Koh Kood Island Description of the island, how to get there. Koh Kood Island is one of the best romantic getaways

The Thai island of Koh Kood in the Gulf of Thailand is one of the most large islands in the kingdom. More than just Phuket, Koh Chang and Samui. But if many locals live in the first three, crowds of tourists come, then there is no crowds at all on Koh Kood. There are only 2,000 locals there, and even fewer tourists. So the result is a very intimate atmosphere and a secluded atmosphere.

On Koh Kood there is no ring road around the island, there is only a concrete road connecting northern part islands from the southern and radially departing from it roads of varying degrees of quality. The island is not so mountainous, the maximum height of the mountains here is only 315 meters, so there are no such steep serpentines as on Ko Chang, for example. Most of the island is covered with forest, it is very green here, which is good.

Due to the remoteness of the island from the mainland and Chang, Ko Kood is not particularly popular with tourists, it is quite emotional and relaxed here. There are practically no Thais who are tired of the crowds of farangs and Chinese, so if you are nostalgic for Tai before his surge in popularity, this is the place for you. The island hasn't deteriorated yet.

If you are already in Thailand, then the situation is much easier and cheaper. How to get to Ko Kood from different points in Tai?

From Pattaya

The easiest method now is to buy a transfer from a hotel in Pattaya to Koh Where through an online service at a price of 850 baht.

There is also an option to take a full transfer from a hotel in Pattaya to a hotel on Koh Kudev travel agencies. Its price is 900 baht. I recommend to immediately buy a return transfer in Pattaya, as it will be more expensive on Koh Kood.

You can get there with a change in Trat, read how to do this.

From Bangkok

The easiest way is to take a combo ticket (minibus to the pier, speedboat to Koh Where, transfer to the hotel) for 850 baht through the online service at a price of 850 baht.

If you take everything separately, then you can save 100-150 baht. First you need to get to Trat, how to do it, read in my article about. And then - below.

From Trat

Boats leave from Laem Sok Pier every day to Koh Kood. More precisely, one smaller and faster boat and one slower and larger, for some reason they call it Ferry - a ferry, although in fact it is also a boat.

The Koh Kood Princess ferry departs from Laem Sok Pier daily at 12:30. And back from the island at 10:00. But Ko Kude arrives from Ao Salad pier and departs from Hin Dam Pier. Be careful: these piers are in different parts islands. Ferry price 350 baht. Children from 6 to 9 years old buy a ticket for 50%, and under 6 travel for free. The price includes a transfer from your hotel in Trat to Laem Sok pier. But the transfer from Ao Salad to your hotel on Koh Kood is not included in the price and you need to negotiate with the hotels to pick you up from the pier. Carriage of a motorbike is possible and costs the same as an adult ticket. They don't ask for any documents for a motorbike. The ferry workers will load and unload it themselves. Such a boat sails for 1.5-2 hours.

Koh Kood Express also departs from Laem Sok Pier daily at 12:30 and returns at 10:00 from Hin Dam Pier on Koh Kood. Ferry price 350 baht. Children under 4 years old travel for free. The price includes a transfer from your hotel in Trat to Laem Sok pier. On the island, transfer to the hotel is not included in the price. You can also take a motorbike on this boat at the ticket price.

The Koh Kood Speedboat departs Laem Sok daily at 10am and returns from the island at 1pm. From arrives and departs from the Hin Dam pier on Koh Kood, which is more convenient, since this pier is closer to the center of the island. The ticket price is 600 baht. Children from 5 to 10 years old with a 50% discount, under 5 years old - free. The price includes transfer from the hotel in Trat to the hotel in Koh Kood. Such a boat sails for 1 hour. Doesn't carry motorbikes.

Tickets for these boats can be bought at offices near the pier, or at travel agencies in the city - the price is the same.

From Koh Chang Island

A small boat runs between the islands daily, departing from Kai Bae Pier in Chang at 9 am and from Bang Bao Pier in Kuda at 11 am. The fare is 900 baht.

On the same boat, it is possible to get from Ko Kuda to Ko Wai for 700 baht and to Ko Mak for 400.

