Scary real stories about abandoned estates. Abandoned places, buildings, structures. Blue spiral staircase in a European castle

All over the world there are abandoned buildings covered with legends of the past. Those who love tickling the nerves often go there to see paranormal activity with their own eyes. And skeptics, who cannot be scared by any ghosts, listen with interest to stories related to this or that house. In this post, we've rounded up some of the creepiest abandoned buildings that will give you goosebumps.

There are many legends surrounding this eerie, abandoned hotel in Cyprus. Many people claim to have seen ghosts there. "Why would ghosts go there?" - you ask. And it was like this ...

In 1930, the hotel flourished and was the most popular tourist destination. Berengaria was owned by one very rich man who had three sons. When his father was dying, he decided to divide the inheritance in the form of a hotel and family wealth between his sons equally.

Across certain time the brothers began to quarrel over the division of the profits brought by the hotel. And soon after the start of the conflict, they all died under very strange circumstances.

Not knowing the true cause of their death, people decided that their father and the hotel took revenge on them, which, by the way, turned out to be abandoned. Local residents took out everything that they could carry away from there. And it is believed that the hotel has become a haven for the ghosts of greedy brothers.

This abandoned building of the former sanatorium is located in Louisville, Kentucky (USA). In the 20s of the last century, this city had the highest death rates from tuberculosis, as it was located in a swampy area. In 1926, a sanatorium was built here, famous for its advanced methods of treating then incurable tuberculosis.

Nevertheless, the mortality rate in the sanatorium was very high. So that patients do not see how many people are dying, it was decided to build a special tunnel 150 meters long and send the bodies of the dead through it to railway station... It was named the "Tunnel of Death".

When a cure for tuberculosis was finally found, the sanatorium was empty. After that, it housed a nursing home with a treatment center, which was closed due to the terrible conditions of the people. There was even talk of conducting experiments on elderly people. Since then, the building has been empty, vandals smashed the windows in it, took out all the furniture.

Everyone who visited this abandoned place vied with each other about the high paranormal activity there. In addition to strange sounds, slamming doors, randomly moving objects, visitors saw here a little boy playing with a ball, a woman with slit wrists calling for help; a hearse driving up to a service entrance to a building where coffins were loaded into it. We also saw the ghosts of two nurses here, one of whom hanged herself upon learning about the infection with tuberculosis, and the second threw herself out of the window.

The forgotten estate of the Demidov family is located in the village of Taitsy in Leningrad region, about 39 km from St. Petersburg. The owner of the house was the industrialist Alexander Demidov.

They say that Demidov's daughter, Sophia, suffered from tuberculosis in her youth. So that she could, without leaving the house, arrange walks in the fresh air, the corridor of the house passed in a circle along the windows, and wide glazed terraces were arranged on the sides of the building.

Legend has it that seriously ill Sophia read a lot, and dreamed of doing natural science, following the example of her grandfather. But the disease did not leave her. Once in the fall, from the terrace of the mansion, Sophia noticed an unfamiliar young man in the park. The girl violated the doctors' ban and left the house to meet the young man. They started dating every day. But one day the young man did not appear at the appointed hour. A thunderstorm broke out outside the window, and Sophia now and then ran out onto the front staircase to see if her friend was coming. Running out again, Sophia slipped and, hitting her head on a stone step, died.

Since then, her ghost appears on the terrace and halls of the house during a thunderstorm.

In fact, this is just a legend. And Sophia recovered safely and married the Chief Jägermeister, Count Pyotr Gavrilovich Golovkin. She died at the age of 62.

But extreme travelers claim that in the estate you can meet the spirit of Alexander Demidov himself. If you hide under the cover of night front staircase at home, you can hear rustles on the upper floors, as if something or someone is quietly flipping through the pages of an old book.

The abandoned Villa de Vecchi, also known as the "Haunted Mansion" is located in Italy near Lake Como. For many years now, it has attracted mysticism lovers from all over the world, thanks to its mystery.

In 1850, after returning home after long wanderings, Count Felix de Vecchi decided to create a cozy nest for his family. And he succeeded. In the first years of its creation, the villa enchanted guests with its warmth and comfort. It had a grand piano and a warm fireplace, and the walls were decorated with expensive frescoes. A wonderful park was laid out around the villa, in which a rather powerful fountain was even installed, working under the pressure of water from the mountainside.

