Koh Chang map

Koh Chang, whose image resembles the head of an elephant with a trunk, is becoming an increasingly popular tropical holiday destination among tourists around the world. Most of it relates to national park, so the influx of tourists here is naturally limited, and you can forget about the hustle and bustle of experienced resorts such as Phuket and Koh Samui. This island is the perfect solution for better rest in a picturesque and serene location. Koh Chang Thailand Hotels Map is also available for free at most hotels, travel agencies or cafes. On it you can find any hotel or guesthouse on any beach of the island. Hotels in Koh Chang on the map you can find below.

▣ Ko Chang Island is the second largest island in Thailand.

Koh Chang - real paradise for those who are really addicted wild nature... The island is surrounded by massive mountain ranges and is about 215 km², which is the third indicator among all similar islands in Thailand, after Phuket and Koh Samui.

It also belongs to the Mu Ko Chang National Marine Reserve. There are many different parks, carefully protected by the state.

Koh Chang Island on Thailand map

The island is located at a distance of about 300 kilometers from Bangkok and not far from the eastern province of Trat. The literal translation from the local language means "Elephant Island".

It got this name thanks to the image on the map, the outlines of which resemble the silhouette of an elephant. Near Chang there are about 50 more exotic islands for recreation. Most popular: and Ko Mak.

V this moment the island is home to about five thousand inhabitants. Their main activities are fruit growing and fishing. The local people are hospitable and friendly, so you will feel at home here.

The construction of bars, hotels and other entertainment venues is not proceeding as rapidly as in other areas. This is due to the fact that the island is still the most valuable national park. You won't have much fun here, this place is mostly suitable for a quiet family vacation... There are no crowds of drunk vacationers and girls of easy virtue. Prices for hotel rooms are quite cheap.

Prices here are slightly lower than in more popular resorts Thailand. This is an absolute plus, but depending on the level of the establishments and the assortment offered, you will have to spend money.

The maximum that can please lovers of nightlife is several bars and venues where discos and various events are held. Tourists can also be interested in: elephant trekking in the jungle, diving, fire shows, fishing. You can still go to little trip on neighboring islands.

How to get there

You can get to Koh Chang in three ways - by plane, by bus and by taxi to the city of Trat. First of all, you need to understand that Ko Chang is an island, which means that any type of travel includes a ferry. The main ferry piers are Center Point Pier and Koh Chang Ferry Pier.

▣ Ferry to Koh Chang.

Ferries from Koh Chang Ferry Pier regularly depart from the pier and sail for half an hour, and from Center Point Ferry Pier about an hour. They run from 6 am to 7 pm. Cost, 80 baht per passenger one way, or 120 for a round trip ticket.

Koh Chang Marina Map

By plane

There is no airport on Koh Chang, the closest is in the city of Trat. Only one airline operates there - Bangkok Air. The air ticket price is from 3000 baht, travel time is 1 hour. You can see the schedule on their website, and book tickets there. Flights are operated three times a day - at 8:40, 10:30 and 17:05. After that, you need to catch a mini-bus and go to the pier. The cost is 100 baht.

By bus

From Ekamai Bus Terminal (Bangkok East Station) or Mo Chit Bus Terminal (Bangkok North Station). The buses are comfortable, air-conditioned, making stops along the way, arriving at the Trat Bus Terminal or directly to the pier. Buses run to Trat every half hour, from 6 am to 11 pm. From Trat to the pier, you can take a songteo, the cost is 50-100 baht. Travel time 30 minutes.

Taxi

You can use a taxi, the cost will be 3500-4500 baht from the airport. If you have already reached the city, then you can try to catch it with your hand and bargain. In this case, the trip will cost about 2 thousand baht. If you went on vacation with a large company, then the best choice would be to rent a minibus. By the way, a very good option, because for only a modest four hundred baht per person, he will take you to your destination.

There is no sea service between Koh Chang and other resorts in Thailand.

Transport

WITH by public transport here it is problematic. Therefore, you will have only two ways to get around. The first is to rent a bike or a car, the second is to get around on a songteo.

