Ancient theater

The ancient theater is one of the main attractions of the architectural and historical complex of Perge, located near the settlement of Belek. This theater, designed for twelve thousand spectators, was built by the Romans on the site of a similar Hellenic building in the second century BC.

The ancient theater is considered one of the best preserved theaters in Asia Minor. The height of the theater stage, decorated with bas-reliefs, is 25 meters. In the bowl of the amphitheater there are 42 rows of seats - 19 at the bottom and 23 at the top. Some of the decorations of the theater are still in their places, but some were transported to the Historical Museum of Antalya for greater preservation.

There are ruins thirty kilometers from Antalya ancient city Aspindos. The main attraction of this museum is under open air- Zeno's theater-palace, dating back to 167 AD. This is the largest building of its kind - the theater's capacity was 20 thousand spectators.

The ancient palace theater is considered the best-preserved theater in Asia Minor. According to legend, it was in this theater that the curtain was first used. An innovation in architecture of that period was the addition of walls, rather than the use of natural relief... It was this theater that was the first to be built in this way. The preservation of the building is so satisfactory that even today it is used every year for an opera and ballet festival.

During the Hittite kingdom, Hattusha had a population of up to 50,000. The city was destroyed along with the Hittite kingdom around 1200. BC. The capital of the once mighty Hittite empire appeared to our contemporaries only thanks to the work of archaeologists. Almost all that remains of the huge empire are the ruins of a great city and mysterious letters that have not yet been fully deciphered by scientists.

On the territory of the excavations, you can walk along the once crowded streets and squares of the legendary Hattusha, examine the remains of palaces, religious and residential buildings, admire the cuneiform letters of ancient bas-reliefs that depict the history of a long-lost civilization. One of the main symbols of Belek is the mosque. It is located in the very center of the city and is a true example of local religious architecture. Tourists will love not only the mosque itself, against which spectacular photographs can be taken, but also the surrounding landscaped garden. There are several beautiful fountains with interesting stone compositions, and many ornamental plants are always planted next to the mosque.

Many who have visited Belek say that there is nothing to do outside the hotel. This is partly true, but I myself have lived in Belek for 4 years, so I know that if you wish, you can organize a pastime outside the hotel.

So, if you are tired of being on the territory of the hotel all the time and want at least a little variety:

1. A beach park (beach park) was opened in Belek last year. It is located next to the Sillium Hotel. The park is mainly intended for local residents and foreign property owners, as a public beach, a place to walk and a place to sit in a cafe or restaurant. So there is nothing special for the guests of the five-star residents to do there, however, as the purpose of a walk along the seashore, it will do quite well. From any hotel in Belek, you can walk to it along the shore, the main thing is to choose the right direction. The prices in the local cafes are VERY low, so you can have a beer or a snack without worrying that the hotel has already paid for it.

2. If you nevertheless chose the wrong direction of the walk, it’s not scary, you will still come to the beach park, only already belonging to the village of Kadriye. The prices are already much higher here, however there is a Mexican restaurant built in the style of a ranch where you can ride a horse.

3. In Kadriye you can see the so-called "garden of religions" - a place where a synagogue, a church and a mosque are located in one small area. This place is intended to show the tolerance of the Turks to all religions.

4. If you suddenly want to eat outside the hotel, I can recommend a fish restaurant (Balik Evi) in Belek, as a reference point you can ask Disco Stone. The atmosphere is so-so, but you can sit outside and the food is quite tasty. The Pasha bar has recently opened, the owners have tried to make a modern design and they say it turned out very well, although I myself was not. You can go to the already mentioned Mexican restaurant in Kadriye Beach Park. Well, in the afternoon, as an exotic thing, you can visit the golf club - National Golf (in Kadriye), the clubhouse is free (you can say that you will take golf lessons) and there is a good restaurant with European cuisine, the prices are reasonable.

5. If you are interested in history, the ruins of the ancient city of Aspendos are located 15 minutes drive from Belek. The amphitheater is especially interesting. It is very well preserved and during the summer various concerts are held there: classical music, opera, dance shows. Russian musicians are often involved. The concert is definitely worth a visit! Amazing experience - excellent acoustics, wonderful atmosphere of the ancient amphitheater. However, you will have to sit on the stone steps, so be sure to bring some kind of pillows. But it's really worth it. At the entrances to Aspendos there are picturesque restaurants, some of which are fish, in some they make gözleme (Turkish flatbread).

Also about 20 minutes drive from Belek are the ruins of 2 other ancient cities Sillyon and Perge. Sillyon is located on a hill, when you leave Belek on the main road towards Antalya, you can see it - a hill with a flat top.

6. If you are not going on rafting, then you should at least see the places where it is held - National park Koprulu Kanyon. First, really very beautiful nature... Secondly, there are several restaurants along the way that serve trout. And besides, there are ruins of another ancient city - Selge. The name koprulu canyon translates as canyon with a bridge. The bridge is ancient Roman, through the canyon where the river flows (along which rafting is carried out).

7. Belek is located half an hour drive from Antalya. In addition to the standard shopping in Antalya, there is something to do. First, it is worth visiting the Duden Falls. Lower Duden is located in Lara - it is a river that falls from the rocks into the sea. The sight is very beautiful. There is a cafe and a restaurant. They are municipal, so I don't recommend eating anything, but you can sit in a cafe, drink tea, very beautiful view on the sea. The upper Duden waterfall is located in the northeast of Antalya, in the upper course of the same river. Actually, this is a group of waterfalls, also very a nice place, there are several picturesque restaurants. East of Duden there is another waterfall, Kursunlu, they say it is also very beautiful, but I was not there myself. You can walk through the old city in the center of Antalya, narrow streets go down to the harbor, where you can take a yacht ride for an hour or two. In the evening, go to Konyaalti Beach Park (Konyaalti Beach Park) - many bars, discos, various restaurants, cafes, etc. is a very lively place where the youth of Antalya hang out.