Transport within the island

There are no taxis and motorcycle taxis on the island as such. Everyone travels on their own motorbikes, which are rented here for 350 baht per day. What is expensive. If you are traveling for a long time, it is cheaper to rent in Trat, for less than 150 baht per day, and transport this bike by ferry. The cheapest gasoline in central village, at a gas station. But all over the island it is sold in bottles for 40 baht a liter. You can also rent a car with a driver at a price of 1200 baht per day.

Where to live

I have already written a detailed article on the topic. There are all kinds of accommodation options, from simple guesthouses for 200 baht to pretentious resorts for $ 2,000.

Where there is

In guesthouses, and even more so in resorts, food is expensive, so many farangs do not eat there, but go to cheap eateries, of which there are not so many on the island.

Edalny next to the stadium

In the central village, next to the stadium, there are some of the most popular food shops, where we most often ate. Most simple meals are priced at 40 baht. But there are also 50, 60, 80.

Edalnja next to Ko Kood Ice-Cream

Rak restourant

Located on the way to Khlong Chao waterfall, close to the Baan Sangjun guesthouse with rooms for 6,000 baht per month. It is a little more expensive here and most of the dishes cost 60 baht, but there are also 40 baht.

Shops and fruits

There are several small supermarkets along the main road on the island. Their prices are slightly higher than on the mainland. The assortment is not great, but in general there is everything. It is more profitable to buy water in a whole package, with a discount for small wholesale. Fruits on the island are expensive, even bananas. Along the road they are sold from shops, there are the cheapest prices.

Things to do on Koh Kood

Beaching

Koh Kood - beach place... Moreover, the beaches there are some of the best in Thailand. Of course, they are far from the Indonesian beaches on uninhabited islands, like, but for Tai these are kosher beaches - it's hard to find cooler in the kingdom.

Waterfalls

There are 3 waterfalls on the island. Alas, we were in the dry season and did not fully appreciate them. But the waterfalls are free, unlike those on Koh Chang, or Samui!

The most famous waterfall, the largest and deepest. Has an extensive bowl in which you can swim. In March, it looked like this.

Located in the north of the island, not far from where we lived - Koh Kood Garden House. I think it's great here in October-November - a lot of water. But in the dry season, only a thin trickle. The waterfall has several rapids, here is the largest one.

Klong Yai Kee has a very interesting location, you can go down a little and there will be beautiful stone creeks along which water should flow after the rainy season.

Or it is also called the secret waterfall, since it is not easy to find the way to it. This waterfall is in beautiful gorge and consists of several thresholds.

There is interesting stones with holes, apparently in the past the water so pierced, falling from somewhere above.

Big trees

Because most of the island is still covered with forest, in the depths there are still large trees. And even very large ones, such as a couple of 500-year-old giants Makka Tree and Big Chai Tree. They look something like this.

Not to say that I was very impressed, so many times I saw such trees in Sumatra, for example, in, but you can call in, especially since these trees are on the way to the Huang Nam Kaew waterfall

Trekking Klong Kang Kao - Khao Ruea Rop

This trail begins behind the Mata Guesthouse and goes up to rocks similar in shape to ships.

The trail first follows the mangroves.

But gradually he enters the forest. With ficus-stranglers ...

Since it was dry season, nothing interesting was found in the forest. Trail scheme.

The trail can also be reached by motorbike, turning off the main road of the island following the sign to Khao Ruea Rop near the Ngam Kho beach.

Fishing villages

There are two more on the island fishing villages- Ao Salad in the north of the island and Ao Yai in the south. The road to the latter is the most mountainous, uncrowded and there is one good viewpoint. The villages themselves are not as picturesque as the Indonesian ones, so I didn't take pictures. There are fish restaurants in the villages where you can taste fresh seafood.

Excursions

The island offers several snorkeling trips around the island. Find out the prices in travel agencies, or the main tourist office near the Klong Chao beach.

Internet

Wi-Fi is available in all expensive resorts, in many guesthouses and cafes. But slow. Fastest internet connection for desktop computers at the main tourist office. Naturally, it is paid, but I forgot how much it costs.

Washing

You can do your laundry by checking in at a few Laundry located along the road, such as the cheapest one in the grocery store next to Ice-Cream Restorant. 50 baht per kilogram.