Renting a bike will cost you 150-300 baht per day, if you rent it for a long time, then the price will be 3000-3500 baht per month. Helmet included. In the case of long-term rentals, it is recommended to bargain with the owners. Renting a car is the same. Price per day from 1100 to 2000 baht. To rent you will need a passport (or at least a copy of it) - it is advisable to leave a security deposit to avoid unpleasant circumstances.

▣ Rent of bikes.

If you do not want to get involved with renting a vehicle, then songteo - the best way... Always negotiate a price with the driver in advance and bargain. On average, the cost of a trip with two people is 100 baht. The peculiarity of this type of transport is that rental prices rise significantly in the morning and late at night. Therefore, it is better to use the day.

The beaches of the island differ in that they are located at a fairly large distance from each other and it will be quite difficult to get there on foot. Therefore, it would be best to use the Songthaew taxi service.

There is really another option - this is walking in Koh Chang.

sights

Upon arrival in Thailand on the island of Chang, the first thing to do is to make a plan of excursions in order not only to relax on the sunny beach, but also to do nice pictures against the backdrop of local attractions. Be sure to visit the Klong Phlu waterfall, which is located near the Klong Prao beach. Very comfortable for bathing. The depth in one of its bowls reaches 7 meters.

▣ Klong Plu Waterfall

Than Mayom - this waterfall, which forms a beautiful pool with four cascades. It is noteworthy that nearby you can put up a tent or set up a camping.

There are many other waterfalls here that are worth seeing. Such bodies of water include: Kiri Pet, Nang Yom and Klong Nung.

Since they are also part of national reserve, you can visit them only if you buy a ticket for 200 baht.

if you love scenic spots then Klong Son will not leave you indifferent. This bay offers a stunning view that you can admire for hours and take amazing photos. It is no secret that the locals are mainly engaged in fishing. If you want to watch how this happens and plunge into daily life Thais, then you can go to fishing villages, for example, Rong Than and Salak Pet, Bang Bao.

The most famous village in Thailand is Bang Bao. It differs in that the local residents' bungalows are located right in the sea on a special stage. Here fish is caught and processed. By the way, in the fishing villages you can visit branded restaurants where local food is prepared, learn about the traditions and mentality of local residents, and also find out what they do.

On Koh Chang, you can get unforgettable emotions by riding the elephants. We also recommend visiting the monkey school and see how they were tamed. The school is called Koh Chang Monkey School. She is located on White Sand Beach. The show lasts for an hour.

The most memorable entertainment, however, is Flight of the Gibbon. This attraction will cause a huge amount of adrenaline and unreal drive among tourists. Here you will travel through the jungle using ropes for several hours.

Religion in Koh Chang is an important part of the culture. Chao Po is the main shrine which means "Holy Father Ko Chang". Residents firmly believe that if you constantly pray to the Father, then a real miracle can happen.

▣ Chao Po Shrine on Koh Chang Island.

A special monument of local residents is the memorial to the heroes of the naval battle. It became famous for the fact that at the beginning of the twentieth century, during the battle between the Thais and the French, a ship of the local fleet was wrecked here.

▣ Bang Bao Lighthouse on Koh Chang Island.

As you can see, there are no special attractions, with the exception of a few waterfalls, ancient temples and the aforementioned entertainments. However, stunningly picturesque places will completely replace the lack of large excursion programs.

Beaches

The most popular destination is White Sand Beach. There is a huge number of restaurants, bars, various shops and massage parlors. Lonely Beach is the perfect place for a photo, as the white sand blends harmoniously with the rocky landscape.

There are parties here almost every night. open air... Of course, the level of such events is quite mediocre, but there are enough people going. One of the advantages of beaches is that even in the most popular places you can find a secluded spot where you can walk.

The authorities are extremely serious about the ecology of the island. Therefore, the water and the shore are always in perfect purity. Moreover, the preservation of such a state is the responsibility of not only residents, but also visitors.

You can also relax on the beaches located in the western part of the coast, such as: Hat Sai Khao, Bang Bao, Klong Son, Klong.

Weather

The weather on Koh Chang is not always pleasant for holidaymakers. Due to the monsoon winds, rainy weather sets in from June to October, so the best period will be from November to May. During this period, the weather is always sunny, and the temperature is about 30 degrees. The rainiest month is August. Almost all resorts accept holidaymakers all year round, but there are exceptions.