It is rumored that there is one village in one area of the far north. It is abandoned and abandoned long ago. But, as the old-timers say, no one left there at all, and all the tenants disappeared without a trace. And it is not known what was the reason - whether the disease mowed everyone down or what unknown forces took them away. To this day, a single road passes through this village, leading to more lively places. And one day, when you are in these places, remember one rule - no one should travel at night through this village.

This story happened at the turn of the sixties - seventies of the last century. One night, two travelers on horseback were heading along this road. Of course, they had never heard of the local rule. One of them was young, daring, and his horse matched him: strong, fast and restive. He galloped ahead, humming merrily. An old man followed him at a leisurely pace. His faithful horse, with whom he lived almost all his life, wearily walked with his hooves on the road mud. There was nothing left for them to go through. It was getting dark, and they were going to approach their destination in the morning. Soon the young man turned to his companion.

Hey grandfather! I will rush forward and check the road. If anything, we will meet already at the place.

Well, go. I'll get there on my own somehow, otherwise my back aches to keep up with you.

The young man nodded eagerly and immediately galloped forward. The old man walked to himself for a while, until he rushed back. He looked pleased and delighted. Looks like he brought good news.

There is a village ahead. There is a kind woman living there. She said she would shelter us for the night, treat us to dinner.

How good it is! - the old one was also delighted. - Finally, we will spend the night in a human way: under the roof and in the warmth.

Well, I rode. - The young man explained where to find that house and drove the horse, hurrying to find himself at the warm hearth.

The night was in full swing when the old man entered the village. She was not good. The houses looked askew, the empty windows looked unkindly. In the distance, in the midst of this devastation, a light burned and smoke rose. "What did that woman lose here?" - the old man doubted to himself. He drove into the courtyard, dismounted. He took the horse at the bridle and began to tie it to the serge (the Yakut pillar to which the horses were tied. Also, in addition to its practical significance, it has a sacred meaning about the connection with three worlds: upper, middle and lower). Then the horse kicked in, looked at the owner with a human glance and said to him: “In bad place you came, old, but what to do. Do not say anything. Pretend you can't hear. I feel there is a bad force lurking in this house. The owner of the house is not a man, but an embittered spirit. Do as I tell you if you want to live. Don't bind me. And untie that young one too. As soon as you enter the house, the hostess will start treating you with different dishes. Politely refuse and eat what you have with you. And then, when she’s going to settle you for the night, don’t listen to her. Lie down in front of the door. Do not fall asleep, do not close your eyes and listen. Maybe you can live until the morning. And if something goes wrong, immediately run and saddle the young horse. Faster and stronger he is me. And I will follow. Don't say my words to your friend. He will laugh at him, and he is already doomed. "

The old man was old and superstitious, and therefore was not surprised. He did not bind the horses and with a heavy heart set off along the overgrown path to the house. From fear of the unknown, a spasm ran down their spines, cold sweat came out. After all, I could smell it! A woman cannot live alone in an abandoned village! And so, with trembling knees, the old man stepped into the house. In spite of everything, the oven crackled hospitably in the house, there was a delicious smell of boiled meat. The young man sat at the table and devoured both cheeks. The hostess was bustling around him. Not young, but not old either, plump, economic. Inspires confidence. The old man greeted the hostess and sat down at the table next to the young man. Placing dinner in front of the old man, she kept asking what was happening in the world, what news they had. Like an ordinary woman in the wilderness. Yes, the old horse would not have deceived the old man, and therefore he kept on his guard, but at the same time tried not to betray himself. Large, juicy and fatty pieces of boiled meat, sour cream, cottage cheese, jam - all this was at the table. How did she manage to keep the farm in such an abandoned place? The old man was finally convinced of the words of his old friend. The old man did not touch the bewitched food, he took out his oats, cooked a little earlier and sat quietly in the corner. The young man looked at the old man in bewilderment and reproached him for not showing respect for the hostess, refusing to eat.

Why did you get your oats? Show respect for the kind mistress, taste something.

I would be glad, but my stomach is no longer the same as in my youth. - He excused himself with all courtesy. - I can't taste this meat. Tomorrow, after all, get up early and go for a long time. Don't get it wrong, kind mistress.

You seem to be completely out of your mind, since you reject such mercy! Well, okay, I'll get more.

The table was soon empty, and the conversation subsided. The woman invited everyone to sit closer to the fire. They went to bed. The young man lay down warm by the fire, and fell asleep as soon as he closed his eyes. The old man lay down at the door. He lay there, listening and trembling. The fire in the stove was extinguished surprisingly quickly. Cold rose from the floor and gradually reached the bones, but the old man remained in place. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a shadow running quickly across the wall. The old man was scared in earnest. Then he heard soft sounds as if someone was drinking and chomping. Sounds came from around the far dark corner. The old man quietly got up, took his knapsack and looked around.