Map

A free map of the island can be taken from the tourist island, it is quite detailed and reliable. In the meantime, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with my map of the island, where all the main points are marked.

Hello dear readers! What can you write about heaven? Have you ever been to the perfect place? I am now on such an ideal island, well, or almost. Yesterday arrived at Koh Kood.

At first I was skeptical about the trip here, but what I found here is simply beyond words. Free taxi from the ferry, luxurious bungalow for inexpensive next to one of the best beaches Koh Kood, an atmosphere of complete relaxation.

The beach is just perfect for jogging. A wide strip of the softest white sand, almost no one around, so I just write after a run. This is already like a tradition: first I run and swim, and then with an open mouth I watch the sunset, sitting in the water.

Koh Kood Island It differs from other islands in Thailand primarily in that the tourist business is not so developed here. There are no long streets with shops and heaps of rezotov.

Yes, there are hotels, bungalows and guest houses for every taste, but everything is somehow quiet and homely.

As I have already written many times, now it is better to book accommodation in Thailand in advance on ☜ using the link my reviews about this Asian search engine and answers to all questions about the agoda. It turns out cheaper and more convenient than if you search locally.

People on Koh Kuda some kind of soulful. Yes, food prices are high (compared to the rest of Thailand, not Minsk or Moscow, of course). By the way, Thai cuisine is a separate topic altogether.

Renting a scooter and gasoline on Koh Kood is also 2 times more expensive than on the mainland, but the beaches and nature make you forget about everything.

Yesterday I was buying pineapple for half an hour at the local "store". Whole fruit cost 50 baht, sliced 60 baht. So it was like a show of some kind. While the aunt was cutting pineapple, her son (a very sympathetic young man, by the way) put us chairs and several times urged us to sit down.

We sat on these very chairs and watched as locals periodically drive up to the store, take something strange, they don't pay money, they laugh, they pat our son on the head (and he is somewhere my age). Next to us were two Thai men of indeterminate age and also watched all this. Here's what people do in the evenings - sheer fun.

The island has a permanent population of 400 local residents, the rest of the tourists - about 100 people on the whole island, probably.

And on Koh Kood you need to walk carefully under the coconut trees, or it is better not to walk at all, otherwise the coconut may fall on your head. We have already encountered a similar phenomenon on - there, too, coconuts from palm trees often fell

First of all on new beach, Koh Kood, Thailand

Fishing village (well, how can it be without it). People are so positive all there - they greet, smile. Koh Kood, Thailand

Uninhabited beach - perfect place for snorkeling. Koh Kood, Thailand

Well, it's just ah

But on this beach in general it was possible to go crazy just from the transparency of the water and the absence of waves. There I socialized a little, getting to know an American and an Austrian, and then just swam back and forth for about an hour, until it started to rain. The landscapes are somewhat reminiscent, but Koh Kood is still less touristy.

It is definitely worth going to Koh Kood! And all because this island is still considered one of the most beautiful in Thailand. Why do you say bye? The answer is simple. The infrastructure on this island is still very poorly developed. The number of local residents is about two thousand souls and they live mainly on tourists. The island has virgin nature and almost wild beaches... Be careful as a coconut may fall on your head!

Isn't this a heavenly place? Do you think it's boring here? Perhaps, but only if you are used to visiting nightclubs and other entertainment establishments... By the way, there are no such nightclubs on Koh Kood. Of the attractions, on this island, there are only natural beauties - jungle, waterfalls, coconut trees, clean beaches, crabs and other amazing things that for our Everyday life, are a manifestation of the exotic. REST REPORTS:

Antonina

February holiday experience

I don't like winter because heavy clothing makes it difficult to get around town quickly. You are constantly freezing. You don't have time to drink coffee at work so as not to freeze. Therefore, I strive to leave for at least a week in the "warm lands". Basically, I don’t buy tickets to Egypt, what if one of the local residents steals me. I chose another destination: Thailand. Even forecasters convinced me. After looking at the weather forecast, I realized that it was warm in Thailand in February. I was not mistaken. Waiting for me in Thailand sunny weather... The air temperature was so comfortable that I did not have time to get tired of the heat. The thermometer displayed a temperature of 30 degrees. This is an auspicious holiday season. Because there is not much precipitation either. For 8 days of my weekend, the clouds were only once. But, even the rain would not spoil my mood, because when you are on the paradise island of Koh Kood, the level of endorphins goes off scale, you don’t pay attention to the vagaries of nature.