Lodging

On Chang, you can live as you please, ranging from inexpensive bungalows to modern chic houses on the oceanfront. Most of the hotels are located in close proximity to the beaches, and the cost directly depends on its location and level of accommodation. If you want a more peaceful and secluded stay, then you can rent a bungalow.

Housing prices start at 150 baht. By the way, for 300-450 baht you can find a decent bungalow with all the amenities. House or guest house - prices average 700-900 baht per night. Hotel room on average 2500 baht.

▣ Cozy bungalows on the beach.

The most popular hotel is KC Grande Resort & Spa. In this hotel, tourists are provided with all conditions for comfortable rest and even more. Free wifi and parking, pool, fitness, spa treatments and more.

Villa Plounge Pool is also distinguished by its hospitality and high level of service. The hotel base provides a wide selection to its clients.

Somewhere near Koh Chang 🙂

Climate

The climate on Koh Chang is tropical. The high (dry) season is from November to May, but it is very hot in March and April. Summer is the rainy season. But this does not mean that it will rain all day. Mostly it rains at night and does not interfere with a pleasant stay. And the climate has been changing in recent years. We rested on Koh Chang in the dry season, in November - it rained every evening 🙂

Transport on Koh Chang island

An asphalt road runs along the coast of the island, unfortunately this road does not ring the island, but ends in the south. The main tourist infrastructure is located in the west of Koh Chang, traffic is more dense here than in the east. During the day, public transport runs along the western part of the island - songteo (open minibuses), which in the evening turns into a taxi. The fare between the nearest beaches during the day is 50 baht per person. There is no taxi on the meter, like in Bangkok, on Koh Chang. If you see such a taxi, it means they are visitors, from Bangkok 🙂

The main transport on Koh Chang is a bike, there are very few cars. The bike can be rented from 150 baht per day. As a deposit, you must leave either a passport or a copy of the passport and money (usually 2-3 thousand baht).

We rented a Honda Click 125 for 200 baht per day. You can find bikes for less on White Sand Beach

Gasoline is sold mainly in bottles - 35-40 baht per 0.7 liter bottle. The only normal gas station is located between the ferry crossing and White Sand Beach, but they refuse to refuel for less than 100 baht!

On Koh Chang, gasoline was bought in bottles for 35-40 baht
Refueling between White Sand Beach and the ferry with reasonable prices, but you cannot refuel for less than 100 baht

Since Koh Chang is a mountainous island and there are several dangerous sections of the road with steep serpentines, many people have a question to rent a bike on Koh Chang or not?

One of the dangerous sections of the road in front of the entrance to White Sand Beach

There are two dangerous sections of the road in tourist places:

  • If you go from the ferry to the west, then at the entrance to (there is also an observation deck)
  • Before the beach (before reaching Siam Beach Resort)

The empty roads of Koh Chang
Almost empty roads in Koh Chang

The east coast of the island seemed to us ideal place for learning to ride a bike: the road is good, there are no mountains, there are no people-machines-bikes either! That's where you need to practice driving a bike!

Perfect empty road in the east of the island

Hotels and long term homes on Koh Chang

Accommodation and hotels on Koh Chang are either bungalows or low 2-4 storey buildings. Fortunately, skyscrapers, like in or in, are not allowed to be built on the island. All houses should be lower than palm trees 🙂

The Thai government is trying to turn the paradise quiet island of Koh Chang into a top resort with expensive luxury hotels, so lovers of comfortable rest will find a large selection of luxury hotels on Koh Chang.

Thrifty travelers will also not be left homeless on Koh Chang. Bungalows can be found for 250 baht per day! A lot of inexpensive housing is located on White Sand Beach on the second line from the sea across the road, in the direction of the jungle, as well as in the village of Lonely Beach, which is so beloved by us.

There is accommodation on Koh Chang for every wallet

Book a hotel on Koh Chang for:

The most rated and popular hotels in Koh Chang:

Most of the cheap guesthouses are not featured on booking sites!

Book in advance for holidays and weekends! A lot of Thais from the mainland come to rest on Koh Chang.

