Miskolc is famous for its favorable sanitary conditions. There are no dangerous diseases and infections here. But the quality of tap water leaves much to be desired, especially in the summer. It must be boiled before use. After buying vegetables and fruits, you should definitely wash them thoroughly, and only then eat them.

Miskolc is the first large Hungarian city on the way of a person arriving in Hungary from the northeast. This is followed by Eger, and there it is not far from the capital - one and a half to two hours by car.

We spent the night in Miskolc and the first half of the next day.

Actually, we did not see Miskolc itself, since we arrived purposefully to the famous bath of Miskolc-Tapolca. The baths are located 7 km from the city center. In Miskolc itself, of course, there is something to see. There is historical Center- Belvaros district, and in general it is a large city. But tourists, as a rule, go straight to the cave grottoes with thermal water, because these baths of Miskolctapolca are really unique (Hungarians write in one word: Miscolctapolca).

In one of the local hills, a cave with thermal springs: passages and large halls, an underground lake with warm water. It was found by the Romans, but it was only at the end of the 18th century that they equipped a bath for medical procedures. It belonged at that time to a Benedictine monastery, but the authorities of Miskolc understood the value and uniqueness (and, therefore, importance for the city) of this natural attraction, so over time, the plot of land with the cave was bought from the Benedictines by the city authorities. The cave is called Ozernaya.

Our hotel (Park Hotel) was located a 15-minute walk from the baths. This area of Miskolc is more like a summer cottage: there are low hotels, cottages, villas, a lot of greenery, green hills rise behind the houses.

There is a shady park in front of the baths, which could have been mistaken for a forest, if not for the flowerbeds and paved paths laid out on the lawns.

There is a narrow pyramid in front of the entrance to the baths.

Baths entrance

We arrived exactly at the opening, at 9 o'clock, and in front of the entrance we already found a small queue.

Opening hours of the cave bath - in the summer from 9 to 19, in the rest of the year - from 9 to 18. They are open all year round.

The cost of a full-day ticket is 3500 forints (700 rubles) for an adult, 2600 for a child. You can take a ticket for 4 hours, it will cost 1000 HUF cheaper.

A separate ticket for the sauna is 1000 forints.

We pass to the territory of the bath

Each visitor to the baths is given a bracelet. This bracelet hangs the key from the locker where you leave things. You also need to have a 100 forints coin with you - without it, you will not close the box with things. Put a coin, and only after that the box is locked with a key. If you need to take something from the locker, come up, open it with a key, a coin falls out. Take it, put the coin down again, turn the key - lock it.

The changing cabins are in the same room as the boxes. There are no divisions for men and women. Hair dryers hang along the walls.

After changing your clothes, go to the first hall and find yourself in front of a high calcified rock wall, from which water gushes. Under the wall there is a pool and entrances (or floats) to the caves.

In the first hall

And so you start traveling through the cave labyrinths. Somewhere you swim, somewhere you walk with your feet. Climb the steps, go to other levels. New halls open up in front of you, jets are pouring from the walls.

Each passage is highlighted differently. The backlight changes.

Sometimes a "current" is launched - and everyone quickly rushes along the ring and "falls" into the very first pool at the foot of the high wall.

The most remarkable hall is the Star one. This is a high domed room, almost without light - only the "starry sky" shines overhead. There are jets in the center of the hall, and underwater massage jets are also placed along the perimeter of the circle. In the dark, people are barely distinguishable, someone bumps into someone, steam hangs above the water, voices seem to be heard from afar. The water is 42 degrees.

Finding the Star Hall is not so easy, you have to wander through the labyrinths. I only found it the second time.

Next to this hall is an almost steam room, a rectangular pool, also with underwater jets.

After swimming among the caves, you can go out into the open space.

There are several pools with different temperatures. One pool is placed in the center of a giant shell in case of rain.

But in our days the sun was shining, and some, having swam, were located right on the grass. And someone was sunbathing in sun loungers.

Still, I liked the caves more, so I left the sun, I again went to the cave labyrinths. And I discovered that there were a lot of people there. It seems that several buses with tourists have arrived - you will stumble upon a swim of Chinese, then you will hear Russian voices.

And what kind of babies they bring here!

There are a lot of people, but everyone somehow dissolves in the dungeon. It seems like there was just a bunch of small ones, you swim around the corner, and there is no one.

After swimming, it is very pleasant to take a walk in the park.

Not far from the entrance to the baths - the remains of the church foundation

It is believed that the baths of Miskolc are indicated for the treatment of joints, heart disease, asthma. At the same time, the concentration of salts is not too strong here. There are no restrictions on the time spent in the bath. In Hungary, before that, I still swam near Eger (in Egerszalok) and Heviz. In Egerszalok, a maximum residence time was specified for each pool. And in Heviz, even over the speakerphone, they always warned (and, mainly, in Russian) that you can swim for no more than 40 minutes.