And it immediately became clear that he should not have done this.

The mistress's silhouette was visible in the darkness. She fumbled in the dark on all fours. Terror gripped him as the moon lit up that corner a little. She dragged the young one there and devoured him with a frenzy. All shaking, the old man carefully opened the door, trying to leave without being noticed. Coming out, he touched the edge of his clothes on a stick at the threshold, which fell to the floor with a wild crash. The hostess cast her inhuman, hungry look. The old man screamed in panic and rushed outside. The old man fled from the accursed house as if the years he had lived had retreated to him. Behind him could be heard the screams of the hostess, filled with anger and resentment. Having reached, the old man almost out of habit did not jump on his horse, but he remembered what he had told him, and in a second he was already galloping at full speed on the young one. Behind him is the old one. The young horse sensed the old man's fear and rushed at full speed.

“I’ll catch up with you! You won't get away from me anywhere! " - shouted the hostess from behind.

The horse told the old man not to look back. But he couldn’t help himself. The grandfather looked around, and fear settled forever in the heart. This woman ran like a dog at the speed of a bear. Her eyes burned in the night with a red fire, her mouth is huge, with sharp protruding fangs. A long tongue dangled after. All her face and hands were covered in blood. She made vile expectorant sounds as she ran. The distance between them was rapidly decreasing.

“Run, master! I didn't have much left anyway ”- only the loyalty of the old horse was stronger than fear. The old one stopped abruptly, rearing up and turned to the accursed mistress. The old man never saw his old faithful horse again, and did not forget to remember him with a kind word.

“I’ll find you! I'll get it out of the ground! You can't run away from me! I ate your friend, I will eat your horse and soon I will come to you! " - the woman, distraught with impotent rage, shouted after the old man. He seemed to have heard these words more than once at night somewhere in the distance.

The old man did not dare to follow this road even in daylight, and therefore returned home. Then he learned that this woman appeared at night, luring and kidnapping travelers. Maybe it was she who devoured all the inhabitants of that village, or maybe she appeared after. Nevertheless, this village still stands to this day, and no one dares to walk through it when the sun goes down.

P.S. This village, as I was told, can be seen from images from orbit, but the author does not remember its name: this story has been told for a long time. By the way, the car is not a horse, it will not warn you if something happens.

The story will focus on a place shrouded in a terrible mystery that cannot be solved until now. No one can give at least some rational explanation for everything that happened. Just rumors full of mysticism. It will be about an abandoned house and about small children who dared to visit it. scary place.

That building was abandoned two years ago due to unexplained phenomena that happened to the inhabitants of this city. Without exception, everyone fell ill with an unknown disease, and doctors could not associate symptoms with already known infections or diseases. Her symptoms were headache, nausea, weakness, fever, delirium. The residents of this house were hospitalized with an unknown illness, but within two days their health improved and they were rapidly recovering. They were discharged, but after a week they returned. Then people realized that all the troubles came from this house, although there was no confirmation of this: the sanitary conditions were observed, and the residents themselves were not infected. Taking with them only money and documents, they left their home.

No one could explain the problem with this house, and the authorities gave it up, declaring it unfit for habitation, but they did not demolish it - they thought that over time everything would subside, then they would carry out repairs and hand over it as new, especially the entire building ten years.

At night, passers-by and residents of the building opposite noticed that a faint light was burning in the windows of the abandoned house. Everyone took it as a trick of local homeless people and drug addicts who simply have nowhere to hide. Once a scandalous news broke out in the newspapers, which described the large radioactive background of this house. The television "came", measured - the counters showed values within the normal range. They blamed it on the imagination of young people, and then some of the local amateurs measured the level of radiation at night when the lights were visible. Imagine his surprise when he saw that the radioactive background was exceeded five times! Again we came from television, measured it: everything was normal, but during measurements at night, the radiation remained high. We were surprised, of course, but no one dared to write about it, and to speak in the news too. Then there were people who tried to see what caused these lights, but no one returned. They searched - no bodies were found, and their clothes were neatly folded in one of the apartments. They didn't talk about it on television and didn't write about it in the newspapers.

Therefore, everyone is afraid of this place.

Vasya, Dima and Ruslan sat on a bench near playground and talked:

Boring something. Don't you? - said Ruslan.