Long-term housing is not doing as well as it is on. At first, most of the island's land is given over to the development of expensive hotel complexes, and secondly, local entrepreneurs still do not want Ko Chang to become the second Samui, where many winterers and long-livers have settled, because tourists on vacation spend much more money than permanently residing freelancers, yes and they won't bargain for a couple of dollars.

Koh Chang attractions and things to do on the island

There are not so many attractions on Koh Chang, mainly people come to the island for a relaxing beach holiday. One of the attractions of the island is just its beaches and almost no touched nature... What else to visit on Koh Chang:

Waterfalls

Temples

There are several small temples on Koh Chang. I wrote in detail about the temples of Ko Chang.

Observation Decks

There are several equipped observation decks on the island. The most official of them is on the mountain near Kai Bay. About observation decks Koh Chang in detail in

Ride elephants

Come to Thailand and not ride the elephants? It's almost about us 🙂 We only once rode an elephant in the vicinity. The cost of elephant trekking on Koh Chang is from 900 baht per person. There are several elephant farms on Koh Chang, one near the Klong Plu Waterfall and several along the main road.

Go kayaking

On the beach, you can rent a kayak for 100 baht per hour and swim to the neighboring islands. Four small islands are located opposite the southern end of Cai Bay Beach. You can also go kayaking in the mangroves in the east of the island.

Kayaks for rent on Kai Bay Beach - 100 baht per hour, 400 baht for half a day

Visit a fishing village

Go on an excursion to Cambodia

Koh Chang is located near the border with Cambodia, you can go on an excursion to the famous. Highly recommend!

Nightlife on the island

The island's nightlife is concentrated in two places: White Sand and Lonely Beach. There are several nightclubs on White Sand beach, there are also bars where you can rent taekas, but everything, of course, is much quieter and quieter than in Pattaya or Phuket.

Lonely Beach often hosts beach parties, where they dance until the morning. The audience is mostly young foreigners, backpackers, hippies, etc. Lonely Beach also has a bunch of cute bars where it is nice to sit, drink cocktails, chat and listen to live music.

Siam Hut Bar - they hang out until the morning, and every Friday there is a beach party

A fire show is held on White Sand Beach. We loved to watch the fire show on and on, this time we did not find it on Lonely Beach.

Koh Chang Island we liked it very much, it is perfect for beach holiday... I don't understand why everyone is fixated on Koh Samui? The beaches on Koh Chang are no worse, and some are even better than, the landscapes are beautiful, the jungle is untouched, there is housing for every taste and budget.

Yes, the infrastructure on Koh Chang is not as well developed as on Koh Samui, but maybe this is the beauty of the island, maybe just now it is worth hurrying up and visiting Koh Chang before it becomes the second Koh Samui? After all, I saw Samui in 2005 as completely different, not as hectic and Russian-speaking as it is now.

Is Koh Chang suitable for a beach holiday? - definitely yes

Is Koh Chang suitable for families with children? - yes, especially the beaches of Klong Prao and Chai Chet

Is K Chang suitable for wintering? - yes, but if only for a period of 1-2 months. It seems to me that in 2 months it will become boring there. Yes, and with shops everything is not unambiguous, you need to look for a cheap local market 🙂

If you decide to go on your own, that is, to completely plan your vacation on Koh Chang exactly the way you want it, and not as tour operators do it for you, then in any case you will need to get to the island, book accommodation in a hotel or a private house and organize your leisure time. Local Russian guys who live and work on the island since 2010 Satang.ru can help you with these and many other questions.

Often, tickets for excursions and minibuses on Koh Chang are cheaper to buy already on the spot, without booking seats in advance, since in the high season from October to April they pass every day and there are always free seats. Their prices are the same as in other tourist shops on the island, but at the same time you get a service in Russian, and at any time you need. If you need to take care of renting a private house or villa for several weeks or months in advance, which is not available anywhere on the Internet, then they will also help you!

Igor and Ekaterina will not only answer any of your questions about the island for free, but also give advice: where to eat, where to go for a massage, how to see the island on a budget and on your own, they will answer all those small but important questions that are usually so reluctant to answer meeting guides in hotels, and in the case of Satang.ru you just need to call them on the phone!