There is strong water in Heviz, I really felt its effect on myself. Of course, I heard warnings, but we arrived for 1 day. It was January 2, winter, you know, and here is a hot lake, we are swimming among water lilies, the water is warm. In general, I got hold of, overbought, and then the state was very strange and unpleasant, completely inadequate.

There was lightness and joy from Miskolc. In general, the entertainment is excellent, and on occasion, if fate brings you to Miskolc, be sure to take a dip.

Miskolc Tapolca is the most common thermal spa in Hungary. And at the same time the most unusual: only here are the baths underground, in caves that were formed thousands of years ago.

This natural miracle and the name of the resort, from which it breathes with warmth, is an excellent reason to spend a vacation with children in Miskolctapolca. Everything favors this: the climate, the ability to sunbathe and swim, and excursions for every taste. Our review will help you plan family holiday in one of the best thermal spas in Hungary.

Where is Miskolctapolca located

The city of Miskolc is located in the northeastern part of Hungary, on the Shajo River, at the foot of mountain range Buck. The administrative center is the county of Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen.

The fourth city in the country in terms of population. Large industrial center. The distance from Miskolc to Budapest is 183 km, to Nyiregyhaza - 114 km, to Debrecen - 115 km, to Chop - 193 km, to Beregovo - 200 km.

Doesn't sound like a resort description? Correct: the resort area of Miskolctapolca is located on the outskirts of the city, in a large, quiet park. If you do not get out to the center of Miskolc (and the tourist infrastructure of the resort part is quite self-sufficient), you may not even notice that you are resting in a rather big city.

Vacation with children

Sunny weather, clean air, river, mountains, old fortress, amusement park, good hotels- you will find all this set in Miskolctapolca. The resort has almost ideal conditions for relaxing with a child.

As a bonus, you just need to add that this is almost the only thermal resort in Hungary, in the baths of which even kids can splash.

And children are happy to swim in the underground pools: the rough, bumpy vaults of the caves do not lose in the least to the intricate design of water parks.

The journey to Miskolc does not take long - just 2 hours by train from Budapest and you will be at the resort, whose sedate rhythm immediately disposes to rest.

But do not think that arriving in Miskolctapolca with children, you will be cut off from the civilized world. The resort area has its own hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment for children.

With a baby, you don't have to leave the cozy park at all, finding everything you need in the hotel. But if you are planning a vacation in Miskolctapolca with older children, then you will probably want to visit the museums of the city and neighboring towns, each of which is remarkable in its own way.

When is the best time to go

Like all thermal spas in Hungary, Miskolc can be enjoyed all year round. And here, like nowhere else, you can really recommend a vacation at any time of the year.

The temperature in the baths remains consistently warm both in the heat and in the cold, and you can swim there without going out into the cold air.

But at the same time, there is still a high season in Miskolctapolca. From the end of spring to the beginning of autumn, they come to the resort the largest number tourists, at the same time, housing prices are increasing significantly.

And yet it is summer is the best time to relax with a child... V warm months you can sunbathe near the outdoor pools, walk around in the fresh air and take excursions to all nearby attractions.

Weather and climate

The climate of Miskolc-Tapolca is temperate continental, as well as throughout Hungary. Most of all, it resembles the climate of Budapest: warm summers without high temperatures, clear and dry autumn, mild winters with fogs and rare snowfalls, early spring.

The average summer temperature in Miskolc is + 19 ° С. But in June, thermometer columns often rise to + 23-25 ° С, and in July-August, the hottest time, according to local standards, comes: + 26-27 ° С.

However, it is during the summer months that the greatest amount of rain falls - you will always have to keep an umbrella with you. By September, the daytime temperature drops to + 15 ° С, although the weather quite often pleases with warm days, when the thermometers show + 22 ° С.

Until the end of autumn, the temperature does not drop below zero, and the first mild frosts come in December. The coldest month is January, but winter cold is conditional: -1-3 ° С is unlikely to become a serious obstacle for walking.

In March, as a rule, winter completely recedes, and on fine days you can see + 10 ° C on the thermometers. Warming continues in April-May, but in the second half of spring, Miskolc usually gets wet in the rain. The record holders for precipitation are May and June.

The mountainous terrain in which the resort is located affects the daily temperature fluctuations. As soon as the sun hides, it gets much colder outside. Even in summer, the night temperature remains at + 15-18 ° С, and in late spring and early autumn it can drop to + 10 ° С.

The Miskolc-Tapolca cave bath is located in Northern Hungary, a beautiful region rich in tourist attractions, in Miskolc-Tapolca, a resort area of the town of Miskolc.

