers in the city, including the bank tower Labyrinth.
  • Downtown Los Santos (Downtown Los Angeles)
  • Textile City (Fashion District)
  • Mission Row (Skid Row)
  • Pillbox Hill (Bunker Hill)
  • Lijn Square (Pershing Square)

North Los Santos

North Los Santos is made up of neighborhoods that stretch from Downtown to Vinewood Hills on the northern edge of the city. This is the home of the richest people in Los Santos, with large private houses - the most prestigious and expensive housing in the city. Among other celebrities, Poppy Mitchell lives in North Los Santos. The house of Michael De Santa is also located here.
  • Alta (Chinatown)
  • Burton (Beverly Grove)
  • Rockford Hills (Beverly Hills and Century City)
  • Vinewood (Hollywood)
  • Richman (Bel Air and Holmby Hills)
  • West Vinewood (West Hollywood)
  • Vinewood Hills (Hollywood Hills)
  • Downtown Vinewood (Downtown Hollywood)
  • Havik (Melrose)

South Los Santos

South Los Santos includes areas that are considered independent cities, their quarters stretching south from Downtown Los Santos. South Los Santos is home to the city's poorest residents. South Central is where you can find the cheapest accommodation. Garbage is constantly piled on the sides of the local streets, and the streets themselves are inhabited by gangs like the one called the Families. The port and docks of Los Santos are also considered part of South Los Santos. The most vibrant areas of South Los Angeles, Inglewood and Long Beach, which were in GTA: SA, are largely absent in GTA V. However, their appearance has been partially recreated in other areas of Los Santos.
  • Strawberry (Crenshaw and Inglewood)
  • Davis (Compton)
  • Ranch (Watts and Florence)
  • Chamberlain Hills (Baldwin Village)
  • La Puerta (San Pedro)
  • Banning (Wilmington)
  • Elysian Island (Terminal Island)
  • Terminal (Port of Long Beach)

East Los Santos

The western boundary of Los Santos East is the Los Santos Freeway and the city sewer, and to the east, this area abuts the Tataviam Mountains and the Palomino Ridge. East Los Santos is mainly inhabited by Hispanics, most of them are immigrants from Mexico. It was not in vain that the developers created the fifth numbered part in the series for a long time. The gaming world turned out to be really rich. In the south of the mainland is the huge city of Los Santos, which was created under the inspiration of a real prototype in the form of Los Angeles. This is a real criminal center, which has absorbed some parts of the metropolis, but at the same time has not become an exact copy.

General view of the GTA V map

The creators have added many unique elements, which makes the settlement look quite fresh. The map in GTA 5 other parts is an undeveloped territory with various natural landscapes... On the edges there are beaches, in the middle there is a hilly and flat relief with vegetation. Roads of all kinds cross the locations along and across.

Various secrets

Random events often appear on the map in GTA 5, which brings great variety to the gameplay. Even when traveling on a mission or on an ordinary walk, you can come across an interesting mission that you want to complete. By default, this list includes the robbery of ATMs, shops and cash-in-transit trucks, but more varied events are also provided. It could be chasing a thief or helping a drunk girl. Most of them are concentrated in the center of Los Santos, in the northeast of the city, as well as just beyond settlement from the west side.

Robbery of a cashier car

You can often encounter them in the central sandy part, where there is a lake on the GTA map, as well as on the ring road. Unique vehicles can also be found in the vast game world. The four dots are centered on the sandy part of the lake location, which is highlighted in yellow. Two towards the sea from the lake on the east side. One car can be found in the north west coast opposite the small islets. In the same part, but already in the city, you can come across three unique types of technology.

Other interests

In GTA 5, the map provides ample opportunities for exploration. At first, players will be interested in finding new parts and just traveling, but when it comes to a specific goal, it is better to use the hints. For example, fans of transport stunts should know where the best places for jumping. Most of them are concentrated in the central and southeastern part of the city. There are also several places near the lake on the sandy location and on the northern coast.

Stunts around the city by car

If the player wants to find out where random encounters are located on the map in GTA 5, then it is enough to explore the center and the northern part of Los Santos. There are simply a huge number of them. Several can be found on the same side, but outside the city, as well as near the lake in the center of the map. These meetings allow you to get a unique task from interesting characters. Often in such missions, an unexpected ending is provided, which can be considered an additional bonus. There are 58 such tasks in total, and to complete the game 100%, you need to make at least twenty. For more convenience in orienteering, you can download the GTA 5 map with the places of chance encounters.

Remaining secrets

In GTA 5, the map of the parts of the submarine may be of interest only to those users who have already tried themselves in most of the activities and completed the storyline. Basically, they are concentrated in the southeastern part of Los Santos near the port, but to find it will have to dive to the bottom. The second cluster is in the water opposite the convex island part on the west coast, the rest in the north and northeast. The map of hidden packages is useful for those guys who are looking for interesting ways to get rich.

Submarine parts map

They are hidden in the water along the entire contour of the island, some places run down with the wreckage of a submarine. One package is located in the center of the lake. Finding places where you can jump with a parachute will be more entertaining. There are thirteen such points in total, and four of them are located in the central part of the river, which goes into the ocean from the western part of the lake. Two more places in the city center, three locations from the northern part. The rest are scattered across the map. Traces of the presence of aliens

A spaceship in GTA 5 cannot be assembled as a personal transport, but collecting UFO wreckage is provided for those who wish to complete the game 100%. This activity can be considered one of the most difficult, because the particles are not large in size and are hidden in various places. This can be the interior of an old car, the roof of a building, or the most inconspicuous nooks and crannies.

Map with the wreckage of a spaceship

It will take a lot of time to collect them all, but this will be a good opportunity to distinguish yourself, because not too many players were able to find a spaceship in GTA 5. The map is extensive and should always be kept in front of your eyes. It is difficult to single out even approximate landmarks here. In the city of Los Santos, they are located closer to the center, north and southeast. A dozen parts are hidden outside the city from the northwestern part. On the eastern side of the lake, about the same. The rest are evenly distributed over the entire area of 108 square kilometers, which greatly complicates the task. To find all fifty will have to spend many hours.

The refuge of the military

Military base in GTA 5 on the map it is located on the west coast and clearly stands out from the environment. This is because there are no more buildings in the area and the massive complex immediately becomes a target. You can also find the object in the mission "Reconnaissance", if you choose the passage option called "Sea Adventure". Other players should be aware that the entrance is on the southeast side of the complex. If you fly up from the air, then the player will begin to fire artillery. The military base in GTA 5 is quite an interesting point, inside which there is a huge amount of combat vehicles.

Los Santos military base

For example, powerful flying vehicles type cargo plane Titan, P996 Lazer fighter and Cargobob helicopters, as well as Buzzard. From the cars, the military Crusader jeep, the Barracks truck and the Rhino tank, known from all previous parts of the series, should be noted. Even just a ride on them will bring unprecedented pleasure. When storming the base, the main thing is enough to prepare. The character must be pumped, the stock of weapons is inexhaustible, but it is better to master some kind of helicopter and start shelling from the mountain. Just like that, no one will hand the technique into the hands of the player.