The Satang.ru office is located at the very beginning of Klong Prao beach, by Chaichet Bay, opposite the Paradise resort, Chaichet resort and Coconut beach resort hotels, so if you are located somewhere nearby, be sure to stop by to say hello 🙂

Friends, now you know almost everything about Ko Chang. Share articles on social networks with your friends, maybe someone will also discover Paradise Island Koh Chang 🙂

Koh Chang Island is ideal for a beach holiday. It is for the sake of beautiful beaches , warm sea with clean water, an almost unspoiled jungle, tourists also come to Koh Chang. What is the best beach in Koh Chang? Which beach to choose for a family vacation, and which one for a youth? In this article about all the beaches of Koh Chang, our review and reviews. And if you are considering for a beach holiday also Koh Samui island, then I advise you to read, and then compare which of the islands is more suitable for you for a vacation.

There are ten main beaches on Koh Chang:

and several small beaches and coves. All major beaches (except Long Beach) are located on west coast islands, but Eastern Koh Chang is not very suitable for swimming. The coast there looks almost everywhere like this, as in the photo below:

East coast of Koh Chang island

Koh Chang Island Map

Let's start our review with the beaches west coast... From the ferry crossing, which can be reached from the mainland (read my article), we move counterclockwise from north to south.

White Sand Beach

White Sand Beach- the most famous, noisy, most popular beach on Koh Chang island. It is here that tour operators send our tourists on vacation. It was on White Sand Beach that we saw most of the inscriptions and signs in Russian (but fear not, there are not as many of them there as in or in 🙂).

White Sand Beach is the closest of all other beaches to ferry crossing, you can get to it in just 15-20 minutes and 50 baht.

The beach is long, but the sand, despite the name, is not entirely white. In any case, not as white as on the Gili Islands in Indonesia or on.

White Sand is conventionally divided into two parts: north and south. There is a road along the southern part, and there are many expensive hotels near the sea. But the northern part of the beach can only be reached on foot. And the hotels are simpler here, the atmosphere is more youthful.

Hotels and guesthouses are located both on the coast and in the jungle inland. On White Sand Beach, you can find accommodation for every taste and budget.

The infrastructure on White Sand Beach is well developed - here you will find everything you need for relaxation and even for a long stay.

Shops, cafes, bars, karaoke, bakery with cheap food, night discos - all of this is present in sufficient quantity on White Sand Beach.

The beach is ideal for those who like to be in the center of events and for lovers of fun and parties. And White Sand is often chosen for life by long-livers of the island because of its good (by island standards) infrastructure. More details here:

South of White Sand Beach on the map Pearl Beach, but the coast in this part of Koh Chang is rocky, so Pearl Beach is not at all suitable for a beach holiday (unless you prefer to swim in the pools rather than in the sea).

Chai Chet Beach

Chai Chet Beach - a small cozy beach in the bay. The beach belongs to hotels that carefully monitor the order on the beach, remove garbage and clean the sand. But anyone can come to sunbathe on the beach, the main thing is not to occupy the hotel loungers and swings 🙂

The sand on the beach is fine, the entrance to the sea is shallow. Chai Chet Beach is ideal for families with children.

Klong Prao Beach

Klong Prao Beach- a long, almost 3 km long beach. The beach strip is separated from the main road by a coconut forest, so when choosing Klong Prao for recreation, you need to understand that you have to either be content with the infrastructure of hotels, or rent a bike, without a bike I would not be very comfortable there. Due to the distance from noisy restaurants and bars (there are only hotel restaurants on the beach), Klong Prao Beach is always quiet and peaceful.

The sea is shallow, the ebb and flow are very noticeable. Palms and conifers grow almost out of water 🙂

There are many expensive hotels on Klong Prao Beach that are ideal for romantic getaway and recreation with children. According to the majority of tourists visiting Koh Chang, Klong Prao is the most beautiful beach on the island (we have a different opinion 🙂).

There are also cheap hotels on Klong Prao, such as Tiger Hut. But it seems to me that rest in such a hotel is very for an amateur 🙂 Read more here:

Kai Bae Beach

We follow further south to Koh Chang and get to Kai Bay beach... Kai Bay is such a golden mean between the noisy White Sand and the quiet Klong Prao. The main island road runs along the beach, on which shops, cafes and restaurants are concentrated.