Youth rest

Thailand used to be an unpopular tourist destination. Because our people were frightened with stories about wildlife, dangerous animals and strict laws that are sure to await tourists in the Kingdom of Thailand. Now Thai resorts are considered the best. I believe that young people will enjoy their vacation in Thailand most of all. In Thai resorts, you will find discos, restaurants, night shows, entertainment and even extreme sports. Most of the newbie tourists will be surprised by the lady fights. These are the people of Thailand who earn so much on their beauty. Most often, men undergo beauty surgery in order to make good money quickly. And tourists are tired of drag shows. Therefore, there are a lot of such lady-fights on the streets of Thailand, they themselves easily make contact with foreigners.

What to take with you on vacation?

I do not advise you to take food and unnecessary items with you in Thailand, because there is strict customs control. This is a plus: you are not going to carry weights.

Where is the best place to stay?

There is no budget accommodation on Koh Kood. You won't find a good apartment for $ 50. I stayed at the Koh Kood Baach Resort. The rooms are luxurious with a jacuzzi and a large bed. The hotel area is clean and well-groomed, a lot of flowers, as in botanical garden... There are also other advantages: a closed area and a separate exit to a quiet bay.

Thailand offers entertainment that you will not find in other countries. I did not book an excursion to the desert jungle and I do not force you. I recommend getting therapy for your nerves and riding elephants. The service costs $ 30. An hour ride on an elephant, you can even swim in the water with an animal.

The capital of Thailand has many establishments serving food national cuisine... You can try scorpions with sauce and various fried cockroaches. But there is also Russian cuisine. When I arrived in Pattaya, I found Uncle Vanya's restaurant there. Yes, okroshka and potatoes with garlic are served there. Thai food may not be pleasant, but I recommend trying Tom Yam. This is a very spicy soup. There are many restaurants, so as not to be mistaken with the choice of dishes, order seafood (you will definitely like it).

Cons of resting on Koh Kood

Cons: mosquitoes and various insects that revive at night. Creams and ointments may not work. But you will feel protected if you get vaccinated before you travel.

Helpful information?

In the Gulf of Thailand, Thailand is a heavenly place for comfortable rest- Koh Kood island. It is located in the very south-west of the country in close proximity to the border with Cambodia. This island is considered the fourth largest in Thailand and is part of the largest archipelago Ko Chang. The territory is home to only 2,000 inhabitants, the rest of the island is covered with virgin tropical nature and white beaches.

First of all, those tourists who want to take a break from the bustle of the city and enjoy a relaxing beach holiday on the shores of the warm Gulf of Thailand should go to the island. Paradise Island cannot boast of its nightlife entertainment facilities, there are only a few of them in the busiest areas and only in the high tourist season.

Paradise Island is also worth considering for those who like active pastime. Here you can do such types of recreation and entertainment as:

  • trekking walks;
  • visiting waterfalls;
  • passing through the tropical jungle;
  • diving and snorkeling;
  • sea fishing;
  • sailing on a yacht or kayak;
  • underwater adventures;
  • acquaintance with local flora and fauna.

Koh Kood is sure to please and sink into the soul of connoisseurs of pristine nature, but it will upset those tourists who like to spend time in nightclubs, bars and shopping centers. The infrastructure in this regard on the island is completely undeveloped, but the government of the state plans to create all this in the near future. On the one hand, it will attract more more tourists and for a longer stay, but on the other hand, will negatively affect the nature and make the island a typical Thai resort.

A visit to Koh Kood Island is included in sightseeing tour in Thailand, here tourists are scheduled to visit the white beaches and beautiful jungle. In the near future, Koh Kood may lose the title of paradise island Thailand, since the tourism sector of the economy has been very actively developing on its territory in recent years. A lot of hotels are being built, and numerous cafes and entertainment are growing on the beach strip.