The special attraction of the one-of-a-kind hydropathic bath in Europe lies in the fact that it is located in natural caves washed over millennia by thermal waters... The cave bath also includes an open thermal lake powered by warm sources saturated with various gases. According to the doctors, the air of the cave has a healing effect in catarrhal breathing difficulties, asthma.

Water, calcareous-hydrogen-carbonate type, contains iodine, bromine, calcium, magnesia-metaboric and metasilicic acid, as well as radon

The hydrotherapy bath is protected from the wind and the pleasant, balanced climate is favorable for relaxation. Miskolctapolca is surrounded by 1150 hectares of beech forest, in which there is a magnificent park with open beach and a cave bath.

The tourist wealth of the region personifies, in addition to being unique for the whole of Europe cave bath, geographic names such as Hajduszoboszlo, Mezokovesd (medicinal baths), Aggtelek (cave), Tokaj and Eger (wine), Hortobagy (reserved steppe), Matra, Bükk, Zemplen (mountains, forests, hunting) etc.

Miskolc, locality, born in the period of the Finding of the Motherland, today has 192 thousand inhabitants. It is a large city with historical monuments, developed infrastructure, cultural traditions and rich cultural life, educational and scientific base (Miskolc University). In the vicinity of the city (7 km from its center) there is the resort of Miskolctapolca, with its unique microclimate, a local nature reserve park, a lake for boat trips and a cave bath, equipped in a natural cave dug with medicinal thermal waters. The recreation and entertainment of hundreds of thousands of guests who come to this resort every year is served by the open swimming pool with a water surface of 4500 sq. meters.

The real treasure of the village is the Lake Cave, transformed into a cave bath, washed over thousands of years in hard limestone rocks. This cave in ancient times was already known by primitive man.

The opening of the cave bath in 1959 was preceded by a long preparatory work.

In this unique for Europe cave bath, it is extremely pleasant to swim, dive, enjoy the thermal water in the pool created by nature, breathe clean air, free from any pollution.

The healing properties of the bath are due to the cave's pleasant, healthy climate, as well as warm karst waters.

This thermal water is not as dense as some medicinal waters (the concentration of all salts in the thermal water used in the bathing complex does not exceed 1000 mg / liter), so many people value it very highly. In this water - unlike some of the denser medicinal waters - you can swim without limiting yourself in time, you can experience all the water effects acting here.

Their number is now increasing: new galleries, natural adits and halls are being added to the familiar many cave basins. "Ball hall" lovers of funny surprises await, and in the huge jacuzzi located next to it, guests are massaged by underwater jets. A little further, sailing with the flow or against it, driven by a hidden mechanism « underground river» , we find ourselves in a pool located in the oldest and most beautiful section of the cave.

In the Cave Bath, however, one should not refuse from swimming in the open air and the spectacle of the Tapolca Park: if the cave was created by nature itself, then the lake pools and the light and elegant shell of the roof leaning over them are the work of human hands.

There are no summer and winter seasons in the Cave Bath. It is always spring in the cave galleries, regardless of the heat of the street or severe frost.

In the outdoor pools, enjoying the warmth of the thermal water, you can admire the bright rays of the winter sun, in summer sun loungers are placed around the pools, and cave galleries offer salvation from the summer heat. Bathing in the cave can be complemented by a sauna and personalized treatments. Unique microclimate, clean blue water, magnificent views and personalized treatment procedures help guests to leave the Cave Baths refreshed and recovered. They can tell their friends: this is a miracle ...

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Miskolc

The center of the old town is the Town Hall Square, which is a typical and, I must say, a very beautiful and harmonious example of a Hungarian town built in the 18-19th century.
The main architectural style is Baroque, according to which the houses are graceful and light. Many temples of the city are not only the property of believers, but also a magnet for tourists.

Miskolc is an important center of the Protestant religion in Hungary; the largest Reformed church is located on the Avash hill. Representatives of other religions have not been forgotten: the Orthodox Church with a magnificent iconostasis of 88 icons, a synagogue with a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, the parish Catholic Church not only operates in the city, but are its significant sights.

Diosgyori var Castle is located on the western outskirts of the city. It traces its history from time immemorial, remembers many battles and battles.
In the 14th century, the castle was beautifully equipped and luxuriously decorated, as it was the favorite place of King Lajos the Great. Nowadays, a historical freak show operates here throughout the year, and each of the four towers of the castle is given a certain exposition, and every summer there are many holidays, festivals and theatrical historical performances.

Lillafüred is a famous climatic health resort in the vicinity of Miskolc. Lillafüred, surrounded by mountains, is located in a beautiful place worthy of the artist's brush. The most famous building here is the magnificent Palace Hotel, built between 1927 and 1930.

There is a nice zoo in Miskolc that offers a wide variety of animals. There are not many exotic animals in the zoo, but there are many wild animals living in Europe, as well as domestic and local Hungarian animals. Children usually like it there :-)