Boredom. - Vasya and Dima answered together.

And let's get into the abandoned place? A? - Ruslan suggested.

Are you crazy? Everyone knows that going there is not something that is impossible - it is life-threatening! - Dima warned.

But we will go there because it is impossible and because it is dangerous. - Ruslan spoke. - Or are you afraid?

But no, I'm not afraid! Let's go tomorrow! - Dima got angry.

And you, Vasya, are you coming with us? Ruslan asked.

No! And do not persuade me! - Vasya refused.

Well, you are a coward in life, but we are brave! - Ruslan boasted

"Yah you!" - with these words Vasya left. And Ruslan and Dima were left to sit and plan tomorrow's raid.

The next day, two friends went to meet the danger. They felt like heroes. Vasya met them at the threshold of the ominous house.

You will not interfere with us! - Ruslan shouted.

And I do not want to disturb you, I am with you. - Vasya smiled.

Ruslan noticed something new in him. There was no longer that drawn-out voice that Vasya used to say: no, he changed to a confident and slightly mocking tone. Ruslan even had a chill down his spine. But he liked the change. The new Vasya was exactly what he wanted to see him.

Why are your eyes some kind of red? - said Dima.

Never mind, I was the one who weathered them. - The new Vasya was justified.

Come on then. - Ruslan commanded.

To my disappointment, the house turned out to be less mysterious than Ruslan had imagined. An ordinary abandoned house with no mystical signs or creaky doors. There are no intimidating moans and whispering voices that are so beautifully presented in horror films. The annoyed heroes wanted to return but:

Let's go upstairs, it's interesting! - Vasya suggested.

Great idea! Let's go! - said Ruslan.

Dima, silently, watched the new Vasya: there was something ominous in him and it haunted neither him, nor, as it turned out, Ruslan. Both secretly looked at his back, expecting something terrible from this "stranger."

As they climbed from floor to floor, the situation grew more tense with each passing second. Everyone, except for the "stranger", wanted to retreat, just run away and forget about it as a nightmare.

Dima tugged at the sleeve of his friend's jacket, with tears in his eyes, he gestured to him with gestures that he wanted to return, and a seal of horror froze on Ruslan's pale face: he could not stop and, as if spellbound, climbed the stairs.

Dima gathered all his will into a fist and tried to quietly retreat: with small quiet steps he wanted to get away from it all, just get away. But the new Vasya stopped, turned towards the fugitive, asked him: "Are you afraid?" And he smiled broadly, showing his fangs.

Not remembering themselves, the friends ran downstairs as much as possible. As they descended, they heard the devilish laugh of the "stranger."

Already on the second floor Ruslan stumbled and rolled up the steps to the exit. From pain he could not move, but Dima's faithful friend came to the rescue. Grabbing his hand, he dragged his comrade, trying to save him. Already a meter away from the door, a new and already devilish Vasya appeared out of the darkness. He grabbed Ruslan's leg with a dead grip and pulled him in his direction.

The poor fellow had no strength, he could not resist. Exhausted, Dima fell into unconsciousness.

Parents came to the rescue too late. Vasya, the real one, when he did not find his friends, ran to their parents to tell them about it. Learning about everything, not remembering themselves, they ran to this accursed house. But it was too late: when they entered, they found only clothes: there were no bodies, no signs of the presence of children. Careful searches have yielded no results, as in the previous case.

If you are interested in abandoned buildings and ghosts, then we offer you a kind of guide: in these abandoned buildings located in different parts of the world, according to local legends, you can not only touch the history, but also meet ghosts. Almost all of these places can be visited independently, since access to them is free, but we still strongly recommend visiting only virtually. So, let's begin:

Berengaria Hotel (hotel "Berengaria")

where: Prodromos, Cyprus
The hotel, built in 1930 by a wealthy man, flourished in the 1950s and 1970s, bringing in considerable profits. However, the death of the hotel owner foretold a sad fate for his brainchild. He bequeathed the management of the hotel to his three sons, who at first managed to run the family business. However, later, when quarrels began on the basis of the distribution of profits, all three brothers died one after the other under very strange circumstances. They say that it was the owner and the hotel who took revenge on them for not being able to keep their promise. Everything that could be taken out of the hotel was taken out locals and the hotel fell into complete disrepair. The ghosts of the brothers are said to have settled in the ruins of the building.