Popular beaches

All the popular and comfortable beaches of the island are located in its western and southern parts, including the following:

  • KhlongChao is considered the most popular and inhabited beach on the island, the length and width of which exceeds 0.5 kilometers. It hosts volleyball, football and basketball games on white sand.
  • LaemBangBao surrounded on four sides by a beautiful landscape of dense rainforest, which is rich in interesting vegetation. The coastline is completely covered with white sand, and entry into the sea is very smooth and smooth.
  • AoPrao considered the most beautiful beach, in the middle of which there are several dozen palms. They create a natural barrier from the scorching sun, and the beach is also famous for its beautiful sunsets.
  • AoYaiKoet located near the previous beach in close proximity to the village of Klong Mat. It is always sparsely populated, since there are no hotels near it and it occupies a very small area on the island of Koh Kood.

Hotels

By the standards of Thailand, the daily cost of living in hotels is very high due to their great popularity among tourists. It is almost impossible to find economy class housing here, the cost of which will be less than 1,000 baht per day.

Accommodation in a small room without air conditioning and with a shared bathroom will cost 1000 baht, the hotel will be located far from the center of the island and the beaches. In the high season, it is better to book hotels on the island in advance, then for 1200-1500 baht you can find an acceptable accommodation option. For this price, you can order a separate bungalow with all the amenities, which, in fact, will cost 2 times more on the same day. I recommend booking a hotel on the Hotelluk website.

Among the popular hotels that have 4-5 stars, the following can be noted:

  1. Soneva Kiri is considered the coolest hotel in Koh Kood. It offers accommodation in huge individual luxury villas. On site you will find a large outdoor pool as well as a private terrace overlooking the sea. The five-star hotel has everything for a complete relaxing holiday, including many hammocks and sun loungers, free internet throughout the territory, gym, spa treatments, several bars and restaurants.
  2. The High Season Resort positions itself as a five-star hotel and spa complex. It is located on the first coastline islands in the middle of Klong Chao beach. There are several large swimming pools, a huge spa center, free internet and a gym at the guests' service. The hotel's restaurants serve dishes of two world cuisines - Thai and European.
  3. To The Sea The Resort Koh Kood is a 4-star hotel that is in no way inferior to the previous ones in terms of comfortable accommodation, service and service. The cost of living is already significantly lower than in five-star accommodation options. The hotel is located in the busiest part of the resort, close to the central beach and the main streets of the island. The hotel has several outdoor pools and a private area on the beach of Koh Kood.

Transport

Transport infrastructure on the Koh Kood island is almost completely absent, there is no public transport and even a taxi. Only locals act as the main carriers for tourists, who can offer you a ride on your own motorbike. For your own pleasure, you can only move to Koh Kuda on a rented vehicle - a motorbike, bicycle or car.

Rental offices are mainly located in large hotels on the island, which offer tourists to rent a bicycle, motorbike, motorcycle or car. The most expensive thing is to rent a car, the cost per day will be at least 1,500 baht. Renting a motorbike will cost 300 baht per day and this is the best option, since it is very difficult and dangerous to move around the island by bike under the scorching sun.

The mountain bike option is convenient for those who are going to conquer the local jungle and do not want to spend money on gasoline.

There is only one petrol station on the island and it is located near the central pier of Chlon Hin Dam. If you cannot get gasoline there, you can buy it in stores. It is sold in cans, but its cost is several times higher than at a gas station.

How to get there?

The easiest way to get to Koh Kood is as part of an excursion, which usually lasts two days and two nights. The cost of such excursions starts from 5,000 baht, but the price includes a transfer in both directions, partial meals and full payment of hotel accommodation on the island. You can order an excursion from Pattaya at.