The beach itself is rocky in the north and sandy in the south. We found Kai Bay beach in a bad light due to bad weather and strong tide (or is it still low tide?). In fact, in good weather everything is much better here 🙂

Kai Bay beach in bad weather

There are many Russian speakers on the Kai Bay beach, especially many families with small children. Kai Bei ends.

Lonely Beach

Behind the difficult serpentine and mountain pass after Kai Bay begins Beach Lonely Beach... The jungle and mountains in this part of the island are very close to coastline and the beach. Monkeys walk along the road, birds chirp and the sound of a real rainforest is heard. This is how Lonely Beach greets tourists.

Despite its name ("Lonely" - "lonely") Lonely Beach is no longer deserted, as it was many years ago. There are, of course, much less people here than on the above beaches, especially in the northernmost part of it.

The sand on the beach is fine, but not quite like flour, but coarser. Smooth entry into the sea, ebb and flow are almost not felt. I recommend staying at Lonely Beach at the hotel.

Right (north) side of Lonely Beach

The southern part of Lonely Beach is rocky. A little further south begins the village of Lonely Beach itself with all the tourist infrastructure. Inexpensive housing can also be found here. For example, we lived in a nice house for several days. Houses are immediately rented and for a long time.

Unfortunately, in this part of the beach you will not be able to swim in the sea. But you can catch fish 🙂

The southern part of Lonely Beach is chosen by young people and backpackers from all over the world. It is on Lonely Beach that there are most young foreigners.

Lonely Beach is our favorite beach on Koh Chang. There is a special atmosphere of love, tranquility and happiness, which is difficult to convey in words.

Balian Bay beach

Balian Bay beach is further south after Lonely Beach. It is not very popular with tourists due to the undeveloped infrastructure (no shops, cafes). The northern part of the beach is rocky, but the southern part is very pretty.

South part of Balian Bay beach

Nearby is the Top Tree Adventure park (I talked about it a little in the review article about Koh Chang).

Bang Bao

Bang Bao it is a fishing village (very very touristy), full of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops along the long pier. There is no beach here, you can swim right from the porch of the house-hotel 🙂

Bang Bao fishing village

But if, before reaching Bang Bao, turn right to the cape, then we will get to a small beach. From a distance it looks even pretty, but not very close up, although you can buy.

Beach before reaching Bang Bao. This is what it looks like from the pier
but like this close 🙂

Detailed article with photos:

Khong Koi Beach

Kong Koi is a very pretty beach with coarse sand and azure waters. There are a lot of people at the beginning of the beach, near the road. But if we go further along the beach, we will find generally deserted places.

Part of Kong Koi beach closer to the road
A completely empty beach!

Kong Koi is a very beautiful beach, although the infrastructure is not very developed here, but there are cafes and accommodation. You will have to go to the shops in the neighboring village.

Grand Lagoona Beach

Entry to the beach of the Grand Laguna hotel will be a little further if you follow the road from Kong Koi Beach. The entrance to the hotel is paid.

The beach is located on the territory of the hotel, which is made in the form of a ship. The beach is almost empty! There is a swimming pool. The water in the sea is clean and clear, and the sand is dazzling. Just a picture of the Bounty. I advise!

Magnificent Grand Laguna Beach!

Long Beach

Long Beach can be said to be the only beach suitable for swimming on east coast Ko Chang. The road to it is hard.

The beach itself, in our opinion, is not worth the effort that must be overcome to get to Long Beach. and decide for yourself whether to go there or not.

Long Beach

On the way to Long Beach, we stopped at another small beach with a single hotel.

Koh Chang beach hotels

Pay attention to the special offers for Koh Chang hotels:

What is the best beach in Koh Chang?

What is the best beach in Koh Chang? I think for everyone the answer will be different 🙂

Best beach Koh Chang 🙂

For us in the first place, which ideally combines a beautiful almost deserted beach, a good not shallow sea and good infrastructure, a cafe with cheap food and dancing on the sand at night 🙂

In second place Kong Koi beach- I would not mind living there for a few days in a bungalow on the beach.