Bhangarh Fort (Bangar Fort)

Where: On the road to Alwar and Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
On the way to the castle, signs are striking, which strictly prohibit approaching it after sunset, since those who dare to do so will never come back! Tradition says that a black magician sent a curse on Bangar and its inhabitants because the shadow of the fort fell on sacred place which was intended for meditation. He cursed everyone, saying that they would die a painful death, and their spirits would remain in the castle for centuries. And so it all happened. This castle really casts an animal fear on every mortal. The government of India somehow decided to debunk the terrible myth and put armed patrols in the fort, but there are still daredevils.

Diplomat Hotel (hotel "Diplomat")

where: Baguio, Philippines
Residents of houses in the vicinity complain of chilling sounds - groans, screams, slamming doors, hurrying steps - coming, they say, from the direction of an abandoned hotel. During World War II, this building served as a refuge for refugees, repeatedly subjected to shelling and bombing. The soldiers of the Japanese army executed many innocent sisters of mercy here. When a hotel was opened in the building in the 70s of the last century, its inhabitants repeatedly dreamed of silhouettes of mysterious black figures walking through the halls, appearing in the windows hiding behind curtains.

St. John's Hospital (Saint John's Hospital)

Where: Lincolnshire, England
This hospital, founded in 1852, was created for the sick, poor, who suffered from mental disabilities. For obvious reasons, few people worried about the fate of the poor patients, so cruel methods of treatment were applied to the unfortunate patients. When in 1989, after the closure of the hospital, the hired workers were asked to take all the medical supplies out of the building, they could not spend even a couple of days there. According to the men, they were constantly haunted by terrifying screams of unknown origin. Firefighters were called to the abandoned hospital more than once, as it seemed to people passing by by chance that tongues of flame were bursting out of the windows. The fire brigades who came each time did not find any signs of a fire, but they saw some strange lights flickering in the corridors.

Salesian School

where: Goshen, New York, USA
This Catholic school for boys was built on the territory of a former aristocratic estate. She was honored and respected until one day, in 1964, one of her pupils died: 9-year-old Paul Ramos crashed to death, falling from the roof of one of the educational buildings. Then the death of the boy was explained by a tragic accident, but at the beginning of the 2000s, this case again interested the press and special services. As it turned out, the student's body lay too far from the school building: for it to fall at such a distance, someone had to push it, but finding the killer is, of course, already unrealistic. Currently, the school building is under protection, but those few daredevils who managed to bypass it and approach the abandoned building, according to them, saw the silhouette of a boy in the window openings.

Baldoon Castle

where: Bladnock, Scotland
During the day, the ruins of the castle do not evoke anything ominous, but at night, they say, you can see the ghost of the bride Janet Dalrymple, dressed in a bloody wedding dress. According to legend, in the middle of the 17th century, her parents forced her down the aisle for the rich owner of this castle, although she herself loved a poor guy named Archibald. However, the girl did not have to marry the unloved girl. A few minutes before the bride goes to wedding ceremony, she was found stabbed to death in a room where brides await their exit to the altar. Some say that this is the work of a rejected lover, while others believe that Janet committed suicide.

Great Isaac Cay Lighthouse

Where: Great Isaac Cay Island, Bahamas
The designation of this island is not in every map, but its coordinates are well known to ghost hunters. Legend has it that in the 19th century, not far from the island, there was a shipwreck, in which only a small child managed to survive. No one knows how his future fate developed, but until now, at night, the spirit of the child's mother - a lady in gray - wanders around the abandoned lighthouse, crying bitterly with grief. Two caretakers who lived here disappeared in 1969 under mysterious circumstances. Their bodies have not been found to this day. Many associate this secret with the fact that the island is geographically located in Bermuda Triangle, although according to skeptics, people simply died during Hurricane Anna, which carried their bodies into the ocean.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium

where: Louisville, Kentucky, USA
The building of the former sanatorium for tuberculosis patients has repeatedly been recognized as one of the most eerie places in the United States. Students of pan-normal activity believe that it is very high here. To a large extent, this refers to the "tunnel of death", which was originally cut for the employees of the sanatorium: thus, they got to their workplaces faster and safer, bypassing the rather steep hillsides. And later this tunnel began to be used in order to secretly take out the bodies of deceased patients: the living did not need to see how their neighbors in the ward set off on their last journey. Ghosts were seen not only in a narrow and terrifyingly dark corridor, but also inside separate rooms. So, for example, in the 502nd room lives the spirit of a nurse who hanged herself here after she, who was pregnant, learned that she had contracted tuberculosis. Those wishing to visit an abandoned sanatorium can do it as part of an excursion group.