There are several options to independently get to Koh Where from different parts of Thailand:

  1. From Bangkok can be reached by plane, which makes three flights a day from Suvurnabhumi Airport to the city of Trat on the mainland of Thailand, located near Koh Kuda. The cost of a ticket for local airlines is quite high, since the flight is very popular - from 3,000 baht one way per hour flight. Next, you need to get from the city of Trust to the island by high-speed boat.
  2. From Bangkok and Pattaya the most acceptable option is a bus that departs from the capital of Thailand from the northern and eastern bus stations, as well as from terminals near Suvarnabhumi airport... From Pattaya every day they run tourist buses from the central Northern Bus Station resort. Travel time by minibus from Bangkok is about 5 hours, and the fare starts from 200 baht, depending on the selected cabin class.
  3. Upon arrival in the city of Trat, you need to get to Laem Sok pier, from which high-speed boats leave 2 times every day to Koh Kud. Travel time takes no more than two hours; you can leave the city on the mainland at 9 am and noon. Back boats leave from the island at 10 am and noon. On Koh Kuda, a boat drops off tourists at the hotel or place they need, the price includes a transfer to the place of arrival. The price for one trip is 600 baht.
  4. WITH Koh Chang archipelago you can only get to the island by sea. There are high-speed boats on the route every day. The cost of one trip is quite high and amounts to 900 baht per person. From Koh Chang, high-speed boats leave at 9 am and return at 11 am. Travel time takes no more than one and a half hours, and the ticket price includes a transfer from the place of departure in the archipelago to the desired hotel on the island.

Koh Kood island on the map

On this map you can see the exact location of Koh Kood Island in Thailand.

Although the resort is positioned as an excursion place in Thailand, it is perfect for lovers of a quiet, calm and measured rest. The infrastructure is very poorly developed, but this attracts even more tourists here. On the this moment the island is not cluttered with roads, hotels, shopping centers and places for entertainment.

Koh Kood (Thailand) is an island with virgin exotic nature, located far from the noisy tourist centers. This is the right place for a quiet contemplative relaxation. On this island you can find solitude and tranquility, clear warm sea and lush tropical vegetation, maximum relaxation and romance.

General information

Koh Kood Island (Thailand) is located in the eastern part of the Gulf of Thailand, near the border of Thailand and Cambodia. It is the fourth largest island in Thailand. Koh Kood has a low population density, no more than 2 thousand people live here in six small villages. The main occupation of the inhabitants of the island is serving tourists, fishing, growing coconut trees and rubber trees. The national composition is dominated by Thais and Cambodians, local residents profess Buddhism.

Measuring 22x8 km², Koh Kood is surrounded by lush tropical greenery and is considered to be the most beautiful of the islands in Thailand. Its settlement began only at the beginning of the twentieth century, but how tourist centre it began to develop quite recently, so exotic nature has been preserved here in all its pristine beauty.

Unlike other resorts in Thailand, on Koh Kood, the tourist infrastructure is just developing, there is practically no entertainment here - water parks, zoos, noisy discos and a violent nightlife... Fans of parties and fun are unlikely to like it here. People come here to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city in solitude among exotic virgin nature.

In addition to a beach holiday, here you can visit the most beautiful waterfalls, visit Buddhist temple, get acquainted with the life of the local population in a fishing village on stilts, go on an excursion to rubber and coconut plantations. It is also one of the best diving and snorkeling spots in Thailand. Photos taken on Koh Kund will capture the most beautiful moments of your life.

Tourist infrastructure

Tourists go to Thailand to the Koh Kood island not for the benefits of civilization, but for peace and relaxation surrounded by nature. Perfect relaxation here - live in a bungalow overlooking the sea, and spend time enjoying the privacy and beauty of the surrounding area. But the basic needs of life still need to be satisfied, and Ko Kuda has everything you need for this.

All equipped beaches have cafes owned by coastal hotels... The fewer there are, the higher their prices. Therefore, it is more profitable to eat not in the restaurant of your hotel, but to go to lunches and dinners in Klong Chao. The largest number of cafes, bars, restaurants is concentrated here, and you can easily find something that suits both the price and quality. On average, a lunch for two with drinks at a seaside cafe costs $ 10-15.

Those looking to save money can eat at the local taverns that can be found in the Klong Chao village in the stadium area. Lunch for one person here will cost only $ 2-3. There are always fresh products, the menu includes soups, fried pork and chicken, fish and seafood, salads and rice, local desserts. If you don't share Thais' love of fiery spices, ask to cook no spicy.

Along the main road of Koh Kuda, which leads through the island from north to south, there are small shops and stalls where you can buy local fruits inexpensively.
